Andrew Horning Ask Rep. Bucshon To Stop Stealing Our Wealth, Opportunity And Security!

2

STOP Stealing Our Wealth, Opportunity And Security!

Freedom, IN – Since 1970’s Bank Secrecy Act, banks must report large financial transactions to federal agents. Since then, the reporting requirements have gotten tougher, more expansive, and secretive. For example, the “Suspicious Activity Report” invokes a gag order, and nullifies the already-lowered dollar limit such that any financial activity at all may be secretly monitored by federal agents.
Some might think increasing secrecy, power and spying is good; that it keeps us safe.

But voters make decisions on information that is increasingly missing or proven false. It’s foolish to believe that politicians we claim we don’t trust are honest with us when it comes to programs that actually fund their cronyism; like “civil asset forfeiture” programs.

While few know it, police forces now take more money and property from USA citizens by “civil asset forfeiture” (as opposed to “criminal asset forfeiture,” which requires a conviction) than do all other criminals, combined.

This “forfeiture” at gun point doesn’t require charges of any crime, or any warrant. Increasingly, this is done with foreknowledge of money movement provided by devices like the “Electronic Recovery and Access to Data” or ERAD (as in eradicate?) machine, which uses data harvest initially intended to fight drug trade and terrorism, but is in practice irrelevant to either, and is allowed to fund police departments.

This is armed highway robbery. This “policing for profit” must be stopped, not expanded.

But just this week, US House Rep. Larry Bucshon touted his support of, among other anti-constitutional bills, H.R. 5607, the Enhancing Treasury’s Anti-Terror Tools Act.

ETATTA did not go through regular order, and was rushed to the floor under suspension of the rules. No amendments were considered, debate was limited, and, as usual, few representatives actually read the bill before voting on it.

This carelessness is apparent in the practical force of the law proposed – that in violation of the USA Constitution’s Article I Section I, Article II Section I, Article III Section I, and Amendment IV, bureaucrats in executive agencies are granted even more power to write rules, judge their efficacy and infractions, and at least recommend, and ultimately execute, new actions as already imposed upon Americans as by the ERAD device, without warrant, probably cause, or conviction of any crime. Furthermore, ETATTA expands the role of the Treasury’s power of spying and enforcement to non-monetary assets – essentially encompassing all property.

Politicians have blurred the lines between good-guy and bad-guy, dividing us by class and race, imprisoning a higher percentage of citizens than any other nation, and making us less secure and prosperous to boot.

In other words, government has become what it’s supposed to protect us from.

I have a plan to restore respect for the badge and restore faith in all our important institutions. It’s an already well-respected plan to not only police the police and govern government, but also to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.
Liberty or Bust!

Trump’s Acceptance Speech

Trump’s Acceptance Speech

by Carl Thomas

Donald Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention was too long — 75 minutes — and too loud. Modulation is the key to good public speaking. One’s voice should rise and fall like the tide, which allows really important points to be made whether the volume is low or high. His adult children are better speakers.

Having said that, Trump hit mostly high notes — the country is on the wrong track. The latest Real Clear Politics data shows 69.3 percent of those surveyed believe we’re on the wrong track. One has to go back to the ’70s and Jimmy Carter to see similar numbers.

Crime and violence are serious concerns. Trump promised to be a “law and order” president, specifics to come. Many believe race relations have deteriorated since President Obama took office. The police are under attack. Poor children are trapped in failing public schools and Democrats won’t let them escape. Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, promise school choice. Terrorism is on the rise at home and overseas. Instead of focusing on battle readiness, our depleted military focuses on the inclusion of transgender and women soldiers. Veterans are not being adequately cared for.

Speaking to blue collar “Reagan Democrats,” who haven’t had a significant pay raise in years, or who are unemployed or underemployed, thanks to the policies of the Obama administration, Trump said, “I am your voice.”

Whether Republicans are united enough to win the election remains to be seen, but the left, the establishment and the media are united in their opposition to Trump. They claim Trump is playing on fears, but they have fears of their own; fear of losing control of government and their lucrative positions.

Fear is not a bad emotion to arouse if it is based on genuine threats and there are plenty of those, as anyone paying the slightest attention can attest.

Liberal media coverage and commentary on the convention was mostly the same. Friday’s headlines, editorials and columns in various publications exposed not just bias, but the fear the media have in losing their influence.

Here are just a few samples: “Mr. Trump’s Apocalypse Now” (Washington Post editorial). “A Foreign Policy Wrecking Ball” (second Post editorial). “Seeking Victory by scaring the country to death” (columnist E.J. Dionne Jr.)

The predictable New York Times also had a lead editorial about “Donald Trump’s Campaign of Fear.” Columnist David Brooks wrote about “The Death of the Republican Party.” Online, the column headline read “Make America Hate Again,” just in case readers didn’t get the message. A front-page “news analysis” in the Times speaks of Trump’s alleged “Failed Chance to Humanize Outsize Image.”

