EVASNVILLE. Ind. – Both University of Southern Indiana cross country programs climbed in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 rankings after taking both team titles at the GLVC Championships. The men surged three positions to No. 7, while the women moved a single spot to No. 6.
Seven All-GLVC runners at the conference championships sealed the men’s 12th-consecutive GLVC championship and 24th overall, the most of any sport in GLVC history. Junior Bastian Grau (Höchstadt, Germany) paced the Screaming Eagles with a runner-up performance, while senior Chase Broughton(Marengo, Indiana) also earned a top-five finish placing fourth. Freshman Nathan Hall (Springfield, Missouri) earned GLVC Freshman of the year honors with a 13th-place finish, the eighth time and second-straight year a USI runner has earned the award.

With seven of 10 schools shifting position in the USTFCCCA Top 10, the Eagles move into seventh after gaining 18 more points in the poll. Colorado School of Mines jumped to the top spot of the poll, while Midwest Region foe Grand Valley State University remained in second.

In the Midwest Region, the top two spots remain unchanged with Grand Valley State and USI atop the list. The following five places all shifted after the conference championships week.
Improving by a single spot in the USTFCCCA Top 25 and Midwest Region rankings, the USI women’s cross country team jumped Cedarville University in both polls. In the national poll, USI sits five points outside the top five in sixth with 161 points. Grand Valley State continues to lead the region poll with a second place ranking in the USTFCCCA Top 25.

Junior Emily Roberts (Fredericktown, Ohio) earned the first GLVC Runner of the Year award for the USI women’s program since 2011 to help the Eagles win their sixth-straight GLVC championship. The time of 20 minutes, 36.03 seconds for Roberts set a new GLVC record, as did the USI margin of victory (55 points). Senior Jessica Reeves (Midland, Michigan) earned a second place finish, while three others joined the duo on the All-GLVC team.

USI returns to action November 5 when it hosts the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Championships at Angel Mounds.

USI, which received 80 points in the poll, returns 12 players, 11 letterwinners, and all five starters from a squad that was 14-13 overall and 7-11 in league play a year ago.

Drury University was the unanimous choice to win the West Division as it claimed 15 first-place votes and 120 points, while Quincy University (103 points and one first-place vote) was picked second.

Included in USI’s returnees are two All-GLVC honorees in senior forward Hannah Wascher (Rantoul, Illinois) and senior guard Tanner Marcum (New Albany, Indiana). Wascher led USI with 12.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game a year ago, while Marcum averaged 12.0 points and 3.3 assists per contest.

Dr. Bucshon: House Republicans Have a Better Way

0
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) –Earlier this week, the Obama Administration confirmed that millions of Americans will feel an unwanted October surprise: more ObamaCare rate shock. Health insurance premiums are set to increase by double-digits and many Americans will, in some cases, have access to only one insurer.

Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. released the following statement on the announcement:

“The Obama administration confirmed this week that health insurance premiums will go up by double-digits.  It’s clear that the ‘Affordable Care Act’ is anything but affordable for millions of Americans – families trying to make ends meet, single parents working more than one job to get by, and young adults just starting their careers,” said Bucshon.

“That’s why as a physician I’m working to repeal and replace the law with common-sense reforms that lower the cost of care. House Republicans are offering a better way on healthcare reform that implements patient-centered solutions to keep patients in charge of their healthcare decisions with plans that fit their budgets.”

BACKGROUND:

House Republicans have introduced A Better Way for Healthcare.

Our plan gives patients more control so they can choose the plan that best meets their needs—not Washington’s mandates. We will:

  • Make it easier to take insurance from job to job.
  • Expand health saving accounts.
  • Give small businesses more leverage to negotiate better rates, and
  • Allow health insurance to be sold across state lines.

All of this will help lower premiums. And instead of Washington at the center of health care, it will be the patient and her doctor.

Eagles advance to post-season with tie

0

The University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team advanced to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Bellarmine University Wednesday night at Strassweg Field. USI saw its record go to 9-8-1 overall and 6-8-1 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine goes to 11-2-4, 9-2-4 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles head to the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2012, entering the tournament as the eighth seed. USI earned the tournament berth after tying Lewis University in the standings for the final spot, but advancing to the post-season after recording a 3-1 win over the Flyers in September to own the tiebreaker.

The Eagles will travel to top-seeded Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, for their first round game Sunday. Start time is still to be determined. The Bulldogs earned the top spot after finishing the year 13-1-3 overall and 12-1-2 in the GLVC.

In the double-overtime tie, the Eagles and Knights battled to a 0-0 halftime draw in the first half with Bellarmine leading in shots, 5-0, and corners, 5-0. The second half finished the same as the first, except USI and Bellarmine had four shots each.

In overtimes, USI had a slight advantage with a 2-1 lead in shots, but neither team was able to post a tally on the scoreboard. USI senior goalkeeper Courtney Lofland (Indianapolis, Indiana) recorded her third shutout of the season after making four saves and facing 10 total shots
