For the last month the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office had been searching for Mr. Christopher James Norman. Mr. Norman was on probation for Dealing in a Synthetic Drug prior to having his probation revoked in early June. On Thursday, July 16, 2015 at approximately 8:33pm a sheriff’s deputy observed Mr. Norman standing outside an apartment in the 5400 block of Carriage Drive.

The sheriff’s deputy requested additional units respond to the scene, but Mr. Norman entered the residence prior to the arrival of assisting deputies. Sheriff’s deputies knocked on the door of the residence, but no one would answer. A key was obtained, but when the door was unlocked deputies discovered that the occupants had blocked entryway with furniture.

Sheriff’s deputies and Evansville police officers then surrounded the building and requested theEvansville Police Department swat team for support. After about an hour, contact was made with Mr. Norman who crawled out the front window of the apartment and surrendered. Mr. Norman’s girlfriend, Ms. Kristen Munoz, was inside the apartment and was also taken into custody.

“GIT ’ER DONE” By Jim Redwine

GIT ’ER DONE!

If you need something important done properly and fast, ask a person with too much to do already. I called my friend Becky Higgins who, among many other volunteer duties, is President of the Posey County Historical Society. I do not know why such public-spirited people as Becky give so much of their time, talent and financial resources, but I sure am glad they do.

When the City of Mt. Vernon generously decided to return the beautiful antique courthouse furnishings to the county, I called Becky who had started planning the restoration before I called. She told me it is on the Society’s agenda for the next meeting.

The City will have the judge’s bench, the attorney’s podium, the bar (railing) and three pews at the new city work area where they will need to be repaired, reconstructed, refinished and then moved to and installed in the courthouse. Posey County historian, Ray Kessler, says that’s where they used to be. I agree and postulate they were originally installed in the 1817 Springfield, Posey County Courthouse.

Should you wish to help Becky and the Society with this project I encourage you to contact them. Perhaps you can repair or refinish fine oak furniture, or maybe, help move and install it or a contribution that’s always appreciated,

“Bread is made for laughter and wine gladdens life and MONEY answers everything.”

Ecclesiastes, Ch. 10, v. 19.
