Gray and Knights tie for 6^th place

 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tyler Gray and Will Knights tied for 6^th place as the University of Evansville men’s golf team finished in second place in their first spring tournament – the Don Benbow Invitational – at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

As a team, the Purple Aces posted a 587, finishing ten strokes behind winner Florida Atlantic and five ahead of 3^rd place Laval.

Leading the way for UE were Knights and Gray, who each finished with totals of 144.  Gray posted a 72 in each round while Knights carded a 71 on Monday before finishing with a 73 on Tuesday.  Firing off the low round of the day for the Aces was Rick Voyvodic.  The senior improved his efforts from Monday by six shots, notching an even 71.  He tied for 11^th.

Joseph Addante also saw improvement in round two.  He jumped three strokes to record a 74 to finish the event with a 151, tying for 20^th.  Three behind him was Wil Pahud, whose 154 was good for a 23^rd-place tie.

Individual Jon Pick finished with a 1-over 72 in the final round to tie for 14^th with a final score of 149.  Noah Reese tied for 33^rd with a 157 while Austin Carmack saw his score from Monday drop by four strokes as he finished with a 164 following his round of 80.

Medalist went to Laval’s Baptiste Mory, who won by one stroke.  Mory’s 3-under 68 in the final round saw him finish with a 140.

Evansville will stay in Florida where it will begin play in the Butler Intercollegiate tomorrow.

COCOA BEACH, Fla.- The University of Southern Indiana women’s tennis team was defeated by Saginaw Valley State University, 9-0, Tuesday Morning in Cocoa Beach, Florida. The Screaming Eagles move to 2-6 on the year with the loss. USI has two more matches, Wednesday and Thursday, remaining in their spring break trip.

The Eagles struggled in doubles play losing all three matches, which began at ten o’clock. The duo ofKelsey Shipman<http://gousieagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2454> (Olney, Illinois) and Kymberly Brannon<http://gousieagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2451> (Louisville, Kentucky) put up a fight at number two doubles before eventually falling by a score of 8-4.

Elizabeth Wilm<http://gousieagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2455> (Evansville, Indiana) came close to getting a win at number one singles. The senior forced a tiebreak in the first set but eventually fell 7-6 (7-1) and dropped the second set, 6-4. The Brenna Wu<http://gousieagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2456>(Evansville, Indiana) dropped her first set at number three singles before recovering with a 6-2 victory in the second set. Wu would drop the third set tiebreaker, 6-1, in the match that sealed the victory for Saginaw Valley.

USI has two more matches to conclude their spring break trip to Florida. Tomorrow, USI will then travel to Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida for an afternoon match up at 12:30 p.m. The Eagles end their trip back in Cocoa Beach taking on Bloomsburg University on Thursday.

UE in Jacksonville for the week 

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After winning three tournaments in the fall, University of Evansville golfer Kayla Katterhenry picked up right where she left off and ranks in a tie for second following the first round of the Benbow Invitational at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

Katterhenry fired off a 2-over 74 and is one off the lead going into play on Tuesday.  Her efforts has the Purple Aces in fourth place on the team list, just two out of a tie for second place.  UE finished with a 323 while Northern Kentucky and The Citadel are tied for second with a 321.  Valparaiso leads with a 312.

Giulia Mallmann is second on the UE squad.  Her 80 in the first round has her in a tie for 12^th place.  Two behind her is freshman Madison Chaney.  Her 82 placed her in a tie for 19^th.

Maria Pickens sits in a tie for 40^th with her round of 87 while Maggie Camp carded a 93.  Rachel Marchi and Carly Waggoner played as individuals.  Marchi finished Monday’s round with an 88 while Waggoner notched a 92.

UE in Jacksonville for the week

 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A full team effort has the University of Evansville men’s golf team in second place at the Don Benbow Invitational following the opening round.

Will Knights finished the opening day with a 71 to sit in 5^th place on the leaderboard.  Tyler Gray is one behind him with a 72.  He is tied for 6^th place.

The rest of the squad also performed exceptionally well as the trio of Rick Voyvodic, Wil Pahud and Joseph Addante each carded rounds of 77 and are tied for 18^th.

As a team, the Aces finished with a 287.  They are 8 strokes behind leader Florida Atlantic and have a one shot lead over 3^rd place IUPUI.

Three individuals played on Monday for UE.  Jon Pick was the top performer, posting a 77.  Noah Reese completed the first day with an 81 while Austin Carmack finished with an 84.

Laval University golfer Arthur Heinkele and FAU individual Yuki Fujii sit atop the individual list.  Both recorded rounds of 68 to open the event.
