IS IT TRUE that the new member of the Evansville Redevelopment Commission who was appointed by the City Council, Cheryl Musgrave took advantage of her first day on the job to inject both sanity and good judgement into the normally chaotic process observed by the ERC?…what Mrs. Musgrave did was call for a delay in what was about to be a rush to vote?…this is what all levels of government have been needing for many years now?…Mrs. Musgrave asked for time to review the materials that were presented to her so that her vote could come from a place of knowledge and understanding as opposed to what some impatient agent of the Mayor’s office wanted?…the politically embattled Mayor Chief Of Staff Mr. Steve Schaefer was right there as he always is demanding that the ERC pass something without reading so they can learn what it is all about later when it comes back to bite them on the fanny?…it is ironic that this happened on a day when California Representative Nancy Pelosi who is the inventor of the term “you have to pass it to see what is in it” was kissed by incredible orange Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner?…it is amazing to the CCO that long time Conservative Republicans like John Boehner and Steve Schaefer are supporting the Pelosi doctrine of “passing it before reading it” after demonizing her for doing the exact same thing while pushing ObamaCare through the House of Representatives?…if Cheryl Musgrave’s first day on the job is any indication of the wisdom that she brings to the ERC, the shenanigans are about to be challenged on every instance?

IS IT TRUE a court ruled today that the lawsuit by Louis Milan against the Evansville Police Department for the flash grenade incident at her home will be going to a jury?…this is exactly the right thing to do and we suspect that a jury of 12 intelligent American citizens will have a full understanding of what happened and will render a just verdict?…as much as the City County Observer supports the Evansville Police Department, in this particular case they messed up bad and a financial consequence in favor of Ms. Milan is the price the City of Evansville will have to pay for some good cops having a “Rambo Day” at the expense of a grandmother and a young 12 year grand daughter?…everyone makes mistakes, especially when an IP address is concerned, but this is a lesson that will have to be internalized to be learned well?…what we really hope for is for the EPD to learn this lesson, for Ms. Milan to feel like justice is served, and for nothing like this to ever happen again?

IS IT TRUE Mayor Winnecke spent 20 minutes in Indianapolis yesterday attempting to convince Governor Pence to fiat the IU Medical School into the next budget?…while it is admirable for the Mayor to do what he thinks may speed up this process, the reality is that the trustees of Indiana University have ranked this project as 37th out of 37 projects on the drawing board for IU?…if Mayor Winnecke really wants to make a difference a better approach may be to enter the world of academia and learn why the downtown Evansville Medical School rated at the absolute bottom of the barrel and see if it can be assigned a higher priority?…the fact remains that the Trustees of Indiana University manage IU and the governor only writes a budget?…there are many good reasons that politicians are not in the management chain of public universities, and prioritization of construction projects is at the top of the list of reasons why politicians have no business making academic decisions?

IS IT TRUE the main reason why the Mayor and his Water and Sewer crew was in Indianapolis today was to discuss the stagnant plan to repair our combined sewer overflow problem?…of course the cast of characters are still trying to cry poor with respect to the sewer repairs right after peeing $127 Million away on a temple to sport, advocating for a $10 Million dog park, and planning on giving away $77 Million for a Downtown Hotel and a IU Medical School that could have gone elsewhere for free?…every year this project is delayed will raise the construction cost by at least $20 Million based on 3% annual increases and this pack of jackals knows it?…our decrepit sewers spread filth, disease, and odor while destroying the quality of life in the economically challenged parts of this city, and repelling potential employers from considering Evansville as a future site for growth?…someday the posse of fools who have fought like the dickens to delay and degrade this project from Weinzapfel to Winnecke will be looked upon with the same disdain that the “Mission Accomplished” banner that President Bush stood under for theatrical purposes years ago before any mission had actually been accomplished?…the people causing this delay are doing immeasurable damage to the City of Evansville and should be removed from office for crying poor about needs while begging for funds to keep the party rolling for another year?

Intoxicated Motorist Causes Two Crashes Overnight

On Tuesday, January 06, 2015 at approximately 10:55 pm, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Diamond Avenue and Detroy Road for an accident with injuries.

On scene investigation and witness statements indicated that a Ford F250 driven by Mr. Todd Helfert had been west on Diamond Avenue at a high rate of speed before striking the rear of a Dodge Dakota driven by Mr. Brent Manzi. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to overturn. Mr. Helfert was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be removed by emergency personnel. Mr. Manzi was not injured.

While still on scene at the Diamond Avenue crash, the investigating deputy learned that a vehicle matching the description of Mr. Helfert’s had been involved in a hit and run crash at N St. Joseph Avenue and Bement Avenue. An investigation determined that moments before the Diamond Avenue crash, Mr. Helfert had struck a small passenger vehicle from behind while traveling a high rate of speed. The impact caused the passenger vehicle to spin several times and sustain significant damage. The driver of the passenger vehicle was not injured.

