Aces finish with 33rd-best class in the nation

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Despite not being on the courts for over a month, it has been an exciting few weeks for the Purple Aces Women’s tennis program, and Head Coach Jayson Wiseman. In addition to adding top ranked Brazilian prospect Nicoli Pereira to the program this week, the Aces received national recognition for the three incoming freshman recruits signed earlier this year.

On May 30th TennisRecruiting.net’s posted their final spring recruiting class rankings. The rankings, determined by a panel of recruiting experts, had the University of Evansville class of Theodora Soldatou, Diana Tkachenko, and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga among the top 35 classes in the country.

Finishing with 17 votes for the Top 25 was good enough to land the Aces the 33rd ranked class in the country. The Aces finished ranked just ahead of several Power 5 Conference teams Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Oklahoma, St. John’s, Texas A&M, Kansas, and Penn State. At #33 the Aces were the fifth-highest ranking Mid Major recruiting class by the panel.

Today, TennisRecruiting.net posted their final spring Mid Major recruiting class rankings and UE Tennis was once again recognized among the best in the nation. This ranking list, compiled by TRN’s top recruiting analyst Dallas Oliver, compiles the top classes for all schools not in a Power 5 Conference. According to TRN the Aces have the #8 recruiting class among all Mid Major schools.

“It is always very gratifying to have your hard work recognized by such well respected members of the tennis community,” Wiseman said.  “A lot of time and effort went in to bringing this recruiting class together and I am extremely excited to coach the group of young women we have coming in for the fall.”

“I could not have put together this class without the help of Dr. Shane Davidson, Kiersten Saltwick, Andy Brunner, and Sarah Solinsky. Now that we have the assembled this group of talented young ladies, the pressure is on to live up to such lofty expectations.”

  • Postpone painting projects or use low-VOC coatings.

Group of Car Burglars Arrested

0

On Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 4:20am the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Crown Ridge subdivision near N. Green River Road and Kansas Road upon report of an attempted vehicle break-in.

The homeowner had captured video of several suspects attempting to gain entry to his vehicle, as well as video of the suspect’s vehicle. Sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle matching the appearance of the suspect vehicle in a neighboring subdivision. Three suspects were located in the vehicle and a fourth suspect was located on a motorized scooter in the area.

During the course of the investigation deputies discovered that the group had entered numerous vehicles and stolen items from both vehicles and attached garages. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 18-year-old Marquaill Ke Juann Harvey and three juveniles ages 16, 17 and 17. Mr. Harvey was lodged at the Vanderburgh County Jail and the juveniles were lodged at the Youth Care Center.

The Sheriff’s Office offers these tips to minimize the risk of becoming a victim of a vehicle break in:

  • Unsecure firearms, medication and money should never be kept in the vehicle when not occupied.
  • Avoid leaving valuables inside a vehicle, but if necessary secure these items in a locked glove box or trunk.
  • Never leave your car unlocked, not even in your driveway.
  • Park in a well lit area or under a motion activated light.
  • If you park outside, do not store a garage door opener in your vehicle. If your vehicle is broken into, the thief now has access to your garage and house.

Many people do not report these types of thefts believing that nothing can be done. The Sheriff’s Office strongly encourages anyone who is the victim of a crime to report it. If you believe your vehicle has been entered and items taken please do not touch anything on or inside the car. If you locate items from your vehicle somewhere else such as on the ground, again refrain from touching them. Call 911 and the responding deputies can assess the possibility of recovering evidence.

ARRESTED:

Marquaill Ke Juann Harvey (pictured above), 18, of Evansville. Burglary of a Dwelling as a Level 4 Felony, Theft from a Motor Vehicle as a Class A Misdemanor, Theft from a Building as a Class A Misdemaenor, Possession of an Alcoholic Beverage as Class C Misdemeanor, Operating without Ever Recevieing a Drivers License as a Class C Misdemeanor.
