EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana senior centerfielder Khi Holiday singled in the game-winner in the ninth to cap a comeback victory over Bellarmine University, 10-9, Wednesday evening at the USI Baseball Field. USI is 19-22 overall, while Bellarmine is 10-31.
Trailing 9-6 going into the bottom of the ninth, junior first baseman Patrick McLellan singled to lead off the rally before singles by junior catcher Charlie Marisca and sophomore rightfielder Cameron Boyd to load the bases. Junior leftfielder Hunter Miller drew an RBI walk to get the scoring going to make the score, 9-7.
Junior pinch hitter Kannon Coakley drove in senior pinch runner BJ Banyon to make the score, 9-8, while junior pinch hitter Micajah Wall tied the game, 9-9, with a sacrifice fly and set the stage for Holiday.
Holiday sent a high hopper over the pitcher and beat the throw as Miller scored the game-winning run for USI’s 10-9 victory.
The four-run rally in the ninth was the fourth time USI had to battle back to take the lead in the game.
Trailing 2-0 in the second, Boyd hit the first of his two home runs in the contest to knot the game at 2-2. He would follow with a three-run blast in the fifth to give USI the lead 5-4. The home runs were Boyd’s third and fourth of the season.
Boyd finished the game with a team-best four-for-five at the plate with three runs scored and five RBIs. The four hits, two home runs, and five RBIs were career-highs for Boyd.
Bellarmine scored two in the seventh and three in the eighth to lead, 9-6, and set the stage for USI in the ninth.
On the mound, senior right-hander Hiroyuki Yamada picked up his first win of the season in relief. Yamada threw one inning, allowing a walk and striking out one.
USI freshman right-hander Colin Wolfe started and received a no-decision. The freshman allowed two unearned runs on a hit and three walks over three innings of work.

Kenton Hargis Announces Departure as UE Senior Director of Admission
EVANSVILLE, IND. Kenton Hargis has announced his departure from the University of Evansville (UE), effective in August. Hargis, a longtime leader in the Office of Admission and a fixture around UE’s campus, has played a pivotal role in recruiting students and building UE’s reputation over more than a decade. His decision comes as he prepares to dedicate more time to his family and stay home with his two young children.
“Serving the University of Evansville has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” Hargis said. “The students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni I’ve met along the way have made this community an incredibly special part of my life. Most of all, I’ve been deeply fortunate to work alongside an admission team whose passion, heart, and unwavering belief in our mission have inspired me every single day. While it’s very difficult to step away from a place and a team I love, I know this is the right decision for my family. I’ll always promote the caring culture for which UE is known-and I’ll forever be a proud Ace.”
A 2006 graduate of UE, Hargis returned to his alma mater in 2010 and quickly became known for his energy, creativity, and deep commitment to the University’s mission. He has led strategic enrollment management efforts, launched innovative initiatives, provided vision throughout the ups and downs of many recruiting cycles, and built lasting relationships across campus and the community. Under his leadership, UE has attracted countless bright and talented students whose lives have been changed and who are going on to make a difference in the world.
Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing Dr. Jill Griffin expressed her gratitude for Hargis’s contributions.
“We’ve all become better from working with Kenton-not only because of his leadership, but because of who he is. He brings out the best in people, inspires action, and never hesitates to lead the charge, even when the hill is steep,” Griffin said. “Kenton’s decision to focus on his family reflects the same values that have defined his leadership at UE-compassion, dedication, and a deep sense of responsibility. While we will miss him tremendously, we know he will embrace this next role with the same heart and purpose that made him such an exceptional colleague and leader at UE.”
Griffin also announced that Kim McDonald, currently Director of Enrollment Marketing and Operations, will continue her current work but also take on tactical leadership of the team as the Director of Admission. A seasoned admission leader, McDonald has been a cornerstone of the recruitment team and provided strong leadership during parental leaves and other transitions.
“Kenton’s leadership has defined what it means to serve with purpose, and his work has directly contributed to UE’s remarkable enrollment growth over the past four years,” Griffin added. “With Kim’s steady leadership and a strong team in place, we are well-positioned for a smooth transition and an exciting future.”
A national search is underway to identify an Assistant Vice President for Admission who will have responsibility for both undergraduate and graduate admission. This will help to enhance recruitment efforts across all areas of the university and ensure a strategic approach to enrollment growth.
City of Evansville to Host Summer Resource Fair for Youth and Teens
Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry invites students and families to attend the city’s second annual Summer Resource Fair, a free event designed to connect local youth with enriching opportunities for the summer season. The event will take place Sunday, April 27, 2025, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Pagoda, 401 SE Riverside Dr.
The fair will showcase summer camps, educational and enrichment programs, volunteer opportunities, and summer job prospects available for children and teens across the city. The event aims to keep Evansville’s youth engaged, inspired, and supported throughout the summer months.
“We know how powerful the summer months can be in shaping a child’s future,” said Mayor Stephanie Terry.“Whether it’s through a summer job, an arts program, or a day camp, these experiences help build confidence, foster creativity, and keep our young people connected to their community. This fair is all about giving families easy access to those opportunities.”
Representatives from local youth-serving organizations will be on-site to provide information and answer questions about their summer programs. Attendees can explore options in academics, the arts, athletics, employment, and more—all in one place.
The Summer Activities Fair supports Mayor Terry’s commitment to Youth Development, a key pillar of her administration’s strategic priorities, by ensuring that every young person in Evansville has access to programs that help them learn, grow, and thrive.
The event is open to the public, and no registration is required.
Sen. Becker welcomes local students to Statehouse
STATEHOUSE (April. 21, 2025) – State Sen. Vaneta Becker (R-Evansville) welcomed the following local students to the Statehouse who served as Senate pages in March and April.

Students in grades six through 12 participate in the page program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. Groups serve on Wednesdays.
