The Fuming Chamber had previously been used in ITT’s Criminal Justice program. The Fuming Chamber will be used by the Evansville Police Department Crime Scene Unit. The Fuming Chamber is valued at over $5000.00. The Evansville Police Department Foundation and Evansville Police Department would like to thank ITT Technical Institute and Dean of Students Farshad Moshgbar for this generous donation.

The Fuming Chamber is designed to safely and effectively process items using the cyanoacrylate fuming method. It provides a controlled environment for processing latent fingerprints on most non-porous surfaces while eliminating exposure to hazardous fumes.

This Fuming Chamber uses an advanced ‘touch computer screen’ that monitors and controls humidity levels, hot plate fume cycle time, door lock, and internal circulation fans. All parameters are preset but can be user controlled by simply touching the computer screen. Once fuming is complete, a purge cycle evacuates harmful vapors through its high capacity carbon filter system.

Softball’s Dorsam garners All-America honor

Junior utility player MacKenzi Dorsam is the fifth player in program history to earn All-America honors.
University of Southern Indiana softball junior utility player MacKenzi Dorsam has been named third-team All-America by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association.Dorsam is the fifth player in program history and the first since Sara Loete in 2008 to earn All-America honors.

A first-team All-Midwest Region honoree by the NFCA as well as Daktronics, Dorsam led the Screaming Eagles and was sixth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a .388 batting average in 2014. In addition, she led USI with 54 hits, 34 runs, 31 RBIs, while also tallying eight doubles, one triple, and four home runs.

Defensively, Dorsam split time between second base, shortstop, and catcher, totaling 165 putouts and 65 assists while committing just seven errors. She also played a game at first base early in the season.

“What an honor for MacKenzi,” USI Head Coach Sue Kunkle said. “Her coaches and teammates are extremely proud of her!

“At the beginning of the year, MacKenzi made goals for herself and one of them was to get first-team All-Region honors so she could qualify (for the national ballot) and hopefully earn an All-America honor,” Kunkle continued. “She is an exceptional player who has worked hard to better herself as a player each year and is excited to bring even better things to this program next year.”

The Dubois, Indiana, native garnered second-team All-Midwest Region honors by Daktronics and the NFCA last year as the Eagles advanced to the NCAA II Tournament. She was named second-team All-GLVC East Division honors each of the last two seasons.

USI finished the 2014 season with a 22-23 overall record and a 12-22 mark in the GLVC, good for sixth in an East Division that saw two teams advance to the NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament.

Freeland Named to 18-Man Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List

Kyle Freeland was one of just 18 pitchers named to the Pitcher of the Year Award watch list.
University of Evansville junior Kyle Freeland was one of just 18 pitchers named to the watch list for the Pitcher of the Year Award, sponsored by Diamond, in a release issued by the College Baseball Hall of Fame Wednesday afternoon.Freeland, who is 10-2 with a 1.90 ERA, is one of just five pitchers on the list with over 100 strikeouts this season, as the Denver, Colo., native has fanned 128 opposing hitters and walked just 13 in his 99.2 innings this season.  In addition, Freeland has surrendered just 13 extra-base hits during his junior campaign and is limiting opponents to a .214 batting average.

The Pitcher of the Year Award will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame’s annual Night of Champions on June 28 in Lubbock, Texas.

INDIANAPOLIS – A former Illinois legislator will seek the Democratic nomination for state treasurer at the party’s convention on May 31 in Indianapolis.

Mike Boland, who now lives in Fishers, filed paperwork with the party Friday morning to run.

He’s expected to be opposed and then face the winner of the GOP nomination. Three-term Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold, Don Bates Jr. of Richmond and Kelly Mitchell, who works in the treasurer’s office now, will face off at the Republican convention next month.

Boland, a 30-year educator, moved to Indiana in 2012 with his wife after serving in the Illinois General Assembly for 16 years, where he was active in legislation related to schools, veterans, child advocacy, agriculture and firefighters. Since arriving in Indiana, he’s become involved in Democratic politics by helping candidates and organizations with a mission to “restore balance to Hoosier government.”

Currently, Republicans hold all the state elected offices – except the superintendent of public instruction – and the GOP also controls the House and Senate.

“Mike Boland is a lifelong public servant who will work hard to advance the cause of ‘better and more balanced’ government in our Statehouse,” said State Democratic Chairman John Zody. “Hoosiers deserve better in our state, and a candidate like Mike who understands that mission. When elected, he will keep his focus on Hoosiers instead of on politics.”

Boland said in a statement that the state treasurer is “is tasked with enormous responsibility in the financial management of taxpayer dollars” and has some ability to move money separately from General Assembly appropriations.

“It is imperative that there be transparent and balanced representation in our Statehouse,” Boland said. “As treasurer, I will work to restore the trust of Hoosiers with my attention squarely focused on the fiscal health of our state.”

Democrats plan to gather in Indianapolis on May 30-31 for what they’re calling the ‘Big Dem Weekend,’’ which will include the party’s annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner followed by the State Democratic Convention.
