Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to Give Keynote Remarks on Child Nutrition at Center for American Progress

0

TOMORROW, Sept. 1, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will give keynote remarks at the Center for American Progress in Washington, DC. This event is part of a significant effort by Secretary Vilsack highlighting the success of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act and its role in fighting childhood obesity and hunger. After his remarks, Secretary Vilsack will hold a conversation with CAP President Neera Tanden and take questions from the audience. As children get ready to go back to school, Congress is returning from recess and will soon debate the reauthorization of federal child nutrition programs, which are reducing health risks for children nationwide. Currently, more than 30 million children receive at least one nutritious meal every school day through USDA’s National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. New school nutrition standards are currently being met by over 95 percent of schools, resulting in increased access to healthier meals with more whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and less sugar, fat, and sodium.

THE HOMETOWN THUNDERBOLTS CONTINUE CENTRAL THEME IN BUILDING THEIR TEAM ANOTHER HOMEGROWN STATE OF INDIANA TALENT TAKES HIS PLACE WITH NEW ‘BOLTS FORT WAYNE NATIVE MICHAEL KELLEY SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED BOOSTING ATTACK

With the Evansville ThunderBolts training camp fully underway this week at their hockey home of Swonder Ice Arena, the freshly-minted members of the elite junior hockey league, the NA3HL, continue to bolster their inaugural player roster for the rapidly-approaching 2015-16 season.

On this date, ThunderBolts General Manager/Head Coach Scott Fankhouser has announced that swift-skating left wing MICHAEL KELLEY has signed-on with the Evansville club and is on the ice this week for the club’s first full week of training camp sessions. Today’s signing of KELLEY represents the ‘Bolts second player procurement of this week as earlier in the week, the team welcomed and introduced defenseman BRIAN CRINK to the Evansville junior hockey organization.

KELLEY becomes the latest homegrown Indiana hockey standout to cast his elite junior hockey lot with the ThunderBolts. Hailing from Fort Wayne, the 5-9, 170lb speedy forward will be one of the team’s younger talents at the age of 17. In the past two seasons, KELLEY has been a supreme catalyst at the high level of AAA midget, having flourished with the Midget Minor (16U) Tier 1 team. In 2014-15, he authored 20-points in 54-games on 10- goal, 10-assists; delivering 2-PPG. His 127-PIM were a testament to his fiercely on-ice competitive nature.

KELLEY has made an indelible impression on ThunderBolts GM/Coach Fankhouser. “I am excited to add Mike to our team as he is a fast playmaking forward who has a knack for finding the net. He will be one of our younger players but his offensive impact will be felt. He has played high level AAA hockey for the last two seasons and is ready to make the jump to juniors. It is always our goal to help move players on and develop them to their full potential and I can’t wait to help him achieve his goals. Mike is another Fort Wayne resident and keeps with our goal of creating a great training ground for young Indiana hockey players.”

MICHAEL KELLEY has arrived and is on the ice this week for the ThunderBolts training camp workouts.
