GROUND BREAKING ON DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT

by Johnny Kincaid

MAY 29, 2024

The block where Evansville’s tallest building once defined the city skyline is finally on its way to becoming the site of new apartments and retail space. Ground was broken yesterday on the $60 million mixed-use project called The Vault.

CRG Residential, an Indiana-based construction and real estate investment firm, has officially closed on financing to fund construction and Fifthe and Main streets

Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry and officials from CRG Residential and the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership (E-REP) officially broke ground on the project site to ceremonially kick off construction.

Construction is expected to start this June and will be completed by mid-2026.

When completed, The Vault on Main (424 Main St.) will include 161 residential units, along with first-floor retail on Main Street and an underground parking garage.

CRG Residential and Indianapolis-based Scannell Properties developed Evansville’s Post House property with 144 units.

This development is one of many changes planned for downtown Evansville as part of E-REP’s recently released MULTI-MILLION strategic plan, which includes over a dozen new apartment and condo buildings.

Otters’ comeback falls short in series opener

EVANSVILLE, IN – The Evansville Otters dropped the series opener tonight against the Washington Wild Things 5-3 at Bosse Field.

The Otters (5-11) fell behind early and could not climb out of the 5-0 deficit to fall to the Wild Things (10-5).

Scoring was done early for Washington. They plated two runs in the top of the first inning, one of which was unearned. They added one run a piece in the third, fourth and fifth frames before the Otters answered.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Randy Bednar led off with a double to the left-center wall. Two batters later, Austin Bost launched his first home run of the year out to left field, making it a 5-2 game.

Later in the game, the Otters scored their final run on a Bednar solo homer in the seventh frame and the scoring was finalized.

On the bump, Zach Smith received the loss in his 4.2 innings. The combination of Tyler Driver, James Krick and Jon Beymer in relief did not allow a run.

The offense was held to five hits tonight, two of which belonged to Bednar. With his pair of knocks, Bednar extended his hit-streak to seven games.

The Otters will look to get back in the win column tomorrow against Washington, first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CT. Coverage is available on the Otters Digital Network and FloBaseball.

The Ongoing Dysfunction In The Local Vanderburgh County Republican Party

(Podcast produced by Johnny Kincaid)

INTRO COMMENTS WRITTEN BY STAFF

MAY 28, 2024

In this episode of This Week in Evansville, Johnny Kincaid expresses his disgust over the ongoing dysfunction in the Vanderburgh County Republican Party.

The most recent move by County Chairman Mike Duckworth was filing written complaints to the 8th District GOP Chair asking for the removal of three (3) duly elected precinct members (PCs) and state convention delegates. The complaints were filed four days after the county election board certified the results.

Kincaid says what Duckworth is doing is bad for the future of the local GOP in Vanderburgh County and the party leaders shouldn’t expect to win close elections until they stop the infighting.

Click the Podcast link posted below to hear what Johnny Kincaid has to say about the local GOP Chairman attempting to kick out three (3) recently elected PC party members.