A column by Matthew Continetti in the Washington Free Beacon was headlined “The Demagogue Rises.” Batman, call your office.

Like the definition of love in the book and film “Love Story,” being a liberal means never having to say you’re sorry about your failed programs and failed philosophy. That’s because liberalism is not based on results, but on feelings and intentions. Trump is saying the left has failed and liberals don’t like the prospect of being held accountable for the damage they’ve done to America.

That’s why the media will stage a love-in for Hillary Clinton and all things Democrat at their Philadelphia convention. Don’t expect a question like this: “Your party has spent huge amounts of money on the poor and yet there are about as many poor people today as when the War on Poverty began half a century ago. Same with education. Isn’t it time to try something else?”

You won’t hear that question because the left thinks the problem is that government isn’t taxing, spending and regulating enough. That attitude has fueled the rise of Donald Trump and some like me, who were once skeptical of him, would like to see Trump shake up Washington, if only to watch the expressions on the smug faces of the left.

Easter Seals Hopes “Hope Days” Incentive Sells 995 Tickets Before Thursday Car-Cash Raffle Drawing

0

The Easter Seals “Cool Car, Cold Cash” Contest entry deadline is this Thursday (July 28) at noon (CDT), and approximately 995 of the original 3,500 tickets are still unsold.

Raffle proceeds are essential for the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center to fund life-changing therapy sessions for local individuals with disabilities.  So in an effort to sell the remaining chances, the nonprofit is offering ticket buyers an opportunity to win a “bonus” entry in the drawing, which will award a grand prize of a new 2016 Nissan Versa or $15,000, second prize of $5,000 and third prize of $1,000.

Anyone purchasing a ticket 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, July 25, or Tuesday, July 26, and saying the word “HOPE” will be entered into a drawing to win an extra ticket. The extra ticket winner will be drawn immediately before the grand prize drawing on Thursday.

“Cool Car, Cold Cash” tickets are $50 each or three for $100.  To purchase tickets 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday or Tuesday:

  • Call 812-474-2348 or 812-437-2607 to pay from a checking or savings account (NO credit or debit cards)
  • Visit the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center, 3701 Bellemeade Avenue, Evansville, IN, 47714 to pay with cash, check, money order or debit card (NO credit cards)

Tickets will continue to be available in person at the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center and by phone (812-474-2348 or 812-437-2607) Wednesday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Thursday 8 a.m.-12 noon.  However, the chance to win the extra ticket ends Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Easter Seals estimates that approximately 2,505 tickets have been sold since raffle sales began in May.  The grand prize drawing was postponed once in an effort to sell additional tickets, but it will not be rescheduled again.

Last year, 3,290 tickets were in the final drawing and approximately $99,000 was raised for therapy.  Easter Seals’ goal for this year is to raise $101,000 to fund physical, occupational and speech therapy for tri-state children and adults with disabilities who couldn’t otherwise afford it.

The raffle drawing at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center is open to the public, but ticket buyers donot have to be present to win.  Tickets may be purchased by individuals or groups.  Entrants must be at least 18 years old.  All sold tickets are verified and the drawing is supervised by the accounting firm Kemper CPA Group.

2016 Vanderburgh County 4H Fair BeginsToday

0

The 96th annual Vanderburgh County 4H Fair gets underway this Monday, July 25, 2016. With shows, music, rides, races, pageants, contests, exhibits and food the 4H fair truly has something for everyone.  Over 45,000 people are expected to attend this year.

The Sheriff’s Office tent will again be located near the fairgrounds main office. Please stop by and meet the men and women of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office bicycle patrol unit will be on hand throughout the entire fair week.

Sheriff Dave Wedding would like everyone to have a great time at the fair and be safe. “Fairgoers need to remember that farm machinery and livestock can be dangerous if not treated with respect. The potential for an accident exists anytime you bring heavy equipment, large animals and crowds of people together.” Sheriff Wedding added, “Please watch your speed as you drive in designated parking areas. Be on the lookout for pedestrians and children that may dart unexpectedly from a row of cars.”

The Sheriff’s Office asks that fairgoers respect marked boundaries and warning signs. Please keep an eye on small children and don’t permit them to become separated from the group. The Sheriff’s Office tent will be passing out wristbands for small children to wear that will allow deputies or firefighters to call a missing parent on their cellphone. Last year’s fair resulted in a few minor cuts and scrapes, mostly related to trips and falls. The hot weather did cause a few people to overexert themselves. This year’s forecast calls for a high of 89 degrees. Fairgoers are reminded to stay hydrated and avoid direct sunlight for extended periods.

