CITY COUNTY OBSERVER ANNOUNCES NO SUBSCRIPTION FEE INCREASE FOR 2015

42
IS IT TRUE we promised to make an announcement concerning a subscription charge for City County Observer in 2015?…because of you, our readers and our advertisers the CCO had a phenomenal year in 2014?  ….in 2014 we were able to live within our economic means, meaning that we started the year with no debt, ended the year with no debt, and paid all of our bills on time?…if the City of Evansville conducted itself in a similar manner financially as the CCO there would be no need for them to make any rate or tax increases?…the City of Evansville would also not be dreading the coming day when their credit card limit is reached?…it is with extreme pleasure that we announce that the subscription rate for the CCO for 2015 is exactly ZERO (0) because we lived within our economic means since the day we started the business?
IS IT TRUE that year after year the City County Observer has increased its readership metrics?   …last year CCO posted a record 1.8 million page reviews? …because we have practiced conservative and sound business principals in order to provide our readers with interesting and breaking news that the local Main Stream Media has no interest in covering we have established a creative and cutting edge that traditional newspapers once had?…it is the fearless reporting of facts with that are ignored or not made available to traditional outlets that draws readers from all over the world who have an interest in Evansville back to the CCO?

IS IT TRUE we also promised that we will be  announcing additional adjustments in the future direction of the CCO for 2015?…we are pleased to announce that we shall be adding Personal Advice articles,  Comics,  Wine Review,  Horoscopes,  Applause by “Lifestyle LIL”,  Food and Cooking and local Entertainment Guide to name a few new additions to the CCO beginning next month?

IS IT TRUE don’t be surprised to learn that sometime in early 2015 that the City County Observer shall be launching a free in-print newspaper community newspaper that shall be distributed in area retail establishments.  …the only question that needs to be resolved is will this free in print community newspaper be a weekly, bi-monthly or monthly publication?  …that we shall also continue to publish the CCO on-line daily?
IS IT TRUE we  would like to respectably ask that you recommend to your business contacts that they consider advertising with the CCO? …we would appreciate that you have your business connections or friends contact Mollie at mdarke07@yahoo.com to inquire about our advertising packages?…thanks to you and our advertisers we are able to provide the citizens of this community with  a reliable alternative source of news with a unique fearless Editorial perspective at no cost to you our readers?

RIECKEN ACCEPTS INVITATION TO ATTEND VETERANS COUNCIL “CALL TO ASSEMBLE”

2

Dear Commander Mark Acker

As a wife, who’s husband was a Navy Veteran and served three (3) consecutive  tours in Vietnam, it’s an honor for me to accept your invitation to speak at the Veteran’s Council of Vanderburgh County’s “Call to Assemble” event on September 23 held at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

When our county called upon the brave men and women to serve their Country for the cause of Freedom, they did.  Today our Veterans are calling our local political candidates to  “Assemble” at the Veteran Memorial Coliseum and I consider it  to be a privilege and honor to participate in this event.

I also share the Veteran’s Council of Vanderburgh County’s  commitment to encourage honest, open governance, with transparency and better accountability to our beloved City.  As your State Representative, I have work tirelessly on issues that effect our Veterans and shall continue, if I’m elected Mayor of Evansville.

I strongly feel the “Call To Assemble” will give me the opportunity to discuss the present and the future of our great city in an open and honest dialogue.

I look forward to attending this event and excited about discussing the real issues with my opponents.

Sincerely,

Gail Riecken
Mayoral Candidate For the Great City Of Evansville

USI to kick off week of 50th Anniversary celebration

0

The University of Southern Indiana is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015. The past five decades have seen a remarkable transformation from Indiana State University Evansville to USI, a thriving independent public institution with a reputation for excellence in education and community engagement.

USI has been celebrating its anniversary with a series of events throughout the year that commemorate the University’s history, but also focusing on the future, as USI continues to grow and expand to meet the ever-changing needs of the region and its students. This coming week, September 14-20, the week of the University’s founding, is USI’s 50th Anniversary Celebration Week and will feature a multitude of events, including a capstone event on September 19.

Founders’ Day

One of the highlights of the week will be USI’s Founders’ Day Luncheon on Tuesday, September 15, which will include a proclamation by Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, state legislators, USI Board of Trustees members and members of the former Southern Indiana Higher Education, Inc. (SIHE), which was instrumental in the University’s founding.

Following the Founders’ Day event an all-campus photo will be taken on the Quad, at the heart of the USI campus, followed by the serving of birthday cake. This event is free and open to the public, with USI logo-wear encouraged.

USI Documentary

A new documentary, Shaping the Future: The University of Southern Indiana, highlighting the University’s first 50 years will be premiered from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, September 16, in the David L. Rice Library Room 0017. Repeat showings will take place throughout the week and are listed on the full calendar of events. All showings are free and open to the public. The documentary will air at
8 p.m. Thursday, September 17, on WNIN.

