IS IT TRUE that nearly every comment, email, or call that the City County Observer has received regarding the $1 Million+ tab to demolish Roberts Stadium has expressed a feeling of being mislead?…that most of those comments believe that the inaccurate information was not only misleading but that it was intentionally misleading on the part of the last two administrations for the purpose of softening the message of the costs associated with Roberts demolition?…that high ranking elected officials have also struck a shocked, amazed, and outraged positions with respect to this obvious act of either complete incompetence at best or flat out lying at worst?…it is widely thought that Option C of selling Roberts Stadium at auction as opposed to getting into a non-revenue producing project expected to eat up over $10 Million tax dollars to benefit dogs and skateboarders is the right thing to do?

IS IT TRUE that a bid to demolish Roberts Stadium in the amount of $200,000 has been seen by many people and has been represented to the people of Evansville and the Robert Stadium task force to represent the entire bill for this dirty deed?…there is a line item in the proposed “Culture and Recreation” 2013 budget in the amount of $500,000 under the heading “Roberts Park” that is now being put forward as the balance of what is needed to tear down Roberts?…that the $200,000 from the auction that devalued the stadium plus the 2012 budget amount of $200,000 earmarked for demolition plus this $500,000 does almost equal the lowest bid for demolition?…this is NOT and we repeat NOT the message sent out to the community during this process and that it looks like a city employee named SNEGAL successfully made the transition from the Weinzapfel Administration to the Winnecke Administration?…it is unfortunate that it seems that nothing in the business repertoire of the City of Evansville is ever done above board in a transparent and honest way?

IS IT TRUE that the Indiana State Fraternal Oder of Police recently made the following political endorsement?…they selected John R. Gregg for Governor, Greg Zoeller for Attorney General, Tony Bennett for Superintendent of Public Instruction, District 76-candidate Trent Van Haaften for State Representative, District 77 State Representative- Gail Riecken and no other local State Senators or State Representatives received endorsements from the State FOP?

IS IT TRUE last week that one of our bloggers alleges if the November VandyGov. vote passes the taxpayers can unexpected a big ticket renovation costs at the Civic Center?… the extremely reliable Civic Center Mole predicts that the political power that be shall be faced with a major and costly expense to renovate a larger Council Chambers to house a 15 member Common Council board? …that next week the Civic Center Mole tells us that next Thursday we shall be receiving information to prove that his information is indeed correct?…we have it on good authority that the cost to remodel the Council Chamber to accommodate the new 15 member group will eat up more than a full years identified savings by the consolidation committee?

National Rehabilitation Week September 17th – 21st

HealthSouth Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital will join
rehabilitation providers across the nation September 17-21 in celebration of National Rehabilitation Week.
HealthSouth will be recognizing its Patients, Nurses and Therapists and the significant role they play in the
rehabilitation process in our community. The week, the hospital will be bussing with various events and
activities at the hospital. The community is invited and encouraged to visit our hospital during this week for
food, fun, and entertainment!

Barbara Butler, CEO states, “National Rehabilitation Week provides a great opportunity for our hospital
to honor how much each of our patients have accomplished since their injury or illness. We invite the
community to join in our celebrations and to learn of the successes that rehab brings to patients at our hospital
every day.”

All Week
A display in the front lobby will be updated each day with a “Gold Medal” achievement.
These will include Joint Commission Certifications in Stroke and Brain Injury as well as a Top 10 Ranking
out of 100 HealthSouth Hospitals nationwide.

Monday, Sept. 17
A Patient Party/Open House will be held at 1:30pm – 3:00pm in our therapy gym with refreshments.

Tuesday, Sept. 18
A Patient Reunion Luncheon will be held from 11:30am-1:00pm for patients that have “graduated” from
HealthSouth in the past year. An RSVP is required at 812-437-6131. We will an “open microphone” to encourage
patients and therapists to share happy/sad/funny stories about their rehab and recovery.

Wednesday, Sept. 19
The highlight of the week is the Rehab Olympics!!
12 teams of 4 people from the community will compete for Gold medals and all will hope to avoid the last place
award of the Golden Bed Pan!
This event will take place at 12:30pm-1:30pm on the east lawn outside HealthSouth.
Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapy have planned activities for our teams that will create awareness of a
particular disability.

Thursday and Friday are dedicated to employees and celebrating within the hospital, however, tours and
an “open house” policy will be in place the entire week from 8:00am-4:00pm.

Heavy Trash Pick-Up Begins Next Monday, September 17
(EVANSVILLE, IN) – September 17, 2012 – The Evansville Water & Sewer Utility announces that Heavy Trash Pick-up will begin next Monday, September 17, and is scheduled to run through Friday, November 16. This semi-annual curbside service is available to City residents who pay for trash service with their water bill, including newly-annexed areas. Apartment complexes, mobile home communities and business/commercial customers are not eligible.
The collection schedule and area maps are available on the City’s GIS website – www.evansvillegis.com – by clicking “Heavy Trash Pickup Dates” on the right. To help keep crews on schedule and prevent heavy trash from sitting out on the curb longer than necessary, the number of days allocated for collection in each specific area has been determined based on the volume of heavy trash set out in the past and the number of days required to collect it.
Heavy trash must be placed in manageable, organized piles where normal weekly trash is collected before 6:00 a.m. on the first day collection is scheduled in an area.
Items that will be collected include:
ï‚· Carpet
o Must be rolled in sections no longer than 4 ft. and no wider than 2 ft. in diameter
ï‚· Furniture
o Sofas, tables, chairs, mattresses, box springs, etc.
ï‚· Appliances
o Stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, water heaters, etc.
o Limit two of each type of appliance per household

