Trooper Brad Mull applied a tourniquet to the arm of a Vincennes man last night and potentially saved his life. The Vincennes man was injured during a confrontation with three unknown men.

Last night at approximately 8:25, Indiana State Police and Vincennes City Police responded to Huck’s Convenience Store located at the corner of St. Clair and Washington Avenue in Vincennes after receiving a 911 call regarding a seriously injured person on their property.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 30-year-old male and a 24-year-old female were walking together on a street near their residence in Vincennes when a blue Jeep Liberty passed by. A male inside the vehicle allegedly yelled at the female. After a brief verbal confrontation, the vehicle drove away. The married couple continued to walk until they arrived home on 14 ½ Street. They soon noticed the Jeep Liberty was outside their residence. When the husband opened the front door the three men allegedly attacked him. The wife was also struck after she went outside to assist her husband. During the struggle the glass storm door broke and severely injured the husband’s arm. The three men fled the scene.  The couple’s cell phones were not working and they had to walk to Huck’s to call 911.

Troopers are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the three white men or any information concerning the blue Jeep Liberty.  All three men are believed to be between the ages of 25-30.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Indiana State Police at 1-800-852-3970.  Anyone with information can remain anonymous.

Dr. Bucshon’s Work Invaluable to HIP 2.0 Efforts

0

Governor Mike Pence announced this week that Indiana received a waiver from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to expand the state’s successful Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) through HIP 2.0, an innovative, consumer-driven plan that reforms traditional Medicaid and expands health coverage to 350,000 low-income, uninsured Hoosiers.

Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, a physician from Southern Indiana, called the agreement a win for Indiana.

“This announcement is a win for our state,” said Bucshon. “I spent my career as a healthcare provider caring for patients regardless of their ability to pay. I know that we can do better for our patients than settling for the top-down, one-size-fits-all expansion of traditional Medicaid. Indiana has demonstrated this with the success of Healthy Indiana Plan. I’m happy to see HHS grant Indiana the flexibility to build on our progress and expand access to quality care for 350,000 low-income Hoosiers without insurance. This is about empowering patients to take control of their healthcare decisions and improving their quality of life.”

Bucshon went on to praise the work of Governor Pence to secure the waiver from HHS. “I commend the persistent work of Governor Pence on behalf of Hoosiers. Thanks to his leadership, Indiana will be a model for how states can implement conservative, consumer-driven solutions to innovate and meet the healthcare needs of their citizens.”

Bucshon has long been an opponent of the Affordable Care Act’s expansion of traditional Medicaid.  Instead, he has advocated for the federal government to give states the flexibility to cover their low-income populations. During their “Hoosier Healthcare Tour,” Bucshon and fellow physician and Indiana Ways and Means Chairman, Dr. Tim Brown, took this message across the state.

In the 113th Congress, Bucshon was successful at getting Medicaid reform language using HIP as an example for states in the House Republican Budget. He also urged HHS to grant Indiana a waiver during Congressional hearings on Capitol Hill and through letters to the agency.

Governor Pence applauded Congressman Bucshon’s support of Healthy Indiana Plan and HIP 2.0.

“As a physician and lawmaker, Congressman Bucshon has been a leader on healthcare policy, and his support of our efforts has been invaluable,” said Pence.  “His advocacy of HIP, here in Indiana on his ‘Hoosier Healthcare Tour’ and at the national level working with Congress and HHS, cannot be understated, and I am grateful for his continued support.”

The Governor went on to say, “I look forward to working with Congressman Bucshon as we implement HIP 2.0 and use our innovative, patient-centered ideas as a blueprint for other states to reform Medicaid and cover their low-income, uninsured populations.”

Congressman Larry Bucshon, a physician from Southern Indiana, is serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. In the 114th Congress, Bucshon will serve on the influential House Committee on Energy and Commerce.  The 8th District of Indiana includes all or parts of Clay, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Greene, Knox, Martin, Owen, Parke, Perry, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Sullivan, Vanderburgh, Vermillion, Vigo, and Warrick counties.

Letter Encourages Congress to Provide States with Greater Flexibility, Control and Authority

Indianapolis – Governor Mike Pence led a letter sent today to Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell urging the Congress to work with governors to provide states with greater flexibility, control and authority in a number of important issue areas, such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, energy, environment and employment.  Governor Pence was joined by 24 other governors from across the nation in signing the letter.

