All five Aces players notch a 76 or lower

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A great all-around team effort saw the University of Evansville men’s golf team jump into fifth place in the final round of the Hoosier Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

All five Purple Aces golfers finished with rounds of 76 or lower to make the jump into the top five.

Leading the way once again was Rick Voyvodic, who notched another 73 to finish in a tie for 11th with a final score of 146.  Tyler Gray matched Voyvodic’s effort, recording a 73 of his own.  He tied for 16th with a 148.

Wil Pahud carded the low round of the day for the squad, notching a 72.  He tied for 21st with a 149.  Will Knights finished the second round with a 75 and tied for 36th place while Joseph Addante notched a 76 and finished the event with a 160.

Western Illinois clinched the team win by seven shots over Illinois State.  The Leatherneck notched a 578 while the Redbirds finished with a 585.  Evansville’s rally saw them take 5th place with a 596, six behind Ohio U., who finished fourth.

On the individual side, there was a five-way tie for the win as Peyton White (Ohio), Lyle Burns (Bradley), Jake Brown (Indiana), Zach Burry (Illinois State) and Trent Wallace (Illinois State) each had scores of 142.

The guys will be back in action on April 11 and 12 at the Tennessee State Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.

USI’s Roberts breaks 5,000-meter record

Sophomore Emily Roberts (Fredericktown, Ohio) finished first out of 104 runners in the 5,000 meters Friday night to lead the University of Southern Indiana women’s track & field team to a 13th-place finish at the Washington University Invitational.

Roberts broke Heather Cooksey’s 11-year old school record (16:32.97) in the event with her time of 16 minutes, 31.17 seconds. Roberts’ time ranks first, nationally, and was less than six seconds off an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying time.

Joining Roberts with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time was senior Jessica Reeves (Midland, Michigan). Reeves finished sixth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:09.86.

The Screaming Eagles, who finished 13th as a team with 13 points, return to action April 14-16 when they compete at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California, and the SIU Edwardsville Gateway Invitational in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Congressional Candidate Dr. Richard Moss issues a Public Challenge to Congressman Bucshon to Debate!

Stop Ducking the Voters and the Issues!

Jasper, IN – The Moss For Congress Campaign is issuing a formal and public challenge to Congressman Larry Bucshon to debate Congressional Candidate Dr. Richard Moss in three areas across Indiana’s 8th Congressional District including Vanderburgh, Vigo, and Dubois Counties in the month of April before the May 3, 2016 Republican primary.

“I call on Congressman Larry Bucshon to stop hiding behind his speech writers, spin doctors, paid operatives, hired staff, consultants, lobbyists, and propagandists and debate me on the issues and his voting record, one on one, face to face, eyeball to eyeball, in Evansville, Terre Haute, and Jasper in the month of April. Stop ducking the issues, Congressman. Stop snubbing the voters. Stop hiding behind your huge campaign war chest and the power and perks of incumbency, and face me, your challenger in the Republican Primary – and let the voters decide who should represents them.”

We had scheduled a debate with Congressman Bucshon at our expense at the Eykamp Scout Center on Wednesday, March 30, 2015, in Evansville.  My campaign staff made the arrangements including food and beverages.  The Moss For Congress Campaign paid for the insurance and rent for the facility.  We notified the public through the press and other venues.  We contacted the Bucshon campaign by phone and email through his website and Evansville District Office on multiple occasions going back weeks before the event.  Each time our campaign was given the run around, leading up to a final dismissive and patronizing email note from the Bucshon campaign regarding how busy the beloved Congressman was.  Further, his schedule for that day indicated that he was in Evansville the day of the debate meeting with the Vanderburgh County Republicans Women’s Group.  He had plenty of advance notice and opportunity to respond but for purely political reasons, chose not to – until a campaign staffer fired off a summary, off-handed dismissal.

As I mentioned at the time, none of this was unexpected.  Bucshon has better things to do.  Ensconced in office, enjoying the advantages of incumbency, self-satisfied, smug, secure, well funded, plenty of perks, a large staff and budget, the Congressman has grown complacent and insulated.  He doesn’t have to confront his opponent in a debate or meet the constituents other than in controlled, staged settings.  He prefers not to pick through the various votes he has taken in nearly six years in Congress that have done enormous damage to the 8th District, Indiana, and the nation. I would understand his hesitation. Friendly Lincoln Day Dinners as keynote speaker without being challenged would be more to his liking.

