The Mole #??

IS IT TRUE April 26, 2012

IS IT TRUE that some of the members of the Roberts Stadium Task Force are taking issue with the report that was released to the media yesterday on their behalf?…that the most visible of those is Jordan Baer who has kept a blog of ideas for consideration for Roberts Stadium for at least 3 years now?…that Mr. Baer who is a strong supporter of doing something productive with Roberts Stadium alleges that “page 13” or the page with the questionable statement that says any refurbishment project involving Roberts Stadium will cost more than building new will?…that it is not just Jordan Baer who has stated that the committee never gave its blessing to such a statement?…that three other members of the Roberts Stadium Task Force have in other ways without attaching their names to their statements all backed up Mr. Baer’s assertion?…that we encourage these people and any others on the task force to make it known if someone from the Winnecke Administration or the Task Force has dealt a card from the bottom of the deck and inserted a blatantly false statement into the study?..that at this time no member of the Task Force has come forward to state that “page 13” was indeed the consensus of the group?…that right now the votes of the Roberts Stadium Task Force are 4 – 0 that someone tampered with the report to give a worse than real impression?…that we call on the other 11 to state their case on the “official” reports credibility?

IS IT TRUE that Roberts Stadium has been suffering from willful neglect and intentional misrepresentation for at least 3 years now?…that every time that Dave Rector has given a tour of Roberts Stadium to the media that the same busted toilet, non-working water fountain, and leak in the roof are the highlights of the tour?…that the closet where chemicals are kept is also one of the main stops on the guided tour?…that pointing out the 4 or 5 worst things in any building or place is not a way to provide a picture of reality?…that if Dave Rector were a real tour guide on a cross country tour of America the narrated stops would be exclusively as follows?

Day One: New York City, stops in the South Bronx, the Bowery, and Hell’s Kitchen

Day Two: Michigan, stops in Detroit and a drive by of 8 Mile Road

Day Three: Chicago, only stop for a Southside walkabout

Day Four: Evansville, picnic lunch on Bee Slough and an evening stroll down Fares Avenue

Day Five: Cincinnati, a tour of “Over the Rhine”

Day Six: Los Angeles, forget Disneyland, you are going for a jog through Compton

Day Seven: San Diego, a blindfolded trip to Tijuana where you will be told you are in San Diego

IS IT TRUE that such a tour of the United States would not only give you a wrong impression but it would make you think that there is not one decent place in this country?…that by exclusively showing the absolute worst parts of anything always distorts the conclusions?…that Roberts Stadium has been the victim of neglect, abuse, and a negative campaign of propaganda for 3 years now?…that the latest allegations of releasing a false report are just the attempted last nail in the coffin for Roberts Stadium and show the depths to which some will go for a chance to tear it down?…that what is really disturbing is that not one person has come forward to refute what Jordan Baer has boldly stated?…that what is even more disturbing is that no one has expressed surprise that a false report may have been issued?…that the CCO really wishes that the people of Evansville could look at “official” press releases without the jaded view that manipulation and falsehood masked in SNEGALNESS are the law of the City?

IS IT TRUE that perhaps a Freedom of Information Act request will get to the real study?…that perhaps that will only produce doctored reports or refusals as well?…that we should be able to report the results of the FOIA’s served on the Office of the City Controller and the Office of the Mayor this week with respect to the Earthcare Energy VETTING?…that those two places cannot assert that they are not subject to FOIA laws as GAGE did?…that those offices are clearly subject to open door laws and that they will either have to give up the goods or come up with some nonsensical reason to delay?

UE Concrete Canoe Team Headed to Nationals

0

For the third time in the past four years, the University of Evansville’s Concrete Canoe team has qualified for the American Society of Civil Engineers National Concrete Canoe Competition, held this year at the University of Nevada, Reno from June 14-16.

UE’s team of civil engineering students earned a bid to nationals by placing second in the Concrete Canoe competition at the ASCE Great Lakes Student Conference, held April 19-21 at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Out of 14 Concrete Canoe teams, UE finished second behind the University of Wisconsin-Madison, narrowly edging out perennial powerhouse the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to advance to nationals.

Up to 24 teams in the United States and Canada qualify for the ASCE National Concrete Canoe Competition out of more than 200 civil engineering programs. Last year, UE hosted the competition and was the smallest school ever invited to do so.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our students’ continuing success in the Concrete Canoe competition,” said Mark Valenzuela, associate professor of civil engineering and the team’s faculty advisor. “This year’s team has logged over a thousand person hours designing and building their canoe, ‘Tempest,’ and it was a thrill to watch them outperform some of the nation’s top engineering schools this past weekend. They certainly earned the chance to showcase their work on a national level this summer.”