The letter states, “We are convinced that if states would be provided greater flexibility and control of funds and regulatory authority over a multitude of programs, we would be able to better and more efficiently serve the needs of our citizens.

“I am confident that the cure for what ails this country will come more from our state capitals than it will from our nation’s capital,” said Governor Pence. “In states across this nation, people are getting back to work, budgets are being balanced and critical services are being provided.  As governors, we look forward to working with Congress to make sure states have the ability to innovate and best provide for our citizens.”

IS IT TRUE January 30, 2015

124

IS IT TRUE that Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is moving forward to use taxpayer dollars to legally challenge the interpretation of the Indiana law regarding the residence of appointed members of boards and commissions?…what this really means in full context is that Mayor Winnecke would like to appoint people to boards and commissions governed by the City of Evansville who do not live in the City of Evansville?…while it may be true that the interpretation of the law may come down either way, it is also clear that the will of the Evansville City Council is that these political appointees should be required to be residents of the City of Evansville?…when this issue first surfaced Mayor Winnecke committed to do whatever the City Council voted to do?…he then did an about face and vetoed the resolution that the City Council passed only to see his veto overridden by the City Council?…while limiting the pool of eligible appointees to the residents of the City of Evansville does reduce the pool of qualified candidates, it is pretty arrogant to assume that there are insufficient candidates in a population of over 120,000 to fill a couple of hundred vacancies?…quite frankly the shortage is only 60 or so appointees?…what this looks like is that Mayor Winnecke is working like the dickens to defy the will of the City Council and thus the will of the people?…it narrows the gene pool to exclude people from other counties, states, and even countries too, so our suggestion is that Mayor Winnecke should keep his word and find candidates among the residents of Evansville and only in extreme cases where none are available should someone who does not reside here be appointed?

IS IT TRUE yesterday’s economic development announcement by Mayor Winnecke regarding the claim that Evansville is “in the running” for a 400 job UNNAMED manufacturing facility against an UNIDENTIFIED town in Tennessee seemed a bit desperate?…it is bad enough to call a sand flipping press conference for the vapor hotel knowing full well that the financing was not in order, but making an announcement about a competition with an outcome that is still is doubt is simply pathetic?…this was nothing more than a manufactured press release with the intent to distract the public from the departure of GAGE president Debbie Dewey and the CVB ballfields manager on the same day?

IS IT TRUE that there was no press release coming from Mayor Winnecke to announce the departure of Shamrock Engineering from Evansville for the open arms of Oakland City?…while attracting a new shiny business from afar may grab more headlines it is providing support and exemplary service to the existing business base that is the foundation for sustainable growth?…this administration and the one before it do not seem to understand the value of keeping the natives content?

IS IT TRUE the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that a judge sentenced former Evansville Redevelopment Commissioner John ‘Jay’ Carter to four years in federal prison?… the former Commissioner must serve three years of supervised release after his sentence, as well as a $1,100 fine?…last October, a federal jury convicted Carter on all 11 counts in a money laundering case?…Carter was accused of laundering cash from marijuana dealers to purchase two businesses and the charges also included structuring money into a bank and two counts of providing false testimony or false documents to federal agents and a grand jury?…in two short years he may be eligible for release and ready to seek another political apointment?

IS IT TRUE that Governor Pence has come to his senses and decided to shelve his plans to have an official state news agency?…while we applaud this decision as much as we applauded Mayor Winnecke’s epiphany that Earthcare Energy was not a good deal, we recommend that our readers do not forget that the Governor wanted to do this?…this move more than any reflected the mind of Governor Pence?…the reversal was a reaction to public response to starting a state sponsored dispenser of propaganda?

IS IT TRUE the United States Senate on Thursday voted 62-36 to build the Keystone XL pipeline, delivering Republicans the first legislative victory of their new majority?…nine Democrats joined with Republicans in voting to approve the $8 billion project, five votes short of the two-thirds majority that would be needed to override a promised veto from President Obama?…the nine Democrats who voted to approve Keystone were Sens. Michael Bennet (Colo.), Tom Carper (Del.), Bob Casey (Pa.), Joe Donnelly (Ind.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Claire McCaskill (Mo.), Jon Tester and Mark Warner (Va.)?…Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who is traveling, missed the vote, as did Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who is recovering from eye surgery?…it will be interesting to see what happens when the President uses his mighty pen to Veto this bill?…the spin following the imminent Veto will be even more enlightening?