Mr. Helfert was transported to Deaconess Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Deputies attempted to obtain Mr. Helfert’s consent for a blood alcohol test, but he refused. Under statutory authority, the Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain hospital lab results which indicated Mr. Helfert’s blood alcohol concentration was .312 (which is nearly four times the legal limit).

Once Mr. Helfert was discharged from the hospital he was lodged at the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center. The west bound lanes of Diamond Avenue were closed for approximately 90 minutes while the vehicles were removed and the roadway cleaned up.

EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation to Hold Media Call on Carbon Pollution

Today at 12:30 p.m. EST, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Acting Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation Janet McCabe will hold a press call on carbon pollution from power plants.
At the direction of President Obama and after an unprecedented outreach effort, EPA released the proposed Clean Power Plan in June 2014, which for the first time seeks to cut carbon pollution from existing power plants, the single largest source of carbon pollution in the United States. The proposal will protect public health, move the United States toward a cleaner environment and fight climate change while supplying Americans with reliable and affordable power.

Keystone Fight Is About Much More

The House is set to vote on the Keystone XL pipeline as their first order of business in the new Congress — and this time the newly-elected Senate is expected to have enough votes to break the anti-energy filibuster led by liberals Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer, who is urging President Obama to stop the pipeline with a veto.

The merits of the project are well known, including over 40,000 jobs, more secure access to North American energy, and lower greenhouse gas emissions than the alternatives of moving oil to market by rail or tanker ships.

President Obama’s own jobs council famously advised: “Policies that facilitate the safe, thoughtful and timely development of pipeline, transmission and distribution projects are necessary” — and yet this permit process has stalled now for a stunning six years.

The president himself said: “The net effects of the pipeline’s impact on our climate will be absolutely critical to determining whether this project is allowed to go forward” — and then his own State Department, led by Hillary Clinton, concluded that all three “no action” scenarios would have significantly higher emissions than approving the pipeline.

Although oil prices have sharply declined recently, major infrastructure projects are for the long term, and backing off based on market conditions now would play directly into the hands of the Saudis and other OPEC producers who hope to use low prices to disrupt North American competitors so they can raise prices again later.

So what’s the problem? Why did Democrats go to such enormous lengths to block this project last Congress and why is the president even now considering a veto?

The principal opponent of the pipeline is San Francisco billionaire Tom Steyer, who made billions investing in fossil fuels abroad before becoming a crusading political activist opposing affordable energy in America — and heavily investing in taxpayer-subsidized green energy that competes with fossil fuels.

It was at an infamous fundraiser at his house nearly a year ago that he offered up to $100 million for Democratic candidates if they would block the pipeline. He largely made good on that promise, spending about $73 million, joined by a handful of like-minded donors but mostly from his own pockets.

In a 2013 talk at Berkeley, Steyer explained his obsession. “The biggest thing about Keystone is we have to make a change,” the biggest donor in American politics said.

“We have to make a decision to do something different… And if we do that, we’ll end up with a carbon tax or we’ll end up with some control of carbon. That’s a given,” Steyer said. “But the question is at what point do we decide we’ve had our Pearl Harbor moment?”

Got that? Steyer believes that if he can stop a major infrastructure project against the weight of all facts and logic, his goal of a massive new energy tax becomes easy.

Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer lined up with Steyer’s “Pearl Harbor” for more expensive energy in a recent interview, in which he outlined a series of messaging amendments — mostly protectionist trade measures — that Democratic leaders would use to create excuses for their rank-and-file members to vote no.

When interviewer Bob Schieffer asked Schumer: “If these amendments pass, you would still urge the president to veto this legislation?” Schumer responded “Well, yes.”

Are Democrats really willing to block billions of dollars of private investment and tens of thousands of union jobs on the hopes of future tax hikes and the wishes of a single mega-donor?

Let’s hope President Obama is willing to stand up to Steyer and sign the bill.

Miranda Lambert Shines Brightly at Ford Center

 Miranda Lambert’s Certified Platinum Tour hit the Ford Center on Thursday night performing to a sold-out crowd. RaeLynn began the evening getting the crowd going with her cover of Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass.” The energy continued as Justin Moore performed some of his hits including “Bait a Hook” and “Small Town USA.”

The crowd was on their feet as Miranda Lambert stormed onto the stage with “Fastest Girl in Town,” then fired into “Kerosene.” She continued her string of hits with “The House that Built Me” and “Heart Like Mine.”

“RaeLynn is an up-and-comer. By pairing her with Justin Moore and Miranda Lambert, the audience got to see three great headliners in one show,” said Ford Center Executive Director Scott Schoenike.

Couple’s Social Dancing will be offering Night Club Two-Step Level Two, East Coast Swing Level One, and West Coast Swing Level One beginning in January and February. The classes are taught by David and Donna Koring, who have been instructors since 2003.

Each class lasts for five weeks and is $65 per couple. Pre-registration is required.