We provided an opportunity for the voters to hear from both candidates, in a face-to-face debate. Ron Cosby of the City County Observer agreed to moderate.  We leased a suitable facility. The Congressman was given ample notice to arrange his schedule.  He found it unacceptable. Fine. It’s over.  But let’s agree now to arrange a series of three Lincoln-Douglas style debates, in honor of the founder of the Republican Party, our 16th President, in the three main divisions of the 8th district, sponsored by local media in each area.  And let the voters decide.

Congressman Bucshon claims to be transparent.  He asserts that he wants to be open with his constituents. But when it comes to an honest debate, he snubs the people.  Where is the accountability?  We don’t need more glossy campaign mailers from speechwriters and ministers of propaganda.  We don’t need to hear from the graphic designers, media consultants, marketing specialists, and other paid political hacks.  We don’t need the slick TV commercials and radio spots telling us how wonderful he is or the Face Book ads and Robocalls.  We need to hear from you, Congressman.  Without the layers of staffers and operatives that protect and shield you.  In a series of three debates across the district face to face.  Leave your advisors, managers, and other hangers-on behind. And let the people decide who should represent them.

As I have written before:

“Congressman Bucshon voted for the Omnibus bill last December, not less than 2000 pages, a $1.1 trillion behemoth, or about half a billion dollars a page, that increased spending by $53 billion over the last year.  It also fully funded Obama’s lawless executive amnesty, not to mention Planned Parenthood and “sanctuary cities,” while quadrupling H2-B visas bringing in more unskilled labor to compete with American workers.  So his claims to oppose Amnesty are false.  If you fund something you support it.  And he has voted to fund amnesty.  Anything after that is meaningless political pablum.”

It’s time to pick over Congressman Bucshon’s voting record.  Not his “conservative” rhetoric when he comes home to campaign – but his actual votes. The people deserve a face-to-face comparison of the two candidates in the Republican primary. I publically challenge Congressman Bucshon to a debate.  And let the voters decide!

“Our nation is at the precipice.  Time is running out. We cannot afford business as usual or the status quo. Our country is slipping through our fingers.  It is time for a change for Indiana’s 8th district. I ask for your vote in the Republican Primary May 3 2016. I will be your conservative champion in Washington.  I will not let you down.  Thank you.”

IS IT TRUE the Vanderburgh County Sheriff says his office has run out of room at its Evansville Command Post and hopes to build a new one? …Sheriff Dave Wedding says the Sheriff Office is moving forward with plans to build the new Operations Center. in front of the existing jail? …Sheriff Wedding feels that building a new Command Post that it will provide more room for deputies and investigators while saving the county money because the Sheriff’s Office rent paid for its current space located on Highway 41 around $124,000 a year? …Sheriff Wedding estimates the new Command Post will cost around $1.5 million dollars to build? …we highly recommended that the Vanderburgh County Council give Sheriff Wedding request serious consideration?

IS IT TRUE IceMen owner Ron Geary was seen making an obscene gesture toward a heckler who was making “obscene and nasty comments” at him at the end of Saturday night final IceMen game?  …Mr. Geary showed his human side by publicly admitting that he’s from a working-class neighborhood and family and occasionally he can get a little redneck?”  …we are less concerned about the finger pointing gesture of Mr. Geary but rather more concerned about his comment that the IceMen were forced out by the (Winnecke) administration and by the VenuWorks management?  …we hope one day Mr. Geary will come forward and present documented  facts that backs up this statement?

IS IT TRUE that City officials are looking at redrawing the Arts District boundaries to boost TIF revenues? ..  the Haynie’s Corner Arts District Tax Increment Financing (TIF) fund netted in $0 dollars in 2015? …in 2016 and 2017  it has been predicted by Mr. Coures  that the income from the TIF program shall  be $0 dollars? … years ago the CCO predicted that starting a TIF program in the Arts District was a mistake?

IS IT TRUE we find it laughable that Kelley Coures, Director of the Department of Metropolitan Development announced that he will propose to City Council later this year a plan to shrink the size of the Haynie’s Corner Arts District in order to grow its TIF District revenues. We wonder how you can decrease this District but make more money?

IS IT TRUE we hope that the expansion of new businesses, such as the Dapper Pig, Sauced, Bokeh Lounge, Haynie’s Corner Pub, new rentals apartments at the Maybelle, Montrose and Owen Block apartments will generated additional money in the Haynie’s Corner Arts District TIF funds as Mr. Coures predicted ?

IS IT TRUE that our most resent “Readers Poll”  ask the question: Have you given anyone an obscene gesture (finger) when someone insulted, harassed or cussed you in public?  …313 people voted in this poll and 293 people said they did?

