USI DEFEATS OAKLAND CITY COLLEGE BY 13 TO 2 SCORE

0

The University of Southern Indiana baseball team scored 13 times on 10 hits in cruising to a 13-2 victory over Oakland City University Wednesday evening at the USI Baseball Field. USI saw its record go to 23-14 overall, while Oakland City watched its record fall to 19-21 in 2016.

The Screaming Eagles took control early by building a 3-0 lead after three innings before breaking the game open with an eight-run fourth innings. USI would add an insurance tally in fifth and eighth, finishing with the 13-2 victory.

Sophomore leftfielder Drake McNamara (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) led the offensive attack with three RBIs, while senior shortstop Kyle Niemeier (Evansville, Indiana), senior rightfielder Kyle Kempf (Evansville, Indiana), and senior catcher Ryan Bertram (Zionsville, Indiana) had two RBIs each. Niemeier extended his team-best hitting streak to 13-games with a three-hit performance.

Kempf had two doubles in the victory and is now three short of Mike Peerman’s (1997-2007) USI career-record of 270 hits.

On the mound, senior right-hander Alex Holder (Princeton, Indiana) got back on track with his third win of the year. Holder (3-4) went five innings, scattering four hits and striking out four.

The Eagles continue the 10-game homestand with a four-game set with Lewis University Saturday and Sunday at the USI Baseball Field. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

USI leads the all-time series with Lewis, 57-54, after losing three of four to the Flyers in Romeoville, Illinois, during 2015. The Eagles have won nine of the last 12 games with the Flyers at the USI Baseball Field.

The Flyers started this week’s action with a 20-14 overall mark splitting a doubleheader with Quincy University this afternoon in Romeoville, Illinois. Lewis, currently, is in fourth in the GLVC East Division with a 9-7 GLVC record after splitting five of its last eight GLVC games.

EPD SWAT Team Attends Tactical Medical Training

0

In many high risk situations, the first emergency workers to encounter injured civilians are police officers. With that in mind, the EPD SWAT Team attended Tactical Medical training this week. The training included bleeding control using tourniquets and bandaging for self-aid and aid to others, the importance of establishing and maintaining airway, using chest seals for victims with penetrating wounds to the chest, preventing and treating patients that are in shock, and evacuating patients from the HOT zone to the casualty collection point where EMS would be staged.

EPD Officers Lenny Reed and Ryan Winters were the instructors for this training. They recently returned from Cypress Creek EMS in Spring Texas where they provided medical training for officers from around the country.

As the role of police officers evolves, so does our training. We are proud to play an active role in educating officers and preparing them to be #‎WarriorHealers. #CCEMS.COM

IS IT TRUE that Supit Ying MossI wanted an opportunity to respond to an article in last Saturday morning Courier and Press that reported on an incident that allegedly accused her husband,  Dr. Richard Moss, of misdemeanor battery 23 years ago and she has just responded to set the record straight.

IS IT TRUE she acknowledges they have had a few marital spat, over the years but at no time were there any physical contact between her and her husband? …she also states that there were no battery occurred then or at any time during her time together with her husband?  …we just posted a copy of Mrs. Supit Ying MossI  letter she sent to the Evansville Courier and Press and also posted it in the CCO with her permission?  …we  posted Supit Ying MossI letter without opinion, bias or editing?

IS IT TRUE the Evansville Courier & Press editor announced over the weekend, the Courier will host a debate between Cheryl Musgrave and her opponents competing for the Vanderburgh County Commissioner seat in the Republican primary?  …the debate will be held Wednesday April 27, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Browning Room in Central Library?  …you can bet that the real Mayor of Evansville Carol McClintock and her husband hand picked candidate Alex Schmitt will be primed and ready to go to answer the debate questions?

IS IT TRUE we can’t wait to see  how Mr. Schmitt will explain to those attending this debate why his present financial problems and his unemployment status qualifies him to serve on the  Vanderburgh County Commission?  …we would also like to know if Mr. Schmitt ever had similar issues when he lived in other cities?

