Hoosier Taxpayers Taking Advantage of the Automatic Taxpayer Refund Credit

0

untitled

INDIANAPOLIS (March 11, 2013) – More than 1.5 million taxpayers already have taken advantage of Indiana’s Automatic Taxpayer Refund (ATR) credit as of March 10. About 76 percent of all taxpayers filing as of March 10 have qualified for the credit.

More than $171 million has been awarded to Hoosier taxpayers so far this season. At this point, the state is on target in projecting the amount of money to be distributed. By the closing of the tax season, the department expects to award approximately $361 million in ATR credits to Hoosier taxpayers – funded entirely out of excess reserves at the close of fiscal year 2012.

In 2011, the Indiana General Assembly passed legislation providing for an Automatic Taxpayer Refund credit for eligible Indiana taxpayers when the state budget surplus exceeds 10 percent of the state’s appropriations. While tax year 2012 is the first year the credit is available, going forward it may be available every budget year (odd year) if a state budget surplus over a certain amount exists.

The refundable credit authorized for the 2012 tax year is $111 per eligible taxpayer ($222 for an eligible married couple filing a joint return). Dependents are not eligible to claim the ATR credit unless filing their own state tax return.

For more information on the ATR credit, please visit www.in.gov/dor/4761.htm, or if you have any questions specific to your return, please contact the department at (317) 232-2240 or contact us online at www.in.gov/dor/3392.htm.

Burglaries continue on East Side

EPD_PATCH_2012

Evansville Police continue to get reports of residential burglaries on the east side despite several arrests during their on-going investigations.
Police are asking the public to help watch their own neighborhoods and to call 911 to report any suspicious activity. There have been several reports from homeowners about people knocking on their doors in the evening and offering home improvement services. The homeowners thought it was suspicious because there were no work trucks and the person did not have any tools or items that identified them as a worker for any company. Police believe these people might be targeting the home and will break in of nobody answers. Police are asking anyone who gets one of these visits to remember as much info as possible about the person or type of vehicle.
Police warn against agreeing to any unsolicited work in or around your home. They also suggest you document the serial numbers for all of your property. Any items that do not have serial numbers, like jewelry, should be photographed. Doing those things can help during the investigation and will help you when you file an insurance claim.

Evansville Police Department’s Crime Analyst Curt Todd is in a competition to win a new mobility van. For those not familiar with Curt, he was hired on to EPD in 1992 and became disabled from a serious spinal cord injury incurred on duty in 1995 assisting EFD on a run aiding an elderly female in need of extrication. He is entered in the contest as an Evansville Local Hero. There is an excellent 2 minute video on the voting link summarizing why we feel he is a deserving Local Hero. Entrants may receive votes from same person each day it is not a one vote per person contest.
If you click the link and it says “You’ve already voted today” that only means someone already voted from that internet account that day, try another one such as your smart phone or home computer! If you get the Already Voted notice you can still play the brief video, it’s quite good.Voting ends midnight May 10th.
Make it part of your daily internet routine on your home computer and on your smart phone! Feel free to use the social media icons at the bottom of the voting page to share the link to your social media pages!

IS IT TRUE March 11, 2013

IS IT TRUE March 11, 2013

IS IT TRUE it has been pointed out to the City County Observer that the Courier Press recently reported on the Bond rating of the City of Evansville relative to the Ford Center?…this person just wanted to keep the people of Evansville informed that the Courier was comparing apple to oranges?… the Evansville Redevelopment Authority (ERA), which is totally separate from the City of Evansville, owns the Ford Center and issued the bonds that paid for the Ford Center?…the ERA then leases the Ford Center to the City?…during the audit process, the SBOA (State Board of Accountancy), will NOT be performing audit procedures concerning the ERA?… as such, should the City of Evansville encounter an adverse opinion due to the condition of the City’s records, the bond rating of the Arena will NOT be effected at all?… it was misleading to report, or insinuate that the Citizens of City have nothing to be concerned about regarding their bond ratings should we unfortunately receive less than a favorable audit opinion?

IS IT TRUE the Blue Angels that have been scheduled to perform at the Evansville Shriner’s Fest this summer have been cancelling shows across the country due to the budget cuts known as SEQUESTER?…we should know in a very short time if the Blue Angels will be coming to Evansville or not?…military shows like the Blue Angels always add to the crowd size in towns across the country and are seen as a welcome shot in the arm bringing tourist dollars to the towns they choose to perform in?…if these cities and towns had to foot the full cost to the American taxpayers for the performance they may be singing a different song?…it was reported yesterday that one Blue Angels performance uses about $100,000 just in jet fuel?…there are other costs associated with performing military planes too?…in terms of government spending that $100,000 is really the equivalent of 143 hammers that could be purchased at any hardware store for $3,500?…if SEQESTER starts our government on the path of sane spending it is worth it to miss things like the Blue Angels which while enjoyable are definitely not necessary to run the country and may well have been a wasteful indulgence for many years now?

IS IT TRUE speaking of the SEQUESTER the claims of jobs being lost because of reductions in planned spending are all over the map and in some cases designed to frighten the American people?…in truth there are some jobs supported entirely by government largesse that probably need to be eliminated?…let’s use the example of whomever is employed to make those $700 hammers and $500 toilet seats?…these jobs need to go away and the people doing these jobs need to be reassigned to something that serves the private sector or the government sector where pricing is not utterly insane?…it was President Obama’s right hand man Rahm Emmanuel who once said “never let a crisis go to waste”?…the SEQUESTER crisis if it really is one should be used to hit the reset button on government pricing?…it would serve our medical system that routinely has the nerve to bill patients and insurance companies up to $3 for a cotton ball to examine their pricing schemes as well?…if Obamacare is to work it will be fully dependent on sane pricing?…that government and medical services are the two most guilty industries in the United States when it comes to insanity of pricing?…the REAL WORLD of competitive enterprise would never ever tolerate such pricing?…that whatever the government does or regulates seldom works out well in the long run?

IS IT TRUE the CCO wishes to congratulate and celebrate the Indiana Hoosiers first outright Big Ten basketball championship in 20 years?…as this week’s conference tournaments play out Indiana is in a good spot to get a number one seed in March Madness along with Duke, Louisville, and #1 ranked Gonzaga?
