Newburgh, Indiana – Mutts at Myriad, the beloved collaborative community event by the Warrick Humane Society and Myriad Brewing Company, is mixing up some magic with a Fan Favorite. This is a Beer and Food pairing event taking place this Saturday, April 20th. We invite beer and food lovers everywhere to come on down to explore your taste buds between 12 pm-3 pm. And, of course, don’t forget to bring your dog along!

About Warrick Humane Society: Warrick Humane Society, a no-kill shelter located in Newburgh, Indiana. It was founded in 1983 by a handful of dedicated volunteers who rescued lost, injured, and neglected animals. Since WHS opened its building in 1997 and began actively working with Animal Control agencies and other rescue organizations, WHS has saved thousands of animals and placed them in loving homes. Warrick Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) no-kill rescue dedicated to improving companion animals’ lives. WHS does not receive any funding from taxes or any national organizations. Evansville Commission on the Social Status of African American Males will host an Opportunity Fair for students seeking employment after high school.

(Evansville, IN) – The Evansville Commission on the Social Status of African American Males will host an Opportunity Fair on Friday, April 26, highlighting career opportunities available across the region for juniors and seniors seeking employment after high school.

The event, which will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Old National Events Plaza, will feature a teensummit and job fair. There will be a broad range of companies present at the job fair from manufacturing to healthcare. The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation will provide transportation from the high schools.

Evansville City Councilman Alex Burton, a city council representative on the Evansville Commission on the Social Status of African American Males is the event coordinator.

“The end of the school year is swiftly approaching, and the intent of this event is to make career opportunities even more accessible,” Burton said. “Area employers are hiring, and it is important for the classes of 2024 and 2025 to know of their options and their earnings potential immediately after high school.”

Many of the employers who will be present also provide tuition reimbursement to further education in the future. The event is free and open to all high school students.

The Evansville Commission on the Social Status of African American Males was established in 1999 because of legislative findings and statistical studies that revealed disturbing conditions and trends for African American males in Indiana, the work of the Evansville Commission on the Social Status of African American Males

LEADERSHIP EVERYONE TO HOST ANNUAL MEETING AT BOSSE HIGH SCHOOL

Leadership Everyone (LE) will host its Annual Meeting this year at Bosse High School on May 7, 5:30-7 pm. The event will celebrate LE’s work throughout the region, recognize new LE alumni, elect the 2024-2025 Board of Directors, and showcase work done at Bosse.

In the past several years, LE has been holding visioning sessions at Bosse for both students and teachers, taking teachers through the Community Leadership Program, providing support for teachers, as well as doing full-day Leadership Training for all Bosse seniors. Through LE partners, SABIC, BMWC, and BrandSafway, a brand new chemistry lab was built for the school. And Wesselman Woods provided a greenhouse renovation.

“We love Bosse High School and are so excited to be helping in every way we can,” says Leadership Everyone CEO, Lynn Miller Pease. “We are thrilled to hold our Annual Meeting at Bosse so that even more people can see how great this school is, and more importantly, how they can help make it even better!”

Leadership Everyone holds its Annual Meeting each year to celebrate and honor the year’s accomplishments, highlighting those who help make the organization impactful. The Annual allows LE members to witness the success of the past year’s Community Leadership Programs, VOICE, Celebration of Leadership, and other projects, in addition to honoring new and outstanding alumni. They also elect the Board and Officers for the coming year. This year, Bosse seniors will speak on their experience with Servant Leadership, and tours will be given of the greenhouse and chemistry lab.

Ivy Tech Day Planned for April 23

Evansville, Ind. — For 24 hours, Ivy Tech alumni, faculty, staff, donors, and community members will have an opportunity to break down barriers to higher education while celebrating Ivy Tech’s 2^ndAnnual Ivy Tech Day, Tuesday, April 23. Donations may be made on April 23 at Ivytech.edu/giveday.

