IS IT TRUE it seems as though one of the legacy of neglect attractions in Evansville is the Mesker Amphitheatre?…it was published two years ago that Dave Rector had made a statement that Mesker could be repaired for the paltry sum of $100,000 and that has some readers up in arms about why it hasn’t been done?…one must remember that this is the same Dave Rector who pointed to a small puddle of water on the floor of Roberts Stadium as a good justification for razing it to the ground?…that being the case there is no reason to think that his claim that Mesker could be repaired for $100,000 has any merit to it whatsoever?…while Mesker would be a welcome venue in the summer and could well be a better attraction than the Ford Center the cost to bring it up to current standards would most likely surpass $10 Million?…that is a paltry sum when compared to the $127 Million that was spent on Ford Center and we are sure the bang fore the buck would be better?…as much as we would like to see Mesker restored to its former glory, a city that can’t pay to change the oil in police cars has no business embarking on a $10 Million project of any kind?

IS IT TRUE the private contributors who have taken on the task of raising enough money to give the Owen Block building a new life have come up with a name for themselves?…they are hereby anointed as “The Blockheads” and proudly wear their blockhead shirts around town?…this is a group that we should all be proud of and emulate when it comes to restoration projects of historical significance?…we hope the McCurdy and the Jackson House can find the same level of love somewhere?

IS IT TRUE celebrity comedic newscaster Jon Stewart is leaving the Daily Show?…the Daily Show made a visit to Evansville back at the turn of the century when City Controller Russ Lloyd Junior was Mayor of Evansville?…the segment on the show where Evansville was given the name of “crap in the streets capital of America” was hilarious to say the least?…it all coincided with the now infamous Cher concert where Mayor Lloyd skipped a City Council meeting where the Combined Sewer Discharge problem was to be discussed to attend the Cher concert only to be pummeled by some of the Democrats on council for putting Cher ahead of the City of Evansville’s business?…it seems as though the contentious relationship between the City Council and the Mayor of Evansville has been around for a long time now?…when they fight the sewage flows in the streets and when they play nice the sewage flows in the streets?…it seems as though the only real constant is the willingness of Mayors and Councils to kick the can down the road when it comes to repairing Evansville’s sewers?

IS IT TRUE GAGE President Debbie Dewey is headed for a new job at Indiana American Water next month?…she will serve as the Vice President of Operations at the utility that provides water and wastewater services across the state?…in a parting statement she expressed the fact that she missed working in a big company while working for the small non-profit in Evansville?…the CCO wishes her well in her new position?

IS IT TRUE that NBC has placed their former uber-anchorman Brian Williams, on a 6 month hiatus from a job he has done very well for over 20 years over telling a lie about being in the line of fire in Iraq?…this is the same darn lie told by Hillary Clinton about a flight into Bosnia when her husband was President of the United States?…Ms. Clinton is now the front runner to become the next President of the United States and Brian Williams is about to lose his job as a TelePrompTer reading anchorman?…in a country obsessed with inequality this is the ultimate hypocrisy?…if we are so worried about a lie told by a news reader that is equivalent to a lie told by an aspiring President with a willingness to put her in charge of the nuclear codes but unwilling to sanction an embellished war story, we are one conflicted hypocritical nation?

IS IT TRUE that the last bit of information to advise our readers about today is that Joe Wallace, who is one of the editors of the CCO and was the founder of GAGE has been named as a nominee for the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2015 for his work in the Coachella Valley Innovation Hub and the establishment of the Palm Springs Accelerator Campus?

Mt. Vernon Man Arrested for Sexual Misconduct

Indiana State Police arrested a 26-year-old Mt. Vernon man yesterday afternoon after a criminal investigation revealed he had sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl.

 

Indiana State Police Detective Alan Sherretz initiated a criminal investigation on February 6 after receiving information Andrew Williams, 26, had been having sexual relations with a 14-year-old Posey County girl.  During the investigation, Detective Sherretz revealed Williams had sexual relations with the teen on multiple occasions between April and September 2014.

 

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 5:00, Indiana State Police arrested Williams at his residence without incident.  He was taken to the Posey County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.