IS IT TRUE if “First Lady” McClintock and Mayor Winnecke’s hand picked candidate Alex Schmitt wins the Vanderburgh County Commission primary race people are  saying that they will officially take political control of Evansville and Vanderburgh County alike?  …In essence if this happens we will have a consolidated government?

IS IT TRUE a recent switch for a retirement program from Nationwide to Voya-Wells Fargo has upset some County employees?  …at yesterdays County Commission meeting  some County employees say they don’t  want their plan to change,?  …some county employees attending this meeting alleges  that there may be a conflict of interest on behalf of County Commissioner Joe Kiefer’s  because his son is one of the brokers listed  on this retirement deal thats now handled by Voya-Wells?  …its alleged  that Commissioner  Joe Kiefer son is set to receive an undisclosed amount of commission from this deal?

IS IT TRUE that  County Commissioner President Bruce Ungethiem said county officials are examining the deal to see if it can be stopped?  … County Recorder Z Tuley asked for the commissioners to stop the change?  …Jim Ethridge, a retired deputy prosecutor, spoke on why he feels why the deal was mishandled by commissioners.?  … Mr. Ethridge statement that Commissioner son is making money off this deal,”  was spot on?

IS IT TRUE that former Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Jim Ethridge charged that Commissioner Joe Kiefer son Joe Kiefer II is an employee at Wells Fargo and was one of two brokers who closed the deal?   …Commissioner Kiefer did abstained from all votes and public discussion related to this retirement plan?  … that Mr Ethridge also stated “Just because you abstained does not mean you don’t have a conflict of interest?    …this is a developing story?

WIFE OF 8TH DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE RESPONDS TO COURIER AND PRESS ARTICLE

WIFE OF 8TH DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE RESPONDS TO COURIER AND PRESS ARTICLE

I thank the Evansville Courier Press for this opportunity to respond to their article of last Saturday morning reporting on an incident that allegedly accused my good husband, Dr. Richard Moss, of misdemeanor battery in our Jasper home 23 years ago. It has been a dark cloud hanging above our family all these years and I would now like to set the record straight.

Though we had a marital spat, at no time was there physical contact between us, and definitely no battery occurred then or at any time during our time together. Though it was reported as a domestic disturbance, I feel my poor and broken English at the time, and the emotional distress I was suffering, mis-communicated what actually occurred to the investigating officers who struggled to understand what I meant to say.

Thankfully, the prosecuting attorney at the time recognized this misunderstanding and dismissed all charges against Rick.

It was only a misunderstanding between a husband and wife, 23 years ago. Nothing more.

I have been married 26 years to Rick who is now running for Congress in Indiana’s 8th District for the Republican Party. He has my most ardent support. Rick’s family, being his first constituency, stands behind him fully.

Rick and I first met in Thailand where we were married and where I assisted his surgeries as a nurse. We traveled throughout Southeast Asia on a motorcycle together for three years treating head and neck cancer victims that had little or no other access to healthcare. Our efforts were entirely voluntary. We received little or no compensation. Our work was highly acclaimed and decorated in my country, Thailand, as well as in Nepal, Bangladesh, and Burma.

Upon our return to the USA we settled in Jasper, IN and began our family and a private practice in medicine. We have been blessed with four children: Arielle, Noah, Adina, and Isaiah. Arielle is now teaching English on a Fulbright Scholarship in Morocco. Noah is a junior at IU, and Adina and Isaiah are in middle school in Jasper. Rick is a loving father and husband. He has always been active in raising our children. He also is a devoted son and wrote a book about his beloved mother and her struggles to raise her five sons in the Bronx as a single Mom.

I should mention that Rick is Jewish and very devoted to his faith. I converted to Judaism and together we have raised our four children as young Jews. Richard and I are strong supporters of Israel. We are grateful for the support many Christians give to Israel. We believe strongly that our country is founded on Judeo-Christian principles.