“This is a day dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Ivy Tech and we want to activate our alumni, our staff and faculty, and the community to share the important work happening at Indiana’s largest postsecondary institution and engine of workforce development,” said Chancellor Daniela Vidal.

Funds raised on Ivy Tech Day will support the areas of greatest need at Ivy Tech Evansville and Tell City, such as emergency aid for students. “By rallying community support, we aim to empower our students to overcome financial obstacles and pursue their educational goals with confidence,” Vidal added.

Go Green
As part of Ivy Tech Day celebrations, the Evansville campus is hosting a range of engaging activities and initiatives on campus in Evansville and Tell City for students, faculty and staff, kicking off with breakfasts in Evansville and Tell City featuring mayoral proclamations. The community is invited to join Ivy Tech Evansville and “Go Green” to honor Ivy Tech’s impact. Businesses and organizations are asked to illuminate their spaces in green lights and help to encourage donations, and in Evansville the Old Courthouse and main street will feature a familiar green glow.

Chancellor Challenge

Everyone can participate in the Chancellor Challenge, by posting a picture on social media wearing green or with an Ivy Tech logo in the picture and tagging it with #growivygrow #chancellorchallenge #ivytechevansville or #ivytechtellcity. Prizes will be awarded.

Softball welcomes Murray State for 3-game series

– Southern Illinois earned a 3-game series sweep last weekend in Carbondale but the Purple Aces put their best foot forward in Sunday’s finale

– Freshman Brooke Voss batted in all four runs by the Purple Aces in last weekend’s series at SIU

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville baseball team returns to Missouri Valley Conference play this weekend, as the Purple Aces head to Peoria, Illinois for a three-game series against the Bradley Braves. The series kicks off on Friday night at 6 p.m. in a game that can be heard live in the Tri-State area on 107.1 FM-WJPS and can be seen live on ESPN+.

Evansville will bring a 19-17 overall record and 7-5 MVC mark into this weekend’s series after knocking off Indiana, 5-4, on Tuesday night. The Purple Aces will bring a five-game winning streak into this weekend’s series, and UE has won nine of its last 10 games overall. Evansville is currently in a four-team tie for second-place in the MVC standings entering the weekend, three games back of league-leading Indiana State.

This weekend’s series will mark the return to Peoria for UE junior infielder Cal McGinnis. McGinnis began his collegiate career at Bradley, and was a career .262 hitter for the Braves over 78 games the past two seasons. McGinnis transferred to Evansville in the off-season, and he has taken off while at UE, as he will bring a .321 average, eight doubles, two triples, two home runs and 20 RBI into this weekend’s series. McGinnis has already posted single-season career-highs for hits, doubles, triples and RBI this year at UE.

McGinnis is part of a UE offense which will bring a .295 team batting average into this weekend’s series. The Purple Aces rank seventh in NCAA Division I baseball this year with 94 doubles, and UE is just one double shy of last year’s season total of 95, which was set in 61 games.

Bradley will bring a 10-24 overall record and 4-8 MVC mark into this weekend’s series. The Braves will be trying to snap a six-game losing streak in Friday’s series opener, after dropping mid-week contests at Eastern Illinois and Iowa this week. The Bradley offense is led by one of the league’s top newcomers in sophomore infielder Beau Durbin. Durbin currently ranks fourth in the Valley with a .376 batting average, nine doubles, a triple, two home runs and 16 RBI. Senior catcher Logan Delgado is not far behind in average at .333.

All-time, Evansville leads the series with Bradley, 63-45. Last year, UE won two out of three games from the Braves, and since 2019, UE leads the all-time series over Bradley, 10-2.

Evansville will send freshman LHP Kenton Deverman (4-1, 3.98 ERA) to the mound for Friday’s opener. Bradley has not yet officially announced a Friday starter, but right-hander Noah Edders (4-4, 5.30 ERA) has been the typical Friday starter for Bradley this year.