Reunions

Student Development Programs and Alumni and Volunteer Services are sponsoring an AMIGO reunion. For the past 40 years, USI AMIGOS have served as student orientation leaders who help new students and their families make the transition to the University. Over 500 former AMIGOS have been invited to return to campus from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, September 18, in the Second Floor Reading Room of the David L. Rice Library. Hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be served and historic AMIGO memorabilia and photos will be on display. This event is open to all former USI AMIGOS. Those who wish to attend should RSVP to Alumni and Volunteer Services at 812-464-1924 or alumni@usi.edu.

The Multicultural Center (MCC) will host a three-day-long reunion packed with entertainment, food and festivities to celebrate the program’s 20th anniversary. Alumni will compete on the basketball court against current students. Past winners of USI’s Live at the Apollo, a campus-wide talent revue, and members, past and present, of MCC’s gospel choir, Designed by Grace, will perform in the new Performance Center, followed by a dance in the Performance Center Lobby.

Party of the Decades!

On Saturday, September 19, USI will culminate the week with the Party of the Decades!, a formal celebration in the Physical Activities Center (PAC) featuring live music from the Atlanta Allstars. Tickets are required for this sold-out event.

Tours, art exhibits and more will round out the week of events. A full schedule of events can be found online at USI.edu/50/events/celebration-week.

IS IT TRUE SEPTEMBER 14, 2015

21

IS IT TRUE when we called on our Veterans “TO ASSEMBLE” to fight wars on our behalf to insure our freedoms they did?  …our Veterans are now are “CALLING US TO ASSEMBLE” on SEPTEMBER 23, 2015 at 5 O’clock at the Veteran Memorial Coliseum to attend a nonpartisan political event inviting all canidates listed on City General Election ballot to speak?  …its time for us to heed the “Call To Assemble”?

IS IT TRUE in the past if your ran for public office the first question that the candidates were ask “ARE YOU A VETERAN”?  …it seems like this is the last question the voters ask today?

IS IT TRUE we wonder why City Council Candidates Tom Shoulders,  Justin Elpers, Jonathan Weaver,  Jim Brinkmeyer, Missy Mosby, Dan McGinn hasn’t responded to the invitation to attend the VETERANS hosted event “CALL TO ASSEMBLE”?

IS IT TRUE it’s being alleged that from the day Winnecke walked into the Mayor’s office he filled many positions that were perversely left vacant by  our former Mayor?

IS IT TRUE since City Council has required Mayor Winnecke to be financially accountable, he now is forced to come before the City Council to request a loan from the Riverboat and Rainy Day moneys to the tune of $8 million in order to make City employee payroll?

IS IT TRUE that we hear that DMD Director Kelley Coures recently posted on his personal FACE BOOK  account that Missy Mosby and Jonathan Weaver are most dedicated City Council members he ever work with?  …all we can say is “REALLY”?

Discusses City’s Fiscal Management And Priorities For Her Administration

Evansville, IN – Mayoral candidate Gail Riecken hosted two Town Hall meetings, one at North Park Library and one at McCullough Library.  She discussed her background, why she got in the race, the city’s fiscal situation and her priorities as Mayor.

Gail said “I decided to run for Mayor because I had been hearing about how bad the city’s financial situation really was and started looking into it myself. What I saw made me realize it was time for new leadership in Evansville,” said Riecken. She continued, “A Mayor must spend our tax dollars wisely, practice smart fiscal policy and make sure there is an open, transparent budgeting process that produces a city budget that reflects our citizens’ needs and priorities. Frankly, Mayor Winnecke has not done that.”

Riecken discussed with the crowd what her priorities would be and how she would do things differently than the Mayor. Things like working to cut the debt and make sure we can cover the city’s expenses, stopping tax dollar giveaways, fixing the budget and creating a more transparent government, creating jobs and eliminating blight, providing for police and firefighters, and fixing our sidewalks and roads.

“The next Mayor of Evansville has to set priorities based on the issues that affect the entire city, not just special interests,” said Riecken. “A lack of transparency and wasteful spending has severly deminished our city’s reserves, increased our debts, and is putting our bond rating at risk, hindering our ability to make needed repairs to sidewalks and roads, combat blight and upgrade and replace equipment for our police and firefighters. As Mayor, looking out for the people of Evansville will be my first priority. I will spend every day fighting for the people of Evansville and working to make our wonderful city stronger.”

Gail Riecken is running for Mayor of Evansville and is a former Evansville City Council woman, Evansville Parks Director, and a current member of the Indiana State House of Representatives. She is a lifelong Evansville resident and has been married for 47 years, has 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
