Case # 24-04589

Neglect of a Dependent Causing Death Arrest

SUMMARY

On March 12th, 2024, at approximately 9:20 a.m. Evansville Police Officers were dispatched to 100 South Greenriver Road about an unresponsive one-month-old. 25-year-old Samuel C. Womack, the infant’s father, called 911 to report that the baby was not breathing. Womack reported that when he woke up that morning, he discovered the victim lying face down in the bassinet with blood coming from the infant’s mouth and nose.

Multiple agencies responded and lifesaving measures were performed but the infant was pronounced deceased a short time later at a local hospital.

At the time this medical emergency was reported the infant was in the father’s care while the mother was at work. Womack initially told officers that the infant was positioned on their back when put to sleep, but Womack later stated that he placed the infant on their stomach.

Womack’s statements throughout the incident and investigation have been inconsistent.

A thorough investigation has been conducted and on today’s date, April 19th,  Samuel C. Womack was arrested and charged with the neglect of a dependent causing death.

THUNDERBOLTS’ HISTORIC SEASON COMES TO AN END IN PEORIA

THUNDERBOLTS’ HISTORIC SEASON COMES TO AN END IN PEORIA

Peoria, Il.:  The 2023-24 season may be done, but the Thunderbolts have much to be proud of throughout this season, concluding with a 5-2 loss in Peoria on Friday night.

Evansville trailed 1-0 in the first period on a Rivermen goal from Alec Baer, before tying the game at 1-1 late in the second period with a Scott Kirton goal at 17:55, as the Thunderbolts progressively picked up more momentum.  The Thunderbolts’  momentum peaked in the third period, with near-full control of the gameplay in all three zones, and it resulted in Evansville taking a 2-1 lead as Lincoln Hatten scored from Logan vande Meerakker and Mark Zhukov at 8:00.  A late penalty call on Evansville flipped things around against the Thunderbolts however, as the Rivermen tied the game at 14:25, followed by a couple more quick goals to take back the momentum, which they rode to a 5-2 victory.

Kirton and Hatten each finished with one goal, while Cole Ceci finished with 30 saves on 34 shots. Despite the bitter ending, the Thunderbolts enjoyed a magnificent turnaround of a season, recovering from a 1-9-1 start to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year, upsetting the top-seeded Birmingham Bulls in the first round of the playoffs and coming minutes away from forcing the 2nd-seeded Rivermen to a winner-take-all third game.  That momentum can be expected to continue into next season, with a slightly shorter off-season separating Evansville from the start of 2024-25, when the Thunderbolts begin their next campaign to prove that this season’s regular season and post-season success was no fluke.

Season tickets for the 2024-25 season are on sale now.  Call 812-422-BOLT or visit our all-new website (www.evansvillethunderbolts.com) for details.

About Evansville Thunderbolts: The Evansville Thunderbolts is the area’s only professional hockey team. The Thunderbolts are a proud member of the SPHL.  The team is owned and operated by VW Sports, L.L.C, a subsidiary of VenuWorks, Inc. www.evansvillethunderbolts.com

Senator Braun to call on Senate to follow impeachment rules in Point of Order

1

WASHINGTON – The Senate rules for impeachments are being thrown out the window .

Not only is Senate Democratic Leadership attempting to dismiss an impeachment without trial for the first time, they’re also not following the basic rules of the Senate like issuing a “writ of summons” to Secretary Mayorkas.

In every one of the 21 impeachments in American history, the Senate has issued a “writ of summons” to the impeached party requesting either his presence before the Senate or a written response to the charges.

The Senate rules of impeachment clearly say a writ of summons “shall” be issued, leaving no room for interpretation.

Senator Mike Braun will raise a point of order today and ask Senators to vote to issue this required writ of summons to Secretary Mayorkas to hear his response to the charges that he willfully and systematically refused to comply with the law and broke public trust.

“President Biden and his allies in the Senate are trying to sweep this impeachment under the rug because they don’t want to talk about their open border policy and the Americans who have lost their lives because of it,” said Senator Mike Braun. “They’re breaking even the most basic rules of the Senate to stop the American people from hearing about their catch-and-release program that’s let millions into our country with no right to be here.”

In President Trump’s first impeachment trial when Republicans controlled the Senate, a writ of summons was issued which President Trump responded to with a substantive response to the charges against him for all Senators to consider (see pages 7 to 14).

The U.S. House of Representatives has impeached Secretary Mayorkas on two counts following an extensive, five-phase investigation. Concerning the first Article of Impeachment (catch and release), the Committee demonstrated that Secretary Mayorkas refused to detain illegal immigrants as federal law requires him to do, instead putting forward his own catch-and-release program.