MUSGRAVE AND OWEN TO CO-HOST NEWLY REORGANISED TRI-STATE VOICES PROGRAM

The City County Observer and the law firm of Woods and Woods, LLP is pleased to announce the return of Tri-State Voices to ME TV Tri-State.  The program is ½ hour long and can be seen on channels 36.1, 20.1, WOW 105 and Time Warner 3 and 14 every Sunday morning at (time).  Episodes are also available online at City-CountyObserver.com and the Tri-State Voices Youtube Channel.

Mark Owen served two terms on the Vanderburgh County Council, one unexpired term as a Vanderburgh County Commissioner and twelve years as Democratic Party Chairman. Owen chaired successful campaign committees for former Evansville Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel and US Congressman d Ellsworth. Owen previously served as Executive Director of the Board of Public Works, Chair of the Board of Directors for Southwestern Healthcare, Inc. and is currently a Commissioner on the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Commission.  Owen works as a Broker Associate for F.C. Tucker Emge Realtors.

Cheryl Musgrave served ten years as the Vanderburgh County Assessor, two and a half years as Vanderburgh County Commissioner, and was appointed by Governor Mitch Daniels as Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance.  Ms. Musgrave currently serves on the Vanderburgh County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Evansville Redevelopment Commission.  She operates her own consulting firm, Musgrave Consulting LLC.

The first show airs on Sunday, February 15, 2015 and will feature the controversial residency ordinance.  This ordinance requires all city board appointees to be residents of the City of Evansville.  The residency ordinance was initially passed by City Council, then vetoed by the Mayor.  The Council then voted to override the veto only to have the mayor file a lawsuit. This is a developing story and we look forward to hearing the discussion regarding this legal and political issue.

Evansville Regional Airport Welcomes  New Service from United Airlines

Evansville Regional Airport announced  that United Airlines will be adding three daily flights from Evansville, IN (EVV) to Chicago, IL (ORD) beginning on June 4, 2015.  These flights will be operated with Embraer 145 50-passenger jet aircraft. The flights became available for sale this past Saturday. Passengers can visit united.com to book their tickets.

ST. MARY’S HOSTS FAMILY FOUNDATIONS COURSE

St. Mary’s is hosting a free Family Foundations course presented by Youth First in March. Family Foundations is designed to help couples establish positive parenting skills and adjust to the physical, social and emotional challenges of parenthood.

This course will meet each Monday starting March 9 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the Gift Conference room, located just off the lobby of the Hospital for Women and Children.   This class is for couples expecting a baby and currently in the 3rd trimester. A follow-up four week course will be offered for class participants later in the Postpartum period. Couples are encouraged to join in this class full of fun activities.

Registration is free, but limited, and can be made here. Door prizes are given weekly.

Governor Pence Takes Steps to Ensure Shortened ISTEP Test

Indianapolis – Today, Governor Mike Pence signed Executive Order 15-04 to shorten the length of the 2015 ISTEP test, which will be administered in March.

“Doubling the length of the 2015 ISTEP test is unacceptable and requires an immediate solution,” said Governor Pence. “As soon as I learned of this issue, I vowed to support efforts to shorten the test while preserving the accountability that Hoosier students and families deserve.”

The Executive Order, crafted in full consultation with legislative leaders, calls for a nationally recognized assessment expert to review the ISTEP test. It also directs the consultant to present the recommendations before the State Board of Education.

Without the action of Executive Order 15-04, Indiana schools are expected to experience a significant increase in testing time this March, largely because a pilot test, as recommended, was not administered by the Indiana Department of Education in either May or September of 2014. When asked in September if combining the required pilot test with the ISTEP test would add time and questions, the Department stated it would “add a few questions.” Below is a table depicting the length of time expected for the 2015 ISTEP test.

The Governor also reiterated his support for school accountability today.

 

“We grade students every day in Indiana. We should be willing to grade schools once every year,” said the Governor. “Our administration is committed to maintaining accountability within our schools and ensuring the best possible education for each and every Hoosier child.”
