IS IT TRUE we would like to congratulate  Channel 44 General Manager Jeff Fisher and his talented young staff of news reporters for providing our Community with fresh and accurate news?  …Channel 44 News General Manager Jeff Fisher is giving the so called “established main stream media” types a run for their money?

IS IT TRUE we are hearing that the slogan of Democratic candidate for State Representative seat #77 Brandon Lee Ferguson is getting peoples attention?  …his campaign slogan states the “American made is the only way”?

IS IT TRUE that George Lumley has identified $3 million in funding that could go directly to demolishing homes, repairing sidewalks and incentives to renovate reparable homes?  …that this funding is new money from the River Boat fund and the expected value of properties that Brownfields Corp. is asking the City and County to give them?  …that the Brownfields  Corp. will do some demolition but intend to use the funds for land banking?  …that their idea of land banking is actually land control?  …that they want the taxpayer to continue to fund their “investment” activity of deciding who owns or develops the properties they chose to buy or acquire from money given to them by the county taxpayers?

IS IT TRUE that the new City Council is looking for new City Attorney?  … the next President of the Evansville City Council Missy Mosby, D-2nd Ward,  declared that the position will be contract-based and the City Council Attorney will no longer be classified as a city employee?  …Mosby also declares that all applicants must submit their resume, qualifications and proposals to the City Clerks’ office by noon Dec. 15?  …the application must be sealed and include the rates and fees of the applicant?

IS IT TRUE a four-term Elkhart County Prosecutor said Monday that he will seek the Republican nomination to be the State’s next Attorney General?  …yesterday Curtis Hill  Jr disclosed his intentions to run for this position and announced he is forming a campaign committee to consider a run?  … that County Prosecutor Hill states he has more than 30 County Prosecutors and numerous police and law enforcement officials have endorsed him for this position?  …we wonder if our popular Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Nick Hermann was one of the 30 County Prosecutors that endorse him?

IS IT TRUE we predict that Vanderburgh County Republication Party can now deliver the votes needed to help elect any serious candidate on the State GOP  ticket? …Evansville/Vanderburgh County is now considered a safe Republican strong hold for many years to come because of the results of the last Mayoral election?

IS IT TRUE we give special thanks to the Vanderburgh County Democratic Party Chairman, local Union leaders,  City Council members Missy Mosby and Jonathan Weaver, and the political power brokers of the 4th and 6th Wards for making Evansville/Vanderburgh County a safe Republican strong hold for many years to come?

TPH HOCKEY AND THUNDERBOLTS PRESENCE IN EVANSVILLE CONTINUES GROWTH SURGE TOTAL PACKAGE HOCKEY NAMES RYAN GAYSO ASSISTANT HOCKEY DIRECTOR FOR EYHA HOCKEY IN EVANSVILLE EXPANDING THROUGH “GRASS ROOTS” FOCUS FOR THE EYHA

EVANSVILLE, IN— Total Package Hockey (TPH), in concert with the Evansville Youth Hockey Association (EYHA) and the Tri-State community’s elite junior hockey team, the NA3HL Evansville ThunderBolts, have announced on this date the appointment of RYAN GAYSO to the position of Assistant Hockey Director in Evansville for the EYHA hockey program.

In his new capacity, Gayso, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be working closely alongside EYHA Director of Hockey, Mark Cody, in advancing and enhancing the presence and profile of the great game of hockey throughout the Evansville community, beginning at the most formative years for our area youth.

Widely recognized and highly-regarded as an exceptional and exemplary instructor and coach, GAYSO, in tandem with Cody, will be focusing on the “Grass Roots” approach and overall total efforts in fostering the growth of the EYHA program in our community. GAYSO’s “Grass Roots” efforts will be focused primarily on “Learn to Play Hockey,” Mites, the house league and house All-Star programs

EYHA Director of Hockey Cody is looking forward to the many outstanding contributions which his new partner in youth hockey will bring to Evansville. “Our youth hockey players in our community will really benefit from Ryan’s passion for our great game of hockey and his ability to teach young players. Ryan’s excellent teaching skills are certain to advance our EYHA hockey program immensely. This is a great day for the EYHA hockey program here in Evansville as we now have with us a top-notch experienced hockey professional armed with extraordinary credentials and who is leaving the youth development program of the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins to become a part of our development program here. I am excited to have Ryan with us and look forward to working with him.”

For his part, GAYSO is thrilled to be coming to the hockey-growing Tri-State area and is anxious to roll-up his sleeves and get to work on everything that is EYHA. “I am more than excited to be moving to my new Evansville address where I can continue to share and impart my passion for introducing our great game of hockey to new, enthusiastic players. In particularly, I look forward to growing the game in the Tri-State area with Coach Cody.”

GAYSO has been involved in the game of hockey his entire life. He started playing our great game at the young and tender age of two. As a goaltender, Ryan climbed through the ranks, ascending from an in-house league all the way to the summit of the collegiate level. He attended Robert Morris U., a private, liberal arts school in the greater Pittsburgh area. With the Colonials, he was a standout member of both the ACHA and NCAA Division I team during his scholar/athlete days. Seemingly making a fashion statement, he gained notoriety by donning bright red

goalie pads throughout his collegiate career, becoming affectionately nicknamed by his teammates “The Red Tendy.” Ryan culminated his senior year and collegiate career by sparking his ACHA Colonials team to the capturing of the conference crown, earning a berth in the ACHA Nationals. He finished his senior season with a stellar .916 SPCT and stingy 2.25 GAA while being named to the CHMA First Team All-Conference. Ryan achieved a BA degree in Media Arts with a concentration in TV/Video Production and a minor in Photography.

Subsequent to his playing career, GAYSO has been under the employ of the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins organization for the past six years, serving as a major youth hockey instructor in many and various capacities including hockey schools and goaltender camps.

