Good morning,
I am confused about this morning. I spoke to you Friday morning, and you were 99% sure that the DMD was applying for a TIGER grant. You seemed excited about the project.
This morning, you reported that the grant application is scrapped, you only had a 2% chance of getting the funds and you met with neighborhood stakeholders to tell them. When did that happen?
I spoke with Marianne from Donnelly’s office this morning. She said she would never have told you 2% or any percentage. She recounted her conversation with you last week as positive. Who did you talk to that told you that we had no chance?
Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley
3rd Ward City Council
IS IT TRUE hats off to the Honorable Judge Les Shively for receiving  clearance from the Indiana Supreme Court to have Thursday’s Residence Ordinance hearing televised on WNIN-PBS9?  …this special en banc session made it possible for seven judges to sit in the Civic Center Council chambers to hear the administration attorney Bob Burkart and City Council Attorney Scott Danks make impressive legal arguments concerning the city residence ordinance?  …we can’t wait to hear what the Judges ruling in this case will be?  …we feel this issue will be decided on law and not politics?
IS IT TRUE our most recent “Readers Poll” voters believe that Cheryl Musgrave is indeed a true Republican by a vote of 95 to 15 (86% vote margin)?
IS IT TRUE Pollock Avenue Southeast side streets are in much disrepair?  …these side streets should be in good shape since sewer lines have been installed over the last couple of years?  …we don’t understand why the city has failed to re-install the sidewalks and curbing and do some needed street paving in that area in a timely manner?  …it looks like a $160 million dollars doesn’t buy much anymore?
IS IT TRUE if you want see political patronage at its best please venture down to S. E. First Street in the Historic District?  … we wonder why Winnecke campaign signs are so popular in the 500 and 600 blocks of that  area?  …. could it be that the Mayor donated $150,000 from the City Engineers Street Repair Fund to help subsidize the Historical street lighting project in that area?  …we hear that people living in the other 26 blocks of the downtown TIF District are very upset?  …. they feel the city should had subsidized period lighting or use the fund to pave city streets in their area?
IS IT TRUE we hear the Vanderburgh County Party Chairman was selected  the 2015 “Republican Of The Year” award winner? …we would had thought the awards committee would have selected Mayor Lloyd Winnecke as the 2015 “Republican Of The Year” winner?  …we heard that Weaver and Mosby received 4 write-in votes each for this award?

Awards $65,000 to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry
Indianapolis – First Lady Karen Pence today hosted the second annual fundraising luncheon to support the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation, which strives to support and recognize communities and organizations that promote the well-being of Hoosier children and their families.
“We started the Foundation to shine a light on the people and organizations that are working every day to benefit our children and Hoosier families. Our hope is that by promoting these organizations, we can help them further their efforts and reach more families across Indiana,†said First Lady Karen Pence.
“The First Lady’s Luncheon is a culmination of our efforts and serves as the primary fundraising event for the Foundation,†said the First Lady. “I am so pleased and honored that Judy O’Bannon, former First Lady of Indiana, was able to be a part of this special day.â€
The First Lady’s Luncheon, “Hoosier Home Grown,†held at the JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis, was attended by more than 600 people, including statewide elected officials, Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann, State Treasurer Kelly Mitchell State Auditor Suzanne Crouch, and Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz.
“This event and the fundraising success we have had with the Foundation is a testament to the hard work and the amazing talents of my board of directors who guide our efforts at the Foundation. I especially want to thank the committee of women who planned the luncheon and made this dream a reality,†said the First Lady.
The luncheon was filled with many surprises for guests, including entertainment provided by 6th Season Winner of The Voice, Josh Kaufman, and a check presentation to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry. First Lady Karen Pence presented a check to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry in the amount of $65,000 to Emily Weikert Bryant, the organization’s Executive Director. Mrs. Pence will be donating potted flowers from the luncheon to Indiana FFA as well as Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
“I’m thrilled to be working with this important Hoosier charity, and I’m so thankful for the work of Feeding Indiana’s Hungry in the lives of Hoosiers across the state,†said First Lady Karen Pence. “On behalf of the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation’s Board and Luncheon Committee, we are extremely thankful for the generous hearts of today’s sponsors and attendees that make it possible to present the major grant award of $65,000 to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry. I am confident they will continue to touch and bless many Hoosier children and families.â€
“We are so grateful for the support and work of First Lady Karen Pence toward ending hunger in Indiana,†said Emily Weikert Bryant, Executive Director of Feeding Indiana’s Hungry. “With the help of the First Lady’s Charitable Foundation our network will be better able to serve the more than 1.1 million Hoosiers who rely on food banks, pantries, soup kitchens, and other programs so that hard working Hoosier families, seniors and children have enough food on their tables to live a healthy and productive life.â€
Each year the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation selects a different charity as a major grant recipient to highlight at the First Lady’s Luncheon. The Foundation also awards smaller grants throughout the year.
“We are very excited to soon begin announcing the recipients of our grants for 2015. There are so many worthwhile organizations doing wonderful work across Indiana. In 2014, we were thrilled to award grants to 83 organizations and charities across Indiana impacting 68 counties. It was an honor and a pleasure to be able to support them and to share their good stories through the Foundation,†the First Lady said.
Photos from today’s event can be found attached.
About the First Lady’s Luncheon
The Indiana First Lady’s Luncheon, which serves as the primary fundraiser for the Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation, is modeled after the U.S. First Lady’s Luncheon held every year in Washington, D.C. and includes similar features, such as a surprise guest entertainer, center pieces, linens and bags made specifically for the event, and a showing of bipartisan support.

