IS IT TRUE we hear that Independents, Libertarians, Tea-party members, disgruntled Republicans and Democrats, local small business owners and everyday Taxpayers are talking about having a mass but peaceful protest at the Civic Center in March?  …the focus of this event shall be targeted at the out of control and liberal spending habits of local city government?  …we hear that the DMD and the Evansville Redevelopment Commission wild and out of control spending habits also shall also be the focus of this vocal but peaceful protest?

IS IT TRUE if this peaceful protest become a reality don’t be surprised to see local law enforcement bring out the “Guardian” surveillance vehicle to monitor the peaceful protest of the people?

IS IT TRUE WHEN THE PEOPLE FEAR THE GOVERNMENT THERE IS TYRANNY?  …WHEN THE GOVERNMENT FEARS THE PEOPLE THERE IS LIBERTY?

IS IT TRUE that in September 2014, Winnecke cashed in 2.2 million from the Police and Firefighters Pension investments and deposited into the same bank account that the General Fund operates out of helping to make the payroll checks good?  …if you don’t believe this statement please ask the City Controller when you see him?

IS IT TRUE that the employees’ healthcare fund as of September 30, 2014 is overdrawn by 2.9 million. …if you don’t believe this statement please ask the City Controller when you see him?

IS IT TRUE that the Master TIF fund, yes, the fund that supports the Hotel and IU Med projects declined by over 50% within one year, i.e. 3 million dollars. …if you don’t believe this statement please ask the City Controller when you see him?

 IS IT TRUE we wonder when Old National bank are going to pay the taxpayers of this community the $14 million dollar they owe us for naming right at the Centre?  …when the Old National does advertising with the local main stream media they must pay?  …why isn’t Old National Bank paying the taxpayers for advertising on taxpayer funded property?

Evansville Man Arrested After Interfering With Firefighters And Resisting Law Enforcement During Overnight House Fire

Evansville police arrested 26 year old Bobby Goodman after he interfered with Evansville Fire Department Firefighters who were trying to extinguish a fire at 2125 Rheinhardt.
A fire department investigator called for police assistance after Goodman repeatedly tried to go into the house as fire crews tried to fight the fire. The firefighters had to stop battling the blaze on multiple occasions to prevent Goodman from entering the house. Police were called when Goodman tried to fight with the firemen.
When the first officer arrived, she tried to speak with Goodman. Goodman began cursing at her and refused to calm down. When the officer tried to arrest Goodman, he actively resisted arrest. Several females began interfering with the officer and tried to pull Goodman away from her. The officer called for assistance due to the behavior of Goodman and his female friends.
A second officer arrived and assisted in the arrest of Goodman. Despite Goodman’s continued resistance, officers were able to get him into custody. Goodman was arrested for Interfering with a Firefighter, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Law Enforcement.
The firefighters were able to resume their duties and extinguish the fire. Goodman listed the Rheinhardt address as his residence.

Evansville Police were called to the area of Powell and Governor around 11:00pm Thursday for a report of shots being fired.
Officers arrived and found a shooting victim in the alley in the 900 block of S. Elliott. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Throughout the night, investigators have been speaking with potential witnesses. At this time, police have not named a suspect in the case.
The name of the victim is not bing released at this time. His name will be released after relatives have been notified.

Individual Artists Encouraged to Attend Interactive Webinar December 2, 2014 to Apply for Career Development Grants

Indiana artists in Dance, Literature, Music, and Theatre are invited to attend a live webinar on Tuesday, December 2 from 6:00 – 7:30 PM (EST)/5:00 – 6:30 (CST) at our Region 10 site located at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. The Arts Council is located at 318 Main Street in downtown Evansville and ample street parking is available.

Our region will be participating as a satellite site for the webinar hosted by the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) Program Staff. Each site will be able to post questions to be answered during the presentation. Artists attending will be given a copy of the FY2016 Guidelines and will also be able to engage in follow-up discussion with their regional program director.

The deadline for submitting Individual Artist Program applications is February 6, 2015 for the grant cycle that will begin July 1, 2015 and conclude June 30, 2016.
Eligible projects will only be considered in the areas of dance, literature, music, theatre, and folk arts related to these traditional disciplines. Artists with disabilities are encouraged to apply for projects related to the eligible disciplines either through the discipline directly or through the access category.
Individual artists living and working in Indiana may apply for up to $2,000 from the IAP grant program, which requires no matching funds. The grants are intended to assist artists with specific project-related costs that will help them further their career and provide some form of public benefit through the completed project.

