CVB Cuts a Deal for Ballfield Site at Goebel

The Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau board announced this morning that it has reached an agreement to buy a 96 acre parcel of land at the southwest corner of the Goebel Soccer Complex to build a new baseball and softball complex.
This is the new beginning of a project that was originally slated for the Roberts Stadium site at a cost of over $2 Million per ball field. No plans for the new baseball complex were released but CVB Director Bob Warren has previously estimated that the cost wil be between $10 Million and $13 Million dollars.
The previous board of the CVB had estimated that 8 ball fields would bring 100,000 visitors per year to Evansville. Mr. Warren has not yet commented on what he believes the visitor count will be. Independent analysis indicated a number more like 40,000 per year would be in town for tournaments and that many of those would travel from their homes to the ball fields daily.
Gregg Allman Plays the Blues at the Victory
Whether you came to the Gregg Allman show at the Victory Theatre on Tuesday night hoping to hear familiar Allman Brothers Band hits, covers of classic blues standards, or his own original music, you probably walked away satisfied. Allman delivered a packed 90-plus minute set with been-there-lived-that grittiness in his soulful vocals that was well-received by a very appreciative audience. Gregg’s son Devon Allman opened the show, and ably held his own with his brand of bluesy-rock.
“Classic rock and blues always sound great in this setting,†said Victory Theatre General Manager Ben Bolander. “We are encouraged by the support from fans of artists like Gregg Allman, and we look forward to bringing more of this type of show to the Victory in the near future.â€
The Victory Theatre has an active summer and fall schedule with upcoming shows that include Pop Evil July 11, Tyler Farr
(Summer Country Nights at the Victory series) July 12, “Weird Al†Yankovic – The Alpocalypse Tour July 27, Charlie Worsham (Summer Country Nights at the Victory series) August 15, No Justice (Summer Country Nights at the Victory series) September 13, Tommy Emmanuel September 20, and Don Williams October 17.

Obamacare costing wages, hours at work
By Reps. Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.), Phil Roe (R-Tenn.) and Trey Radel (R-Fla.)
June 25, 2013
As the Obamacare “train wreck†unfolds we continue to learn of the unintended, unnecessary, and burdensome consequences of a law passed without a single bipartisan vote in Congress.
Despite the President’s promise of lower health care costs, premiums are rising for families and estimates show that because of Obamacare, over 7 million Americans will lose their employer provided insurance.
In addition to losing their health care coverage, Americans are also seeing lost hours at work because of the tax increases and regulations associated with Obamacare. The bottom line is the Affordable Care Act is not affordable.
It’s not fair to you, your kids and grandkids that Obamacare will cut your wages, hours and may even cost you your job. How can you care for your family when Obamacare is putting your job on the line?
During a time when unemployment is high, Obamacare is dismantling the opportunity for even more Americans to find good paying jobs. Americans rely on these jobs to support their family, invest in their community, and save for their future.
Recently, President Obama’s top healthcare official, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, told the Education and the Workforce Committee that the stories regarding employees losing jobs and wages because of the health care law are just “speculation.â€
It’s not speculation to those who have already seen their workweek cut back to less than 30 hours or worse, lost their job because of Obamacare. Whether the Administration wants to recognize it or not, this is the new reality for so many American families.
Under this law, a full time employee will now be defined as someone who works 30 hours a week. Individuals who depend on full-time employment are having their hours and paycheck slashed so their employer can afford to stay in business. This dangerous and arbitrary new definition of a full time employee, forces too many to accept part-time work all while losing their health care coverage.
We have heard examples of this happening across the country. The city of Long Beach, California is pairing back hours for most of its 1,600 employees to avoid layoffs and reductions in city services. The largest movie theatre chain, Regal Cinemas, which operates in 38 states, is making a similar move. Just a few weeks ago, a school district in Fort Wayne, Indiana announced that over 600 teaching aides and cafeteria workers would have their hours cut to 25 hours so that schools can stay afloat.
These are real wages being lost by families who rely on them to pay for gas, groceries and their mortgage payments.
The consequences of the law are also a reality for companies giving up on expanding and creating jobs in their local communities. To pay for this monstrosity, the architects of Obamacare levied 21 new job-killing taxes, fees, and penalties, costing businesses in America over $600 billion.
According to the National Federation of Independent Business, the nation’s leading small business advocate, the Health Insurance Tax alone will cost up to 262,000 jobs. In addition to this, 3.2 million jobs in the franchise industry will be at risk because of Obamacare mandates, according to the Hudson Institute.
The effects of this law are real and they are damaging to you and your family – a fact the White House refuses to recognize.
We should be focused on doing everything we can to help Americans find meaningful employment. We can do this by removing this unnecessary, overcomplicated burden and instead having a fair system that allows you to care for your family.
Bucshon represents Indiana’s 8th congressional district in the House of Representatives since 2011. Roe represents Tennessee’s 1st congressional district since 2009. Radel represents Florida’s 19th congressional district since 2013. Bucshon and Roe are medical doctors.