At the Great Lakes Student Conference, UE placed in all four Concrete Canoe main categories: races, oral presentation, final product, and design paper, with each category contributing equally to the overall final rankings.

UE placed third in the races and the oral presentation (in which teams had five minutes to discuss the design, analysis, construction, project management, and sustainability of their project), second in the final product (which considers adherence to the national design specifications, workmanship, aesthetics, and durability), and first in the design paper.

“UE’s first-place finish in the design paper category demonstrates that our civil engineering students can not only compete at the highest level in the athletic part of this competition, but more importantly, they can hold their own in the academic categories with the top public and private civil engineering programs in the nation,” said Brian Swenty, chair of the Department of Mechanical and Civil Engineering. “One of the hallmarks of the civil engineering program at UE is the emphasis on communication, writing, and presentation skills in addition to technical knowledge. ‘Civil engineers who write well’ may be an oxymoron at many universities, but not UE.”

UE Concrete Canoe team members are Christina Bernauer, Silas Bohlen, Abigail Browder, James Gabe, Luc Heidenreich, Josh Hood, Amanda Hopf, Jamie Johnson, Chris Kuester, John D. Look, Zach Neukam, Hannah Okray, Shannon Osiecki, Heather Passey, Ricardo Paredes Aronsohn, Matt Schutte, Alex Schwinghamer, Katelyn Spainhour (project manager), Ryan Sisk, Susan Smith, Trevor Weaver, and David Wichman. Mark Valenzuela is the team’s faculty advisor, and Immanuel Selvaraj and James Allen are the UE ASCE student chapter’s co-faculty advisors.

Special Olympics for Pre-School Students Planned April 28

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Culver Family Learning Center is hosting this year’s Special Olympics Young Athletes for pre-school students, Saturday, April 28, from 8:15-11:30 a.m. at the school. Preschool students from Easter Seals, the Rehabilitation Center, ARC Child Life Center and Culver will be participating.

“This is a dynamic event because it offers the opportunity for all children and families to come together,” said Erin Ramsey, director of EVSC’s Early Childhood Education program. “Our young athletes have been working diligently to prepare for the Special Olympics,”

Students will gather at Culver Family Learning Center’s main entrance, 1301 Judson Street. Everyone will go to the gym to get warmed up and then the children will rotate through five activity centers. All children will receive medals for participation and a healthy snack.

Special Olympics Young Athletes is a unique inclusive sport and play program for children with intellectual disabilities and their peers. The focus is on fun activities that are important to mental and physical growth. According to background information about the event, children ages 3 to 5 enjoy games and activities that develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Parents say their children in Young Athletes also develop better social skills. The confidence boost makes it easier for them to play and talk with other children on the playground and elsewhere.

IS IT TRUE April 25, 2012

The Mole #??

IS IT TRUE April 25, 2012

IS IT TRUE that the Chairman of the Vanderburgh County Republican Party, Wayne Parke was so disappointed that his longtime friend Governor Mitch Daniels endorsed Senator Richard Lugar over Treasurer Richard Mourdock that he dashed off an email to let him know about it?…that friends do that for friends and that we along with Mr. Parke respectfully disagree with Governor Daniels on this one?…that we are sure that Governor Daniels will support whichever Republican candidate emerges from the primary against the Democrat challenger in November?

IS IT TRUE that it was reported today by the Courier and Press that the Roberts Stadium task force assembled by Mayor Lloyd Winnecke has concluded that any of the uses proposed for Roberts Stadium will cost more to refurbish than they would to build new?…that when it comes to a indoor swimming facility that we can accept that conclusion?…that one of the proposed uses was to convert Roberts to an Events Center with a raised floor, only about 6,000 seats and some parking lot improvements?…that the estimate published for this solution was $6.5 Million?…that anyone who thinks that a 6,000 seat Events Center with parking for 3,000 cars can be built for $6.5 Million is living in the 1960’s or purely delusional?…that the only other conclusion for such a statement is that whomever said such a thing believes that Evansville is inhabited by such a cast of idiots that such a thing will be believed?…that while the EVSC has come under some fire recently for poor performance we as a people are really not stupid enough to believe that Roberts Stadium and a parking lot can be built for $6.5 Million?

IS IT TRUE that such statements are coming from the same source that did not have the good sense to know that $2 Million per ballfield was overpriced?…that it is a good thing they are not empowered to do horse trading or they may trade Roberts for 3 ballfields and a water fountain and think they made the deal of the century?…that in a City that routinely builds houses for over $200,000 that won’t sell at half that price that now we are expected to believe that Roberts Stadium could be built for $6.5 Million?…Please Mayor Winnecke, the Roberts Committee, or the Courier, stop insulting the people of Evansville with such obvious inaccuracies?

