POLITICALLY SUMMER CAMP BY TOM PURCELL

Dear Mom and Dad,
It’s been almost three weeks since you dropped me off at summer camp. You better come get me ’cause I’m in big trouble.

On my first day, I was feeling homesick. So I found a piece of wood and began carving it with my Swiss Army knife the way Daddy showed me.
Well, one of the counselors yelled at me to “freeze.” He took my knife, then patted me down. Then he marched me off to the camp director. The director said, who did I think I was bringing a lethal weapon, a symbol of pain and death, into her camp? Then she gave me a “verbal warning.”

One day, Billy Johnson and I got bored, so we went into the woods to play. We turned a couple of branches into guns and made bullet noises as we fought the bad guys. Sure enough, we got marched off to the director. The director said there’s so much war in the world because boys like us are taught to “celebrate” it from an early age. She said we should be ashamed of ourselves and that we were lucky she wasn’t sending us home.
So I figured I better stay out of trouble. But then I got in trouble at lunch. I began to say grace out loud, just like you taught me, and I was carted off to the director again.
She wanted to know who I thought I was imposing my beliefs on others. She said my actions showed how “ignorant” and “insensitive” Americans are to other cultures; then she gave me another warning.

Believe it or not, things got even worse. We were weaving baskets and I was sitting next to Mary Allison, the prettiest girl I ever saw.
“Mary,” I said, “you’re so pretty you make me smile from ear to ear.”
Well, sure enough, I was carted off to the director again. She said I really crossed the line this time. She said my behavior was not only “boorish,” but against the law. She said I should be sued for sexual harassment.
By the way, what is a “gender terrorist”?

I was pretty uptight by that point. But I was able to forget about it when we played kickball. I kicked the ball really far and I got a grand slam. I was so happy, I said, “We win! We win!”

Sure enough, that got me another trip to the director’s office. This time she said I was “insensitive” to the players on the other team. She said I hurt their “self-esteem.” Then she asked me if you and Daddy are Republicans.

By this point, I figured I’d better just keep to myself. So I got a jar out of the cafeteria and went into the woods. I caught a bumblebee in the jar and put some flowers in there to keep him happy. I was poking holes in the top to let fresh air in when I was hauled off to the director again.

This time, she was really mad. She said, who did I think I was giving a “death sentence” to an innocent bee? She said I had no respect for the Earth and that it was people like me who were responsible for climate change. She said I’ll be lucky if the world doesn’t end before I collect Social Security.

She said I better get with the program — that there is no place in this world anymore for “thoughtless,” “restless,” “insensitive” boys like me. She said if I mess up one more time, she was kicking me out of the camp.
By the way, what is Ritalin?

Anyhow, you better plan on coming back to get me. Tomorrow everybody is going for a hike in the woods. And I already picked some flowers to give to Mary Allison.
Your son,
Tommy

IS IT TRUE AUGUST 13, 2015

37

IS IT TRUE we just learned that DMD Director Kelley Coures did it again?  …Mr. Coures just awarded a couple of financially well off people a $50,000 Facade Grant for their soon to be opened Bar and Restaurant located in the Haynie’s Corner area?  …we wonder if any of these financially well heeled people donated to Mayor Winnecke’s re-election campaign?

IS IT TRUE when Russ Lloyd Jr. was Mayor, it’s been alleged he inherited Million of Dollars from a  “Special Fund” from Mayor Frank McDonald Jr.?  …when Mayor Wienzapfel took office from Russ Lloyd Jr this entire million dollar plus  “Special Fund” was spent?  …former Mayor and City Controller Russ Lloyd  Jr. is now in charged of posting the accounting  transactions for the taxpayers of this City for the last 3 1/2 years?

IS IT TRUE we heard that the Mayors Chief of Staff told the City Controller Lloyd not to attend Council meetings? …could  the reason be that he doesn’t want Lloyd to attend Council meetings because he doesn’t want Councilman John Friend to ask him pointed questions about the $4 million dollars worth  of City Employee unpaid Health Care bills?

IS  IT TRUE that Channel 25-Tri-State Home Page yesterday have taken down all references to Cheryl Musgrave from its website?

IS IT TRUE we hear that Channel 25-Tri-State Home Page is refusing to give anyone a electronic copy of the story about Mrs. Musgraves desire to purchase a vacant lot in her neighborhood without a subpoena?

