Joe Kiefer Won’t Seek Re-election For Another Term As Vanderburgh County Commissioner

As of the end of this term I will have served 5 years as a Vanderburgh County Commissioner. Over that time we have:
• Completed the University Parkway to Diamond Ave.
• Widened Green River Road to 5 lanes
• Renovated and leased out 100% of the Old Courthouse
• Completed the Burdette Park-USI trail
• Secured naming rights for the Old National Events Plaza
• Among others
I am proud of what we have accomplished.
Over the past year, I have taken over the ownership and day to day operations of Hahn Kiefer Real Estate Services. With the increased responsibilities and success of my business I have come to the decision not to seek re-election for another term as a Vanderburgh County Commissioner.
I have been in local government since 1998. Because of my desire to continue in public service, in the next few weeks I will be looking at other opportunities to serve our community.

TROPICANA EVANSVILLE ANNOUNCES CHARITY TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Since 1996, Tropicana Evansville has celebrated the spirit of the holiday season by hosting charity slot and blackjack tournaments at their Evansville casino in the month of December. These tournaments are unique in that players’ entry fees are either a new toy valued at $10 or more, or $10 or more in cash. The generosity of Tropicana Evansville’s players is exhibited through the many toys collected and money donated. This year’s tournaments were held Wednesday, December 2 through Sunday, December 6.
All proceeds benefit two area organizations, Salvation Army’s Toy Town and Santa Clothes Club. Tropicana Evansville has a 19-year history with both organizations and has donated more than 19,150 toys ($191,500 value) and $38,430 to assist them in their efforts over the years.

Also, $2,680 in cash donations will go to Santa Clothes Club to provide new clothing for needy grade school children whose names are obtained through area school programs.
ST. MARY’S MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHY OFFERS FREE MAMMOGRAMS FOR THOSE WHO QUALIFY
St. Mary’s Mobile Digital Mammography is coming to your community soon. Digital pictures can be magnified, adjusted and previewed to see certain areas that regular film cannot. There are fewer retakes and sharper images. Digital mammograms use less radiation, making them safer for patients. All screenings include mammograms and education about breast health and early detection of breast cancer.
Participants must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- You must be between 35 to 40 years old to receive your baseline (or initial) mammogram.
- Annual mammograms should begin at age 40.
- It must have been at least one year since your last mammogram.
- Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance are accepted.
- Assistance is available for those who qualify.
St. Mary’s received the “Sharing the Vision: Early Detection of Breast Cancer†grant from the Greater Evansville Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation, and the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust “Power of Hope†grant, which helps fund the screenings.

Under 100 tickets remain for the University of Evansville men’s basketball game against Wichita State that is set for January 31.

ANOTHER CHANCE FOR ANIMALS, INC TO HOST 2nd ANNUAL “PAWS FOR A CAUSE BIG SHOW EXTRAVAGANZAâ€
Another Chance for Animals, Inc. will host “Paws for a Cause Big Show Extravaganza†on Saturday, March 12, 2015 beginning at 5:00PM to raise funds for the rescue. Another Chance for Animals is dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of homeless animals in the area, working diligently to find forever homes and loving families for these animals. This year’s event will be held at the Tropicana Evansville Executive Conference Center in Walnut A & B. The fundraising event will feature musical entertainment by the Allen Tate & Chuck Gee Duo, Tom Small, Nick Hamilton, Tony Henning and Jenny’s Bad Hair Day. Comedian Gavin Eddings will entertain the crowd with the performance of a solo improv act. In addition, there will be a cocktail hour, silent auction and a delicious meal.
