BRAUN: SEC. MAYORKAS SHOULD BE IMPEACHED

0

WASHINGTON —Today, U.S. Senator Mike Braun called on Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Mayorkas to resign or be impeached, slamming the Biden administration’s dereliction of duty of the southern border crisis.

There have been 2 million illegal immigrants stopped at the border and 600,000 “gotaways” this year. One-hundred sixty nine people on the terrorist watchlist were stopped by Border Patrol, and Secretary Mayorkas could not say how many got through, or if Hamas terrorists were in the country.

Last week Sen. Braun joined a group of Republican senators in a letter to President Biden expressing concern over the 169 people on the terror watchlist stopped at the border and calling on Biden to take action to reinstate the border policies of the Trump administration. The White House has not responded.

Sec. Mayorkas has failed to do his job

“He has been purposely detached from this because it’s coming from the White House and it started immediately after Biden got elected. By the way, I think he ought to resign immediately or be impeached. I mean that is dereliction of the worst kind and this has been happening for months.

Braun at the Border

“I and about 16 or 17 other senators were there right after Biden got elected and we had just had record low from the Trump administration. You didn’t even know what a ‘gotaway’ was. Now that’s up to 600,000 a year and these are the people that fly into Mexico and pay the big fees to the cartels, over 100 nationalities and the carnage that was just described along with the chaos, that’s becoming a real issue and I think that will be litigated in 24. The good news is our own conference in the Senate is elevating that to maybe the most important issue and it ought to be.

SEYMOUR, Ind., November 9, 2023 – Vincennes University has officially opened its new cutting-edge industrial maintenance training lab at the Jackson County Learning Center in partnership with the Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation, Jackson County Education Coalition, and Seymour-Jackson County. The facility aims to address the existing demand for highly-trained technicians and nurture a pipeline of talent ready to step into these positions.

In today’s rapidly evolving industries, VU plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the demands of local workforces and their need for skilled technicians. The demand for highly skilled technicians in and around Jackson County has never been more apparent.

According to Jackson County Industrial Development Corporation Executive Director Jim Plump, “With the large concentration of industry in Seymour-Jackson County and the surrounding area, the need for maintenance training was constantly mentioned as a need during our conversations with companies. As we met to try and figure out how we could pull something like this together, the reputation of Vincennes University’s training programs made it an easy call to see if they could be our partner to offer this training. We are extremely excited about this partnership to help expand our workforce development efforts.”

VU collaborates with industry partners to identify specific workforce demands and tailors its training to match those needs. By offering specialized training, the University is equipping individuals with the skills and expertise required for them to excel in their field.

On Thursday, Nov. 9, VU held a ribbon-cutting of its new 1,600-square-foot training lab at the Jackson County Learning Center in Seymour. VU President Dr. Chuck Johnson was among the guest speakers.

VU will offer four courses at the site in basic electrical, basic mechanical, intermediate electrical, and intermediate mechanical in a state-of-the-art training lab filled with high-quality equipment including AC/DC Electrical Systems, Electric Motor Control with Troubleshooting, Electronic sensors, Mechanical Drives chains, belts and gears, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Motors with Troubleshooting, bearings and lubricants, Laser Shaft Alignment, Vibration Analysis and Power & Control Electronics.

“In close collaboration with our valued industry partners, Vincennes University is committed to cultivating talent, arming individuals with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to excel in the industrial maintenance trade,” VU Vice President of Workforce Development and Community Services David Tucker said. “This new facility signifies VU’s dedication to not only addressing the current workforce shortage but also shaping the future by preparing individuals to seamlessly step into these vital roles, strengthening the economic growth of Jackson County and the state of Indiana.”

The new lab is supported by READI funding.

Aces improve to 2-0 for first time since 2019

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Fifteen University of Evansville men’s basketball players saw floor time and made their way into the scorebook as the Purple Aces tied the program Ford Center scoring record in a 116-46 win over UHSP on Thursday evening.

UE improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2019 with the victory.  Six players reached double figures with the team doing an admirable job of spreading the ball around.  Making his collegiate debut, Braylon Jackson led the squad with 14 points.  Yacine Toumi totaled 13 while Chuck Bailey III added 12.  Sekou Kalle and Ben Humrichous tallied 11 apiece and Tanner Cuff scored 10.

With a total of 65 rebounds, UE put forth its best-ever effort at the Ford Center, breaking the previous mark of 58 caroms against Mississippi Valley State in 2015.  It marked the first time the Purple Aces had 60+ boards since totaling 61 versus SIU Edwardsville in 2008.  Kalle had a game-high 9 rebounds.

“Going into this game, we talked about our discipline, emotion and maturity,” UE head coach David Ragland said.  “We have worked to get better every day in every category.  Those things are important; I was proud of our focus, attention to detail and preparation.”

In the second half, Evansville’s walk-ons received added playing time and Ragland was proud of the effort from those guys.

“They work extremely hard and show up every single day in practice and do their job.  We love having them as part of the program.  Getting them into the game and showcasing what they have been working on is exciting.”

Gage Bobe and Cam Haffner knocked down early 3-pointerss to help the team score the first 12 points of the game.  The Aces connected on five of their opening eight attempts while the Eutectics were 0-for-6 to begin the game before hitting their seventh attempt.

Braylon Jackson made his first appearance in an Aces uniform and quickly found the scoreboard as he completed the first half with eight points.  His first collegiate basket gave UE a 24-6 lead before Cam Haffner hit a layup to make it a 20-point game with 12:05 remaining in the period.

Evansville would push the lead to as many as 33 in the opening period before taking a 61-29 lead into the halftime break.  Ben Humrichous led the way with nine points as all 10 players to see the floor in the half found their way into the scorebook.  UE’s first-half tally was the first time the program recorded 60 points in a half since posting 62 against Earlham on Nov. 15, 2014.

Things continued to go Evansville’s way in the second half as the team reached triple digits for the first time since Nov. 22, 2021 when the team scored 104 against Rice.  It was the first time the Aces reached the century mark at the Ford Center since dropping 101 on Miami Ohio on Dec. 7, 2019.

Multiple players made their first appearances this season in the latter stanza as Tyler Myers, Cameron Gehlhausen, Dakota Candler, Michael Day and Weston Aigner all saw extended playing time.  Evansville pulled away to finish the night with a 116-46 victory.

Jas Suvalija and Brady Bowers led the Eutectics with 17 points each.

For the first time this season, the Aces take to the road when they head to Cape Girardeau on Wednesday to face Southeast Missouri State.
