The Purple Aces head down to Louisville for the second week in a row

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After a small group of runners competed in Louisville last week, the entire University of Evansville track and field team is in town on Friday.

The Purple Aces head back to the Norton Healthcare and Sports Learning Center with their full squad for the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic hosted by the Knights. After setting a new program record, a podium finish, and three personal bests at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by Louisville, UE hopes to have another strong weekend in the Ville.

Evansville’s lone new program record last week came in the men’s 400-meter as Cedrik Flipo (Beloeil, Quebec, Canada) ran in 49.11 seconds to break the previous record set in 1977 by Jeff Korb. Freshman Sonja Inzinger (Mautern an der Donau, Austria) had a podium finish in her first collegiate 5000-meter race with a time of 17:42.43 for third place. And personal bests were set by Rafael Rodriguez (Segovia, Spain) in the mile race, Samuel Lea (Worchester, England) in the 5K race, and Nayla Martin (Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec, Canada) in the women’s mile race.

At the PNC Bank Bellarmine Classic, the Aces will run against 24 other NCAA teams along with multiple running clubs. Other Missouri Valley Conference teams in Louisville on Friday include Belmont, Murray State, and Southern Illinois. UE has raced against over half of the teams participating in Friday’s meet including Western Kentucky, Vincennes, Southern Indiana, Miami (OH), Marshall, Louisville, Eastern Kentucky, Bellarmine, Lipscomb, and Jacksonville State.

Friday’s meet begins with field events and the 60-meter dash at 9 a.m. Running events for the Bellarmine Classic then pick up

Attorney General Todd Rokita opens doors for neglected Hoosier tenants

0

Attorney General Todd Rokita and Homeowner Protection team announced a settlement this week with the owners of Willow Brook Gardens Apartments, Wellington Apartments, and BriergateApartments in Indianapolis after their poor treatment of renters.

Todd Rokita’s team jumped on this issue when it was initially reported in order to improve the rights and living conditions of the tenants.

“Our mission is to protect the rights of all people involved in the housing market, including tenants, homeowners, and aspiring homeowners, by investigating deceptive acts involving mortgage lending violations,” Attorney General Rokita said. “We strive to ensure equal access to housing opportunities for regular, everyday Hoosiers. I’m very proud of my team for the good results they continue to achieve.”

The owners of the apartment complexes agreed to the following:

  • A payment of $70,000 in rent credits to current tenant accounts based on a review of health department notices, rental account discrepancies, consumer complaints, and related maintenance requests. Eligible tenants at Willow Brook, Wellington, and Briergate will be separately notified by mail of their eligibility and 101 eligible tenant accounts will be automatically credited in amounts ranging between $250 – $2,000 within thirty days of entry of the agreement.

  • A total of $20,000 in additional restitution for complainants will be allocated by the Attorney General’s Office following a review of consumer complaints and the alleged harm. Complainants who are eligible for additional restitution will be directly notified by mail of their eligibility.

  • The dismissal and expungement of over 150 prior eviction proceedings conducted in Warren and Washington Township Small Claims Courts. Prior tenants of Willow Brook, Wellington, or Briergate do not need to act in order to be eligible for this relief. Cases impacted are listed in Appendix A to the Assurance of Voluntary Compliance.

  • A two-year compliance monitoring period in which the Unit will receive ongoing reports related to maintenance and open health department cases.

Litigation against the remaining defendants remains pending. If impacted consumers have questions about the current settlement, they can contact Homeowner Protection Unit at HPU@atg.in.gov.

“We work closely with law enforcement agencies at all levels to ensure justice is served and homeowners and tenants are protected,” Attorney General Rokita said. “I encourage Hoosiers to contact our office about any suspected scams or scam attempts.”

THUNDERBOLTS COME UP SHORT IN 4-3 LOSS AT QUAD CITY

Moline, Ill.:  In a wild back-and-forth game that saw the lead change hands four separate times, the Storm held the final lead as the Thunderbolts were unable to come back in the third period in front of a packed house on Thursday morning in Quad City, falling by a 4-3 final score.   The Thunderbolts’ next home game will be on Friday, February 2nd against the Knoxville Ice Bears, puck drop at 7:00pm CT.

After an early Quad City penalty shot was stopped by Ty Taylor in the opening minutes, the Thunderbolts grabbed the first lead of the day, as Brady Lynn scored from Vadim Vasjonkin and Nick Prestia at the 4:38 mark.  The Storm responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead, with Nicola Levesque scoring at 7:33 and Logan Nelson at 11:16.  On a late power play, Grayson Valente tied the game back up for Evansville at 17:32, assisted by Vasjonkin and Lynn, as the Thunderbolts and Storm went into the first intermission tied at 2-2.  Benjamin Lindberg gave Evansville a 3-2 lead by scoring 5:10 into the second period unassisted, however the Storm responded with a pair of goals once again, as Tommy Tsicos tied the game at 16:07 and Michael Moran put Quad City ahead 4-3 at 19:29.  The third period saw no goals or penalties, and the Thunderbolts were unable to find the tying goal despite one last effort with Taylor pulled.

Lynn finished with one goal and one assist, Valente and Lindberg scored one goal each, and Vasjonkin tallied a pair of assists.  In goal, Taylor finished with 29 saves on 33 shots faced.  The Thunderbolts and Storm meet again on Wednesday, February 14th at Ford Center.

Eight years later, he prepared his first solo act – juggling on a free standing ladder. After the public debut of this feat, Gregory became a member of the renowned Moscow Circus at the age of 17. “Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is a show unlike any other,” said Kyle Rupert, Executive Director of Jasper Community Arts. “It’s a perfect outing for families, animal lovers, and anyone looking for a fun-filled afternoon of entertainment.” Audiences can expect to be dazzled by a variety of acts, from the antics of talented dogs jumping through hoops to the graceful movements of trained cats performing tricks.