Indiana is the only state to have a First Lady’s Luncheon. Planning for next year’s event, which is expected to take place in March, is already underway.  Grant applications may be submitted atIndianaFirstLadysCharitableFoundation.org/Apply-for-Grant.

Indianapolis – Governor Mike Pence today signed House Enrolled Act 1182, which establishes the Fire & Public Safety Academy Training System to advance training for fire personnel and provides fire and emergency personnel with access to high-quality, cost-effective, and voluntary training opportunities. The Governor signed the legislation, which was part of his legislative agenda, at the 88th Annual Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) International in downtown Indianapolis.
“Better training for firefighters and emergency personnel equates to better service and safety for Hoosiers,†said Governor Pence. “This bill is about each and every Hoosier in this state, who will benefit from the consistent and uniform training of the courageous men and women serving as firefighters and public safety professionals across Indiana. I applaud State Representative Randy Frye, a firefighter himself, for authoring this legislation and the men and women of the Indiana General Assembly for backing it with unanimous bipartisan support.â€
The State Fire and Public Safety Academy Training System was developed in consultation with The Indiana Fire Alliance, career and volunteer firefighters, fire instructors, fire chiefs, emergency management directors, emergency medical professionals and others who attended a summit in October of 2013. From this summit emerged key elements that are incorporated in the Fire & Public Safety Academy Training System established in HEA 1182. Those elements include: consistent standardized foundational skills training; quality assurance to ensure standardized curricula; and continued training at the district training centers which have been in operation since 2005.
HEA 1182 received unanimous support in the House and Senate and is revenue neutral for the biennial budget.
Notice is hereby given that the Board of Commissioners of Vanderburgh County will hold a special meeting on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. in Room 301 of the Civic Center Complex located at 1 N.W. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. for the purpose of awarding a contract with respect to quotes sought for the Burdette Park slide repair project.

Iconic rock band Mötley Crüe announced today the details of their final addition of North American dates. The select new shows will take place in October and December as part of the band’s two year Final Tour cycle. Mötley Crüe’s touring career will conclude on New Year’s Eve, December 31 at Staples Center in their hometown of Los Angeles where the band’s career began 34 years ago.
Says bassist Nikki Sixx: “The demand to add more shows in North America has been overwhelming. The fans have spoken so we’ve been trying to find time for more dates in addition to the international dates on the schedule this year. We want to say goodbye to as many fans as possible so we added these shows around the holidays. No
better way to spend them than with the people who have supported us over all these years.â€
The new North American shows announced today will see the band visit cities such as Little Rock, AR and Lincoln, NE in the US and Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon in Canada. All dates will be taking place in arenas exclusively to ensure fans get to experience the full show production of the Final Tour. Tickets for the newly announced dates go on sale beginning Friday, April 24.
Leading-up to today’s announcement, Mötley Crüe gave fans an opportunity to voice their thoughts on what additional cities they would like to see the band play. Fans shared their messages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #DemandtheCrue and could see the progress of the conversation via a heat map that was updated daily at: Motley.com/DemandTheCrue
After thirty-four years performing together, the 2015 leg of the Final Tour includes shows all across the globe. Next up, Mötley Crüe will head over to Australia and New Zealand in May for their last ever shows there. Since the announcement the band has been touring tirelessly to say goodbye to fans around the world, most recently playing their final shows in Japan.
The 2014 leg of the Final Tour was one of last year’s top grossing tours, selling close to a million tickets across 72 cities and grossing more than $45 million. “Mötley Crüe’s Final Tour has been a massive global success and a true testament to the popularity of this legendary rock band,†says Rick Franks, Live Nation’s Regional President of North American Concerts. “New Year’s Eve 2015 will mark the end of an era in rock history but there’s no doubt that Mötley Crüe’s music will influence generations of artists for years to come.â€

The Evansville Bar Association will celebrate Law Week this year with activities that reflect on this year’s Law Day theme: “Magna Carta: Symbol of Freedom Under Law.â€
April 23, 2015
MOCK TRIALS: The annual mock trials for area high school students will convene on Thursday, April 23, at 8:00 AM, at Vanderburgh Circuit and Superior Courts. Eight teams of students from Vanderburgh County high schools will participate in the program, serving as prosecuting and defense attorneys, witnesses, and jurors. EBA member attorneys act as advisors to the teams. Eight sitting judges and magistrates will preside over the cases throughout the Courthouse. This event has been a tradition for over 35 years.
STUDENT LUNCH:  The national Law Day theme, “Magna Carta: Symbol of Freedom Under Law†will be the focus of a pizza party for approximately 250 area high school students (Noon, CK Newsome Center), sponsored by local Evansville Law firms, following the Mock Trials. This year’s program will include a trivia game, which will pit the tables of 8 students against each other, answering questions about issues related to the theme. The winning tables will receive gift cards to Shoe Carnival, Thortons Gas Cards or Midget Link Miniature Golf passes.
April 24, 2015
LAW DAY CELEBRATION:  The annual Law Day Dinner attended by members of the Evansville Bar Association will be held on Friday, April 24. It will begin with a traditional Parade of Attorneys, at 5:45PM. Attorneys will process from the park at 4th and Main to the steps of the Vanderburgh County Old Courthouse. Approximately 200 persons are expected to attend the celebration, where the pretigious James Bethel Gresham Freedom Award will be presented.
Law Day was first proclaimed by President Eisenhower in 1957 to call attention to our great heritage of liberty preserved by the law. The activities are planned to call to the mind of every citizen both the principles and importance of the practice of American law and justice. -end-