IS IT TRUE  one of our  “Readers Poll” questions was: “If the election was held today for the Republican primary for District 77 State Representative would you vote for” ?   …that 305 people voted in this poll?  …that Johnny Kincaid received 163 votes , Billy Garrett received 91 votes and Henrietta Jenkins had 51 votes?

IS IT TRUE that next “Readers Poll” question was: Do you think that State Representative Gail Riecken should opening support a candidate in the Democratic primary? …that 424 people voted in this poll? …260 votes no, 134 voted yes and 30 people voted no idea?

IS IT TRUE the final “Readers Poll”  question was: If the election was held today for the Republican primary for the 8th Congressional seat who would you vote for? …that 419 people voted in this poll? …that Dr .Richard Moss received 180 votes, Dr Larry Bucshon received 141 votes and 98 voted none of the above?

FOOTNOTE: Todays “Readers Poll” question is:  Do you feel its time for the city to stop spending our hard earned tax dollars in Haynie’s Corner Arts District?

USI Swept Doubleheader From University of Illinois Springfield

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 30th-ranked University of Southern Indiana baseball team returned to form and swept a doubleheader from University of Illinois Springfield, 9-1 and 14-1, Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI saw its record rise to 16-10 overall, 5-3 in the GLVC, while Illinois Springfield finished the series 11-12 overall, 4-4 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles got back on track in the opening game behind the strong seven-inning performance of junior right-hander Devin Williams (Evansville, Indiana). Williams (3-3) held the Prairie Stars to one run on seven hits and a walk, while striking out six in the complete game win.

Offensively, the Eagles jumped out in front with a three-run third inning, highlighted by the two-run double by senior first baseman Andrew Cope (Evansville, Indiana). USI would add a run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three more in the sixth to seal the victory.

USI senior third baseman Trent Gunn (Tell City, Indiana) led the way at the plate with three hits and three runs scored. Cope and sophomore first baseman/designated hitter Drake McNamara (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) had two RBIs each in the contest.

In the nightcap, USI senior rightfielder Kyle Kempf (Evansville, Indiana) drove in a career-high five runs and freshman right-hander Austin Krizan (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) gave the Eagles seven strong innings in the 14-1 win. The Eagles scored all of the runs they would need in a five-run second inning before pushing nine more tallies across the plate over the next five frames to seal the victory.

Kempf finished the second game four-for-four, tying a career-high for hits for the fifth time in his career, while driving in the five RBIs and scoring once. Senior centerfielder Hamilton Carr (Evansville, Indiana) followed with three RBIs and three runs scored, while sophomore second baseman Sam Griggs(Evansville, Indiana) posted three hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored in the series finale.

On the mound, Krizan (2-0) was dominating through seven of the nine innings. He scattered three hits and three walks, while striking out three. Junior right-hander Nick Coudret (Newburgh, Indiana) and senior right-hander Ben Blaize (Henderson, Kentucky) pitched the final two innings to close out the game.

USI hits the road for the next 10 games, beginning the re-scheduled non-conference game versus the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri. The Eagles hold a 49-41 lead over the Tritons all-time after splitting a four-game series in 2015 in St. Louis.

The Tritons are 18-7 overall in 2016 after splitting a four-game series with William Jewell College over the weekend.

‘Spring Aboard’ During Spring Break

0

Indiana Conservation Officers will be partnering with the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) to encourage boaters to Spring Aboard and enroll in a boater education course.  Working in partnership with the states, many on-line course providers will offer incentives or course discounts for students who enroll in or complete a course during the Spring Aboard campaign from April 17-23, 2016..

“An informed and knowledgeable boat operator is much more likely to recognize hazardous conditions on the water and avoid a boating mishap”, said Indiana Boating Law Administrator Lt. Kenton Turner.  “Classroom courses are offered through Indiana Conservation Officers.  Online courses are available 24/7 and provide state specific information needed for your boating location.”

Forty-nine (49) states and U.S. territories require proof of completion of a boater education course for operators of some powered vessels.  For Indiana available courses, visit: (online) https://www.boat-ed.com/indiana/index.html – (Classroom) https://www.register-ed.com/programs/indiana/104-indiana-boater-education/agency:25

For Indiana boating regulations and educational material visit:  http://www.in.gov/dnr/lawenfor/8678.htm

According to the latest U.S. Coast Guard statistics, 80% of boating deaths occurred on boats where the operator had neverreceived boating education instruction.