BREAKING NEWS: 3rd Ward City Councilwoman Brinkerhoff-Riley Won’t Seek Second Term

City Councilwoman for Evansville’s Third Ward, Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley, announced  to the City County Observer earlier today that she will not seek a second term in office. Brinkerhoff-Riley was elected in November of 2011 and her term ends December 31, 2015.

When asked for the basis of her decision, Brinkerhoff-Riley stated, “Over the last few months my priorities have changed, as well as my personal and professional goals. I look forward to finishing projects related to the City’s Taxi Ordinance; a county-wide blight elimination program; an ordinance creating preference for residents and veterans in City hiring; and an ordinance that prefers city-based businesses for vendor services. I’ve enjoyed the last three years, accomplished quite a few goals and learned a tremendous amount about municipal law.”

When ask if she will be a candidate for a future political office she declined to answer our pointed question.

Rep. Turner makes Resignation Official

INDIANPOLIS – State Rep. Eric Turner, R-Cicero, has officially resigned his seat in the Indiana House, which leaves local Republicans to choose his successor.

Turner – who has faced criticism for lobbying privately for legislation that benefited him and his family – had announced before the election he would resign. But it was too late for him to remove his name from the ballot and he won reelection easily over a Democratic challenger.

House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, has said lawmakers will consider whether to change the law that makes it difficult for parties to replace candidates on the ballot in the months leading up to an election.

Turner, first elected in 1994, said in a resignation letter to Bosma that he leaves the legislature “with my integrity and my head held high, knowing for every one of the years I served, I always tried to do what was right.”

Turner’s resignation is effective Sunday. A caucus of Republican precinct committee officials in his district will choose his replacement.

During his 20 years in the legislature, the social and fiscal conservative rose into leadership, serving most recently as speaker pro tem. However, Bosma had said even before Turner announced his resignation that he would not reappoint him to the leadership post.

Critics have accused Turner of failing to disclose a financial interest legislation he tried to influence during the last legislative session. Turner has denied any wrongdoing and the House Ethics Committee earlier this year cleared him of breaking chamber rules. But the committee said his actions did not achieve “the highest spirit of transparency” when he lobbied his colleagues to lift a nursing home construction moratorium that would have helped him and his family financially.

Turner is leaving the General Assembly to serve as a trainer with EQUIP, a non-profit organization specializing in mentoring Christian leaders. Turner is a long-time financial supporter of EQUIP and earlier he and his wife spent a week with the Christian organization in Cyprus teaching leadership to 60 Christian pastors and leaders from 12 Middle East Muslim countries.

In his letter, the Republican said that he will not be compensated for his work with EQUIP and he will pay his own expenses. Turner and his wife plan to remain in Cicero, although he said he’ll be traveling to Atlanta next month for training.

Mother Transporting Daughter Arrested for DUI

Gibson County – Yesterday at approximately 5:15 p.m., Trooper Nick Hatfield assisted the Haubstadt Town Marshall with a traffic stop on Main and Gibson Street in Haubstadt. The town marshal observed the driver of a black 2004 Jeep driving left of center on SR 68 and on Main Street. The driver was identified as Ramona Vanover, 53, of Haubstadt. Officers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage and noticed her eyes were bloodshot. Vanover’s nine-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed Vanover had a blood alcohol content of .28%. She was arrested and taken to the Gibson County Jail where she is currently being held on bond. Her daughter was released to her father.

Becker to Serve on Three Senate Committees

Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) appointed State Sen. Vaneta Becker (R-Evansville) to serve on three standing senate committees for the 119th General Assembly.

Becker was named ranking member of the Senate Committee on Family and Children Services, and will serve on the Senate Committee on Health and Provider Services and the Senate Committee on Public Policy. Becker was also named chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Provider Services.

“Committee meetings are a vital part of the legislative process, allowing lawmakers to hear from supporters and opponents of proposed legislation,” Becker said. “I look forward to serving on each of these important committees and studying issues affecting Hoosiers.”

The 2015 legislative session ceremonially began Tuesday, Nov. 18, with Organization Day. Legislators will reconvene Jan. 6, and by law must conclude by April 29.