o Televisions, stereos, etc.
o NO computers or accessories
ï‚· Building materials/construction debris
o Must be in trash cans, boxes, etc. of such size and weight that they can be reasonably lifted by two average adults
o Containers must be strong enough that they do not break apart while being lifted even if they are wet
o Privacy fence sections must be cut in half or smaller manageable size
o NO concrete blocks or steel poles
Items that will NOT be collected include:
ï‚· Any trash that Allied Waste would pick up as part of its regular residential waste collection contract
ï‚· Automobile parts
ï‚· Batteries
ï‚· Tires
ï‚· Hazardous materials
ï‚· Computers or accessories
ï‚· Concrete blocks or steel poles
Heavy trash that does not meet these requirements will not be picked up. If a customer has put their heavy trash out according to the requirements above yet feels they were missed, they can call Allied Waste at 424-3345 within two days to report a possible missed pick-up.
Note that many items not collected through the City’s heavy trash pick-up can be properly disposed of through programs offered by the Solid Waste District, including Tire Amnesty Days, Electronics Recycling Days and Household Hazardous Waste Day (Tox Away Day). Additional information about these programs and upcoming program dates is available in the Solid Waste District’s section of the City Website (www.evansvillegov.org/Index.aspx?page=50) or by calling 436-7800.

Evansville to Automate Trash Service and Simplify Recycling, Lowering Rates

EVANSVILLE, IN – In January 2013, Evansville will begin implementing a new single-container, automated trash service, along with a separate container single-stream (commingled), automated recycling program, which will lower customers’ rates. The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility Board approved Allied Waste Services’ bid to provide residential refuge collection, disposal and recycling services for 10 years and awarded Allied Waste Services a five-year street sweeping contract. The city’s trash collection, recycling services and street sweeping is currently managed by Allied Waste Services and has been for a number of years.
The new automated trash services and single-stream recycling will be implemented as a phased-in approach for customers city-wide over a period of a few months, starting in January, when distribution of the container carts will begin.
For 2013, the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility Board is proposing a reduced residential waste services rate of $10.65 per month to cover trash, recycling and street sweeping. The current rate is $12.15 per month for trash and recycling services. The proposed rate is subject to City Council approval.
“The more modernized, automated and streamlined service will bring savings to residents,” said Ed Ziemer, deputy director of operations for the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility. “And, we hope the ease of single-stream recycling encourages residents to recycle more, reducing their trash,” he added.
Mayor Lloyd Winnecke added, “Another positive aspect of the enhanced recycling program is the jobs that will be created at Tri State Resource Recovery, which processes the City’s residential recyclables.” The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility anticipates eight to 10 new jobs will be created at Tri State

Resource Recovery, a nonprofit corporation owned and operated by the Evansville Urban Enterprise Association.
Under the new contract, waste services will include:
Residential trash service
 Standardization of residents’ trash containers using a 96-gallon cart (or smaller cart available upon request)
ï‚· One time per week pick-up service
 Automated curb and alley pickup – alley pick-up to be converted to curbside pick-up where conducive
ï‚· Special spring cleanup service (for four weeks in spring)
ï‚· Special unlimited bagged (biodegradable or paper bags) leaf service in fall
ï‚· Christmas tree pickup (with normal trash)
Recycling service
ï‚· 96- or 48-gallon cart with green color-coded lid for recycling
ï‚· Single-stream (commingled) recycling, making recycling easier
ï‚· Every other week automated service at the same location as trash pick-up
ï‚· Additional materials will be accepted for recycling starting in 2013.
Heavy trash services
ï‚· Spring and fall pickup; same as current program
Street sweeping will continue to cover the entire city with downtown business district sweeping once per week; sweeping of main thoroughfares and arteries into the city, including state highways, once a month; and sweeping of residential areas twice a year – once in the spring and once in the fall.

UE Named a Top 10 Midwest University by U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report has again named the University of Evansville one of the top 10 regional universities in the Midwest – and one of the region’s best values – in its annual Best Colleges rankings.

This year, UE held steady at ninth place in the “Best Regional Universities: Midwest” category, which ranks approximately 150 universities in 12 states. Last year, UE’s ninth-place position marked the highest finish since 1994.

The University also maintained its #3 position on the list of “Great Schools at Great Prices” in the Midwest, and was named an “A-Plus School for B Students” among Midwest regional universities. This unranked list features schools “where nonsuperstars have a decent shot at being accepted and thriving – where spirit and hard work could make all the difference in admissions offices,” according to U.S. News & World Report.

“While we know that numbers alone can’t capture the full University of Evansville experience, we’re pleased to maintain our stature as one of the Midwest’s top universities,” said UE President Thomas A. Kazee. “Particularly noteworthy is our ‘Great Schools at Great Prices’ recognition.