In closing let me reiterate that the misunderstanding reported in the paper recently was a difference of opinion that never resulted in physical contact or battery. It occurred 23 years ago. Rick and I are happily married for 26 years with four outstanding and accomplished children.

That is the real story of Rick and our family!

Sincerely,

Supit “Ying” Moss

Global Steelmaker POSCO Establishing Operations at Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville; 60 High-wage Jobs

Port’s River Access, Automotive Connections Attract South Korea’s 4th Largest Company

Indianapolis – POSCO, a multinational company headquartered in Pohang, South Korea, and the fifth-largest steel producer in the world, has announced plans to build a wire rod processing center at the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville, creating up to 60 high-wage jobs by 2018. POSCO is South Korea’s fourth largest company, behind Samsung Electronics, SK Holdings and Hyundai Motors, and is ranked No. 162 in Fortune’s Global 500.

“Although we are located on different continents, South Korea and Indiana both share a reputation of excellence when it comes to advanced manufacturing,” said Governor Mike Pence. “Having a globally-focused company like POSCO select Indiana to grow its business is a strong endorsement of our state’s low-cost, low-tax business climate, robust transportation infrastructure and dynamic port system. This company could have established operations anywhere in the world, but has found exactly what it needed right here in Indiana. POSCO is a major supplier to the automotive industry which already supports more than 100,000 jobs in our state, and we look forward to the new jobs this state-of-the-art facility will create.”

The $19 million project includes a 136,000-square-foot facility to be constructed on approximately 10 acres at the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville. POSCO plans to start construction later this year on the facility, which will be the company’s second steel processing line and fourth production line in the U.S. POSCO’s key drivers for locating at the port were the ability to ship steel into the Midwest by water, the close proximity to numerous steel and automotive-related companies and the attractive business environment in the Jeffersonville area.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to develop our first Midwestern U.S. plant at the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville,” said POSCO AAPC Finance Director Kyu Tae Kim. “It is critical for our business to receive cargo by water and to be centrally located in the U.S. market. The Jeffersonville’s port location will allow us to connect with global markets and supply our U.S. automotive customers with ‘just-in-time’ deliveries. We want to thank the State of Indiana, the City of Jeffersonville, the Ports of Indiana and One Southern Indiana for helping us to make this project a reality.”

POSCO was established in South Korea in 1968 and was the first Korean firm to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1994. It operates 312 facilities in 43 countries around the world. POSCO’s Jeffersonville plant will process steel wire for fasteners, nuts and bolts used in the automotive industry and serve as a distribution center for other POSCO products. POSCO America, incorporated in 1984, maintains its U.S. headquarters in Fort Lee, N.J., with additional facilities in Houston, Texas, Troy, Mich., and McCalla, Ala. POSCO operates two integrated steel mills in South Korea and a joint venture facility with U.S. Steel, USS-POSCO Industries, located in California.

“POSCO’s planned facility is a good fit for our port and its operations will create new business for other port companies,” said Rich Cooper, CEO for the Ports of Indiana. “Steel processors at our port currently supply components for all six of the top U.S. automakers as well as to many Tier 1 suppliers and other participants in the automotive industry’s supply chain. The port’s multimodal transportation options, including year-round barge access to the Gulf of Mexico, offer significant logistics cost savings for POSCO.”

The Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville is home to 28 businesses, including a “steel campus” of 12 metal-processing companies serving the Midwest auto and appliance industries. The port handled over one million tons of steel cargoes in 2015 and 2.8 million in total shipments.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered POSCO up to $550,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $50,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. Jeffersonville’s city council approved additional incentives at the request of the Jeffersonville Redevelopment Commission.

“Having a global company of POSCO’s caliber select Southern Indiana and, specifically, the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville, for this advanced manufacturing project, is certainly cause for celebration,” said Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore. “The opening of two new interstate bridges over the Ohio River and the continued development of our port are key drivers for attracting world-class companies like POSCO and helping them grow in our community. We are grateful to our partners in economic development, One Southern Indiana and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, for their efforts to ensure that investing in Jeffersonville is a seamless process.”
