Open House Planned For Students Interested In Earning Associate Degree In Less Than 1 Year

0

An Open House is planned at Ivy Tech Community College for high school graduates within the last three years, who are interested in earning an Associate of Science Degree in Liberal Arts in

11 months through the Associate Accelerated Program (ASAP).

The free event is planned for Wednesday, May 25, from 6-8 p.m., in Room 107 at Ivy Tech Community College, 3501 First Avenue.

The program is designed so that students attend classes together, as a cohort, each day of the week. Financial and technology supports are made available to students. The associate degree is completely transferrable to all colleges in Indiana and selected others. “In fact, the students graduating in our first two cohorts, had 100 percent of their college credits earned, transfer seamlessly to their bachelor degree granting university or college,” said Kelly Cozart, associate vice chancellor for academics at Ivy Tech. “Students were able to transfer after 11 months to become juniors at IU, Purdue, Butler, USI, UE and Western Kentucky University, to continue toward a four-year degree.”

At the event students will have the opportunity to speak with faculty and coordinators of the program, and talk one-on-one with recent graduates. Information about financial aid, programming, supports for students, and a campus tour will be provided.

YESTERYEAR: Thunderbolt Panel Production

0

On October 6, 1944, this group of Servel employees was photographed to celebrate the completion of the 15,000th wing panel for the P-47 Thunderbolts manufactured at the Republic Aviation plant in Evansville during World War II. The first wings rolled off the assembly line in July 1942, requiring over 12,000 hours to build, but within two years, the process was reduced to only 2,334 hours. Servel also manufactured wings for Republic’s plant in Farmingdale, New York, and shipped some to war zones to replace those damaged in combat.

OTTERS LOSE SERIES AGAINST FREEDOM

0

The Evansville Otters were narrowly defeated by a score of 7-5 at Bosse Field on Sunday night. Evansville would score first following a throwing error with a runner at second base. Florence would muster only one hit through the first two innings until a nightmare of an inning for the Otters occurred in the third that consisted of four hits, an error, and a wild pitch, which allowed four runs to score. The game appeared fairly uneventful, with both teams having trouble manufacturing hits, until the Otters were able to explode for five hits in the sixth to tie and eventually take a 5-4 lead. The offensive outburst within the inning was highlighted by four consecutive hits before a single out was even recorded. Drama would unfold in the eighth with the Otters clinging on to a 5-4 lead. Evansville relief pitcher, Brody Greer, would walk the first of three hitters he faced to start the inning. This led to a pivotal moment in the contest when Freedom’s Austin Newell delivered a bases clearing double that deflated the Otters’ aspirations for victory. Evansville will look to gain momentum on the road as the team next plays a doubleheader against the River City Rascals on Wednesday.

The Otters return home on May 31st for a three game home stand versus Joliet. Tickets are on sale and may be obtained by calling (812) 435-8686.