IS IT TRUE its alleged the actual emails written by Cheryl Musgrave sent to Carolyn Ruck are above reproach?  …its alleged this story published by Channel 25-Tri-State Home Page was created literally from Rusk’s recollection of events and speculation written in her two memos?

IS IT TRUE we highly recommend that you turn on Channel 44 News for professional, accurate and non bias local news? …News Co-Anchors Chris Cerenelli and Amanda Decker are really doing an impressive job in reporting the local news? …Chad Evans is doing a super job reporting the local Weather?

IS IT TRUE that Mayor Winnecke’s main political attack dog Wayne Parke posted the attached comments in the CCO yesterday?  ..”.CCO Breaking News??????   Give me a Break!! The CCO is so one sided in their support of Gail Riecken it is ridiculous. The CCO is always trying to make something out of nothing.  Note the press release below that was done a couple days ago regarding the Mayoral Debate”.

IS IT TRUE Parke also posted “WINNECKE CAMPAIGN STATEMENT ON RIECKEN DEBATE REQUESTS” –“Mayor Winnecke is proud of the record he’s built over the past three and a half years, and shares the belief among many citizens that Evansville must continue down the path of growth and revitalization. We welcome the opportunity to debate these issues and look forward to working out the details in the days ahead.”

FOOT NOTE:  The CCO hasn’t received an official press releases from the Mayors office for the last couple of years.  If we did, we would had been glad to post them without opinion, editing or bias?  We are puzzled why the Mayor can’t speak for himself about the wonderful things  Mr. Parke says he done to enhance the quality of life for the average hardworking people of this community  during the last 3 1/2 years?

Taxpayers of this community are angry with the status quo and they have a strong desire for authenticity in our political leaders.  As they said in the 60s, “the times are changing”

We can’t wait for the Mayor to explain to the voters if there were any political motives concerning DMD, ERC or Brownfield Corporation purchasing about $1 million dollars on vacant and dilapidated property on North Main Street, the awarding of 2014 facade grants, purchasing dilapidated property in the Haynie’s Corner area and either giving them away or selling them well below appraisal price, awarding of contractual professional service contracts, the rationale of DMD/ERC giving the proprietors of the McCurdy Hotel a $600,000 (paid by the taxpayers) parking lot for $1 dollar, the awarding of grants and extremely low interest loans to start up businesses located in the Arts District and downtown, low interest loans and grants for the development of condos downtown and the actual amount of money given by the City to the dormant Alhambra Theater restoration project thus far?

Trial court erred in denying dad custody vs. contemptuous mom

0

Dave Stafford for www.theindianalawyer.com

The Indiana Court of Appeals bluntly reversed denial of a father’s petition for primary custody of his children, finding their mother undermined him and deprived him of court-ordered visitation.

In In re the Marriage of: Christopher Neal Maddux v. Suzanne Marie Maddux, 49A02-1409-DR-618, the court noted a record in which mother made multiple unsubstantiated abuse allegations, refused to turn the children over for visitation, and ultimately was found in contempt and ordered to pay some of her ex-husband’s legal fees.

Marion Superior Court denied father’s petition for custody modification, finding father had not proved that a change in custody was in the best interests of the children.

“After entering finding after finding illustrating Mother’s audacious and successful attempts to alienate Father from the Children, the trial court concluded that such conduct ‘does not warrant a change of custody,’” Judge Terry Crone wrote for the panel.

“Simply put, time is running out. These children, ages one and three at the time of the divorce, are now eleven and thirteen. They not only have been deprived of their relationship with Father but also have been relentlessly subjected to Mother’s jaded opinions of him and her egregious and unsubstantiated accusations against him. The overwhelming evidence and extensive findings of fact show a mother who has jeopardized her children’s emotional health in attempting to settle a score with their father,” Crone wrote.

“In ruling on Father’s petition for contempt, the trial court concluded that Mother had ‘irreparably harmed [the Children’s] emotional wellbeing.’ … However, in assessing the Children’s best interests, the court inexplicably concluded the opposite. The findings support the trial court’s conclusion of Mother’s irreparable harm to the Children; they do not support the trial court’s determination concerning best interests. The trial court clearly erred in concluding that the Children’s best interests do not warrant a change in custody.”

In addition to remanding for judgment in father’s favor on his petition for modification of custody, the court also ordered a new calculation of child support obligations and credit for support father overpaid.