IS IT TRUE that all of this does not mean that even a single dollar will come forward to invest in Roberts even if only $6.5 Million is needed to convert it to an Events Center?…that private investment in Evansville that has any risk attached to it is as rare as a needle in a haystack?…that the City Council of Evansville has recently proved that it has no business whatsoever dabbling in the private investment world when it cowered to the “if you VET me I will leave” threat of Earthcare Energy?…that government on all levels seems to be more inept by the day?…that thinking a stadium can be built for $6.5 Million right after building one for $127 Million is about as inept as the secret service’s recent inability to organize a two car motorcade without stopping at a whorehouse on the way to the hotel?

IS IT TRUE we are extremely disappointed to hear that Evansville Association for the Blind, an outstanding local not-for profit organization recently lost its packaged cutlery contract to a for profit entity?…that this contract generated EAB about $2,000 a month for providing the Evansville State Hospital with packaged cutlery items?…that the loss of $24,000 a year gross income means less work and less programming to help EBA clients to remain self sustaining and economically independent?…that it is important to point out that EAB receives no direct government grant monies from the State or Federal to assist with their general operations budget?…we feel that it’s time that our locally elected state officials publically stand up to correct this problem before it ever happens again? …we feel this entire issue is shameful?

HOSA Car Show Planned at SICTC April 28

0

The students at the EVSC’s Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center involved in the
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) organization, are hosting a car show this Saturday
from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes research. The show will take place at the
Career Center, 1901 Lynch Road. All car entries are $10. Admission to view the cars is free. This is the
fifth year the group has sponsored the show.

The organization feels it is important to raise awareness of Juvenile Diabetes because the rate
of Type 1 diabetes incidence among children under the age of 14 is estimated to increase by 3 percent
annually worldwide, and there is no cure. Each year, more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults –
approximately 80 people per day – are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in the U.S.
SICTC serves about 700 students from Vanderburgh, Posey, North Gibson and South Gibson
counties, and the southern half of Spencer County. It offers 20 courses of study in 11 different career
clusters. The Career Center is identified by the National Research Center for Career and Technical
Education as one of the top five secondary career centers in the United States.

EVSC to Open New Early Childhood Center at Daniel Wertz

0

Parents in the Evansville area will have a new option next year for childcare with the opening of the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Little Panther World. Little Panther World will be housed at Daniel Wertz Elementary School and will be open to children ages three to five and will operate from 6:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

According to Erin Ramsey, EVSC director of Early Childhood Education, Little Panther World will offer the same learning opportunities as all of the high quality early childhood programs within EVSC. The focus on active learning, application of knowledge, inquiry and exploration through creative and engaging curriculum offers children and families a wonderful opportunity, says Ramsey.

“We know that young children learn better by playing and exploring new things,” Ramsey said. “We also know that 85 percent of a child’s capacity to learn occurs from birth to five years old. Little Panther World will provide another option for families looking for high quality childcare that effectively prepares them to enter kindergarten. ”

Ramsey also says Little Panther World will be modeled after the EVSC’s Little Husky World, housed at Scott School. Little Husky World has seen much success and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Cost for the program will be $130 each week and will accept 20 students its first year.

Individuals interested in enrolling in Little Panther World are asked to contact Daniel Wertz Elementary School at 435-8312.

Dave Crooks Earns Spot on DCCC’s Competitive Red-to-Blue Program

2

Dave Crooks, Democratic candidate for United States Congress (IN-08) announced today that he earned a spot on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s (DCCC) highly competitive Red-to-Blue program. Dave has surpassed demanding fundraising, organizing, and infrastructure goals and skillfully demonstrated to voters that he is a problem-solver who will protect the middle class when elected to Congress.

“This is a great step for our campaign to stand up for Hoosier seniors and middle-class families. It shows that our momentum is growing, and that we’re becoming increasingly competitive and have the grassroots support necessary to win in November,” said Dave Crooks. “As I travel the 19-county district, it’s becoming clear Eighth district families will not tolerate Congressman Bucshon’s votes to end the Medicare guarantee to give more tax cuts to multimillionaires and to companies that ship American jobs overseas.”

“As a small business owner, Dave Crooks knows how to balance a budget, meet payroll, and create jobs,” said DCCC Chairman Steve Israel. “Dave is first and foremost a problem-solver, and his dedication to Hoosier values like hard work, basic fairness, and protecting the middle class and seniors offer Indiana families a strong alternative to the extreme, Republican partisan agenda that ends Medicare just to give more tax breaks to billionaires and Big Oil.”

The DCCC’s Red to Blue program highlights top Democratic campaigns across the country, and offers them financial, communications, grassroots, and strategic support. The program will introduce Democratic supporters to new, competitive candidates in order to help expand the fundraising base for these campaigns.