IS IT TRUE June 26, 2013

IS IT TRUE June 26, 2013
IS IT TRUE when it comes to dogs there are two colors of dogs that Democrats come in?…a yellow dog Democrat is an old school party line person who in the words of the old Dixiecrats “would rather vote for a yeller dog than a Republican?â€â€¦lately the term most often associated with Democrats that have a practical streak and would rather vote for a yeller dog than some of the extreme left members of the Democrat party?…this is a blue dog Democrat?…that the winner of yesterday’s CCO Readers Poll concerning voting for the next Democratic candidate for Mayor was a real live “Blue Dog” from Nashville, TN?…that “Blue Dog” declined the opportunity to move from Nashville to Evansville to run for Mayor in 2015?…we hear that “Blue Dog” is strongly considering making a public endorsement who he wants to become the Democratic nominee for Mayor of Evansville?…if he does you can expect he shall support a strong “Blue Dog” democrat to run against the current Mayor?…that given the fact that all of BLUE’S opponents in yesterday’s poll are more blue dog than yeller dog in their Democrat ways, old BLUE will be as confused as if there were three cats close to him and he had to choose which one to chase?
IS IT TRUE the U.S. economy grew at a 1.8% annual rate in the first quarter of 2013, slower than the earlier estimates of 2.4% growth?…economists had expected a 2.4% final reading for first-quarter growth?…the revision was due largely to personal-consumption expenditures that slid to a 2.6% gain from 3.4%?…consumer spending, which accounts for two-thirds of economic output, largely drove overall gains in the first three months of the year?…the downward revision came from weaker spending on legal services, personal care and health care than previously estimated?
IS IT TRUE a 20 foot sink hole has developed on the east side of Evansville following the deluge of 6 inches of rain that fell on Monday?…we are sure this will be repaired in short order and will be interested to see if it was a natural occurrence or an aging pipe that was overwhelmed by the rush of water that failed and caused the sink hole?…we are hoping that this was a natural occurrence and not a pipe failure because if it was a pipe we can probably expect more sink holes but if it was natural it may be the only one?
IS IT TRUE the City County Observer broke the story that Evansville City Councilman at-large Jonathan Weaver had expressed an interest in running for Mayor of Evansville in 2015?…Councilman Weaver had made such statements at the recent Democrat love fest and removed all doubt yesterday with a public announcement?…his next step should be to form an exploratory committee to see just how much support there may be out there for a Weaver candidacy?…unless something has seriously changed since the last election Councilman Weaver may enjoy much more support than the CCO readership gave him when he came in 4th in a 4 candidate poll against Jonathan Weinzapfel, John Friend, and a dog named Blue?…the astounding part of that poll is that a real live dog got more votes than all three of these perennial elected officials combined?…Weaver in the last election got the 2nd highest vote total of all nine members of the City Council and may well have given Mayor Winnecke a run for his money in the general election?…the CCO recognizes that Jonathan Weaver has a pretty large group of supporters and will be a formidable candidate in both the Democrat primary and the general Mayoral election?…future opponents of this former weatherman whether he is a blue dog, yeller dog, or hound dog would be foolish to overlook Weaver’s base of support?
