The Perry Twp Fire Dept will be debuting our new Fire Safety Smoke House

0

The Perry Twp Fire Dept will be debuting our new Fire Safety Smoke House, Saturday April 13th at 11am. We will have it set up at the site of our future fire station, witch is located at 4801 Broadway ave. This site also contains the baseball fields known as Kuester Field, which we lease to West Side Independent League teams for $1.00 a year. They will be having opening day ceremonies at this time as well.

This safety house is a blow up house that is used to teach children fire safety. It allows children to be in a safe setting, using theater smoke (fog machine smoke), to give them a real world feel to exiting a smoke filled house.

Also, several of our members have built a unit used to safely dismantle METH labs. They will have this unit, the NUL Unit, on display as well. http://www.nulunit.com/

IS IT TRUE April 12, 2013

IS IT TRUE April 12, 2013

IS IT TRUE the City of Evansville received good news yesterday from two major bond rating agencies that will enable the City to refinance some existing Water and Sewer Department debt?…this will go a long way toward helping the City save approximately $400,000 per year on the debt service of these bonds over the next 10 years?…the City County Observer encourages the City to take this money saving step that is small in the big picture as it only saves 0.16% of the annual budget but it is savings none the less?…we also encourage the City to consider maintaining these high bond ratings when taking on additional debt as there is still that $500 Million combined sewer overflow problem that cannot be kicked down the road indefinitely?

IS IT TRUE that Casino Aztar has executed a purchase contract to own the building that used to be Fast Eddy’s?…the company that owned the building, 507 Properties LLC was a different company than the company that actually owned and operated the restaurant River Rock Café Incorporated that recently filed bankruptcy claiming to have only $3,481 in assets against liabilities of $180,697?…this makes two failed businesses that Aztar now owns the buildings of?…Aztar has a real estate portfolio that includes both Fast Eddy’s and Stoney’s real estate?…as Aztar rebrands itself into the flagship name of Tropicana it will be interesting to see just what gets done down at their complex?

IS IT TRUE the Vanderburgh County Council is going to have to tighten its belt a little bit or bust it’s budget too?…a $1.5 Million shortfall was recently found in the $51 Million budget which is just on the order of 3% that will need to be cut or found in some slush fund?…to put this into perspective this is like the average American family that earns about $51,000 per year having to deal with a $1,500 pay cut?…between the 2% Social Security tax increase and the increases in gas prices every American family has had to deal with such a cut this year already?…there did not seem to be much concern on the part of government for those families who faced this tax increase?…the collective taxing units across the county are whining that the property tax caps are going to cause them to lose $22.5 Million this year?…if that is truly the case we have to wonder how they would have spent the extra $21 Million had there been no tax caps?…it has not been that long since the tax caps went into effect and it is already forcing government to spend more responsibly?…without the caps we are certain that the spending machine of local government would have burned through that $22.5 Million and still cried poor?

IS IT TRUE the sure fire way to our government to collect more money is to create an atmosphere that allows private business to make more money and hire more people?…subsidizing one business with its competitors money is not a moral way to do such a thing?…the City of Evansville is hell bent to take tax money from existing businesses to subsidize retail, restaurants, and one single hotel in downtown Evansville?…this is not only an insult to every other business in Evansville it is a redistributionist mentality that is more fitting with a communist banana republic?…putting in sidewalks and sewers to promote commerce is indeed the governments job?…picking winners and losers in the marketplace the way the “pre-development” agreement the City just signed does, undermines private enterprise?…we are going down a slippery slope that discourages other new investments and incenses existing business owners?

IS IT TRUE the CCO would like to congratulate its webmaster Daniel Wallace for being named the “Outstanding Graduate” for the IVY Tech Business School for 2013?

About

It Takes a Village (ITV) is a no-kill, mostly volunteer 501(c)(3) dog rescue! We have a rescue center and thrift shop located at 1417 N. Stockwell (between Morgan and Vogel), but most of our dogs are in foster homes. Our website is ITVrescue.com.

Mission

It Takes A Village Canine Rescue, Inc. is a no-kill canine rescue dedicated to doing what it takes to find loving homes for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals, and to keep these animals safe and free from further suffering. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, veterinarians, animal control organizations, and trainers, we are able to rescue countless animals every year and provide them with loving temporary care as we work to find them well-matched forever homes. Although we do not discriminate based on breed, size or color, we have a particular interest in bully breeds, black dogs and other hard-to-place dogs. True to our no-kill policy, all “adoptable” animals are given the time, love and care needed to find their permanent home. We never euthanize for time or space purposes, and only perform humane euthanasia’s in the event of extreme, untreatable illness or aggression.

Company Overview

We have our 501(c)(3) status with the IRS and we are registered with the state of Indiana as a nonprofit organization. All donations to ITV are tax-deductible. Although we have a rescue center to serve as a temporary housing facility for dogs in need, most of our dogs are kept in loving foster homes. Our main focus is to help the dogs located within four shelters in the Evansville area – Gibson County Animal Services, Owensboro Animal Control, Evansville Animal Control and Warrick Animal Control. We desire to influence our community, and hope to one day make a dent in the homeless pet population! We try to focus on the more “undesirable” dogs that find themselves in the shelter. This includes black dogs and/or bully breeds! This does not mean, however, that we won’t save any dog in danger, regardless of breed or location!

Alcoa reaches milestone, in business for 125 years

STATEHOUSE – State Representative Ron Bacon (R-Chandler) offered a House resolution today honoring the 125th anniversary of Alcoa Inc.

“I am especially proud to offer this resolution because Alcoa is the largest employer in Warrick County,” said Rep. Bacon. “The ability to be in business for over a century is remarkable. Alcoa, and its employees, should be proud of this accomplishment as all of us in the community look forward to their continued success and growth”

Alcoa has partnered with communities and invested more than $550 million through the Alcoa Foundation since its founding in 1952.

The company manufactures products for the aerospace, automotive, packaging and printing markets at three locations in Indiana. They employ 3,200 Hoosiers with operations in Lafayette, LaPorte and Newburgh.

“Alcoa is a leader in research, manufacturing and business for our state. For 125 years, they have been a catalyst in the economic development and betterment of communities throughout Indiana with the foundation and by employing thousands of Hoosiers,” said Rep. Bacon.

In 1886, Alcoa’s co-founder Charles Martin Hall, discovered an affordable way to produce aluminum through electrolysis that created the modern aluminum industry. To commercialize Hall’s discovery, the Pittsburgh Reduction Company was incorporated in 1888, and later renamed Alcoa. The company’s innovative solutions have revolutionized its markets, from aerospace and automotive to consumer electronic and packaging.

More information about Alcoa can be found at their website, www.alcoa.com.

Chief Bolin shaves his head as show of support for EPD Detective battling Leukemia

1

imageEPD Chief Billy Bolin followed through on a promise to have his head shaved at an Evansville school as part of the “Shavin’ for Schroer” fundraiser. He shaved his head after raising $1500 for the Schroer family.
Chief Bolin spoke to the students at West Terrace School about leadership and following your dreams. After sharing his thoughts, he was called to the “hot seat”.
Several students were called up to help shave Chief Bolin’s head. After what can only be described as “several interesting haircut techniques”, Chief Bolin was left with a lot less hair, but a lot of new friends.
While the event was fun for the kids and the Chief, the reason behind it remains in the hearts and minds of the EPD family. As Detective Nathan Schroer continues his battle against Leukemia, we would like to thank everyone who has helped the Schroer famliy.