Most recently, he was a head instructor for the Mite development League at the brand-new Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.

EVSC Presented the Arc of Indiana Education Award

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) has been honored with the 2015 Education Award by the Arc Of Indiana. The Arc of Indiana’s mission is to empower individuals with disabilities to build relationships, gain independence and achieve their full potential.

The EVSC has been a community partner of the local organization, The Arc of Evansville, for nearly 50 years.  The partnership began in 1957 when The Arc of Evansville partnered with Howard Roosa School, then one of the EVSC’s schools, to establish a vocational training class for boys and girls ages 16 to 21.  This educational offering is believed to be the first class of its kind in the State of Indiana for students with disabilities ages 16 to 21.

Currently, the two organizations work together to provide preschool services for children ages three to five years who exhibit developmental delays or disabilities. The goal of this partnership is for children with developmental disabilities to reduce or eliminate their need for special education services upon entering kindergarten.  This goal is consistently achieved.  Last school year, 59 percent of the children served through the partnership with The Arc of Evansville’s Child Life Center reduced or eliminated their need for special education services.

Paralyzed Woman’s Claim Against Security Guard’s Company Proceeds

Whether a security guard, who shot a woman during an argument while he was on duty, was acting to further his employer’s business when he shot her is a matter that should be decided by a judge or jury, the Indiana Supreme Court held Tuesday.

Stacy Knighten sued Donnell Caldwell, his employer Davis Security, and the East Chicago Housing Authority after Caldwell shot Knighten in the back with his handgun after they got into a confrontation near the guard shack of the housing complex where Caldwell worked as a security guard. Knighten and Caldwell were romantically involved. He allowed her to use his car to go to the liquor store and she returned to the housing complex intoxicated. At some point in the confrontation, she damaged the entrance gate to the complex. Knighten was paralyzed from the waist down from the shooting.

At issue in Stacy Knighten v. East Chicago Housing Authority, Individually and d/b/a West Calumet Complex, Davis Security Service, LLC, and Donnell Caldwell, 45S04-1512-CT-686, is whether the trial court and Court of Appeals erred in granting Davis Security’s motion for summary judgment on Knighten’s claim for negligent hiring and supervision.

Her case is premised on the doctrine of respondeat superior, under which Davis Security who is not liable because of its own acts, could be held liable for wrongful acts Caldwell committed within the scope of his employment.

There is conflicting evidence as to what Caldwell’s duties and responsibilities were as security guard. Davis Security asserted that his position at the guard shack included traffic control and he was only allowed to monitor traffic and allow in residents and authorized individuals. Caldwell testified he was only allowed to monitor traffic. Justice Robert Rucker pointed out that Davis Security used the word “included,” and the contract between the housing authority and Davis Security shows that armed security guards would also work to deter theft of property and threatening or unruly conduct.

Caldwell said his supervisor told him he should not be armed, but five months before Caldwell shot Knighten, Davis Security informed him that his handgun permit had expired and he needed proof that it was current.

There are genuine issues of material fact precluding summary judgment, the justices held in reversing the trial court and remanding for further proceedings.

USI MEN Back On The Road This Week

University of Southern Indiana Men’s Basketball returns to the road this week, playing in the Bellarmine Classic Friday and Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky. USI is slated to play Shaw University Friday and St. Catharine College Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m. (CST) each day.

This Week’s USI Men’s Basketball Quick Notes: 

Eagles finish homestand with 5-1 mark. USI went 5-1 in the longest homestand of the season after opening GLVC action with an 89-61 win over McKendree University and an 85-64 victory over the University of Illinois Springfield. Junior guard Bobo Drummond led the Eagles in scoring last week with 18.0 points, while junior guard Jeril Taylor dropped in 14.0 points per contest.

Four in double-digits to start the year.  USI has four players averaging in double-digit to start the 2015-16 campaign. Junior guard Jeril Taylor and freshman guard Alex Stein are currently on top of the USI scoring column with 15.8 and 14.5 points per game, respectively, while junior guard Bobo Drummond is third with 13.5 points per outing and senior forward George Edwards is dropping in 12.8 points per contest.

Reaching career and season-highs last week. Several Eagles reached career and season-highs last week. Senior guard Travis Britt posted a career-high with 15 points and junior guard Drummond dished a career-best seven assists in the win over McKendree. Junior guard Cortez Macklin dropped in a season-high 18 points, while senior forward George Edwards matched a career-high with four assists.

Watson back on the bench. USI Head Coach Rodney Watson will be back on the bench this week after missing the Illinois Springfield contest with minor surgery last Friday. Assistant Coach Brent Owen subbed in for Watson during the GLVC contest.

USI at the Bellarmine Classic. USI is 10-2 in the Bellarmine Classic the tournament began in 2009. Last year, USI lost to eventual 2015 national champion Florida Southern College, 91-80, and defeated Ohio Valley University, 84-83.

USI vs. Shaw. USI and Shaw University will be matching up in men’s basketball for the first time in the history of the two programs.

Shaw in 2015-16. The Bears of Shaw University are 1-6 to start 2015-16 and have lost their last three contests. Shaw started the year with three-straight losses before getting a win over Bluefield State University and starting a second three-game losing streak. The Bears have suffered three of the losses by three-points or less.

USI vs. St. Catharine. USI leads the all-time series with St. Catharine, 2-0, meeting the Patriots for the first time since 2011-12. The Eagles also are 1-0 on a neutral court versus SCC, defeating the Patriots, 65-62, at the Bellarmine Classic in 2011.

St. Catharine in 2015-16. The Patriots of St. Catharine are members of the NAIA and are 3-8 during the 2015-16 campaign. St. Catharine has won once in its last six contests.