Thunderstorms are forcasted for this year’s fair, please be aware of the dangers of lightning. Pay attention to the fair’s public address system for warnings and instructions. The safest place to be in a lightning storm is inside your car with the windows closed or inside a structure. Do not stand under a tree or touch any conductive surfaces (e.g. leaning against a building or sitting on grandstand bleachers).

Many of the events at the 4H Fair feature off-highway vehicles that are not equipped with mufflers. The sound can easily exceed 115 decibels. At this level, hearing damage can result in less than 30 minutes of exposure. Fairgoers who are planning on attending events at the 4H arena are reminded to bring adequate hearing protection for themselves and their children.

A contingent of Sheriff’s deputies and Scott Township Fire Department firefighters and paramedics will be present throughout the fairgrounds to address any security or safety concerns. The Indiana State Police will be providing traffic control on US 41.

General Fair Rules:

  • Firearms are not permitted.
  • Coolers and backpacks are subject to inspection.
  • No glass containers are permitted.
  • The sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages is not allowed.
  • No fireworks are permitted.
  • Skateboards or roller skates are prohibited.
  • All livestock must remain in designated areas.
  • Animals (excluding service animals and Pokémon) not registered for an event or function are not permitted.
  • Parking is only allowed in designated areas.
  • Please follow the instructions of 4H fair staff members.

Hamilton ‘stoked’ overseeing meet-leading Asmussen barn; Von Hemel reflects on Clever Trevor, whose last win came at Ellis

0

HENDERSON, KY. (July 24, 2016) — Christy Hamilton wasn’t sure what to expect when her boss called to say her Indiana Grand stable was relocating to Ellis Park.
Hamilton, after being an exercise rider and barn foreman, this year became an assistant trainer to new Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen’s far-flung operation. She moved 18 horses in Indiana to Ellis shortly before the meet began. Now Hamilton is in charge of 38 horses and Asmussen is the leading trainer with six wins out of 23 starts, along with four seconds and two thirds, heading into Sunday’s card.
“I am stoked with the meet we’re having,” Hamilton said. “The surface here is phenomenal. My horses are training great; they’re working great. Every time I lead one over, it’s like, ‘we’re live.’ I don’t go over thinking this is just another race. We’re going over to get our picture taken.”
Ellis Park had hoped that with its enhanced purses that the better races would reliably get enough entries to be used. That had become a problem at Indiana Grand, Hamilton said.
“Here, I’m getting to run my horses that were sitting on tilt ready to go ,” she said. “The horses that came here with me, they’re ready. I couldn’t be happier. Looking at the statistics and seeing 26 percent win and 50-something in the money, that means my horses are showing up on race day. They’re not leaving anything out there. That means something.
“… Coming here, with more horses, it’s just a huge opportunity and one I greatly appreciate. It’s an opportunity that doesn’t come along very often. I’ve got some very, very nice horses here – some very nice babies, very nice maidens, allowance horses. Clearly I don’t have the Saratoga horses. But the horses here are some of the better caliber horses in the area.”
Speaking by phone, Asmussen said he actually “sent some of the wrong horses at first” to Ellis. “We’ve sent some more over after the Lone Star meet, he said. “… We’re getting in a little bit better rhythm now than right off the bat. The boost in purses have allowed us to run a decent maiden or condition horse, and that has been our meet so far.”
Asmussen and Hamilton come from racing families based in the Southwest. In fact, Hamilton worked for Asmussen’s parents before joining his operation. “I’ve known her forever,” he said. “The thing that resonates with me is that she’s from a racing family.”
The 32-year-old Hamilton, from a family of jockeys and whose ex-husband is jockey Quincy Hamilton, worked for Asmussen for nine years before being tabbed an assistant.  A year ago, she sustained three fractures a leg in a freak training mishap at Lone Star Park in Texas.
Two of the fractures went through the entire bone. The doctors said she wouldn’t be riding for six to eight months. She was back galloping a horse with doctors’ clearance 78 days after the mishap, she said.
“I love my job,” she said. “I love working with these horses. They are my four-legged babies. I wake up at 4 in the morning and on race days there are times that I don’t leave until 6:30 at night. It’s my life.
“Not only is Steve a great horseman, but he’s so professional in how he handles his business. Steve is the best of the best. But he’s also a family man, to see the way he is with his boys and his wife. It’s great to be around those kinds of people and that kind of atmosphere. You learn so much not just on a professional level but a family level, what it is for everything to come together and what it means to these people. To be a part of it is very special.”
Hamilton has an 11-year-old daughter, Emma, and 9-year-old son, Carter. After spending the summer with their mom, they recently returned to Oklahoma, where they live during the school year with their dad.
“My daughter is determined to become a veterinarian. She already asked several veterinarians when she was with me this summer if she could shadow them for a day,” Hamilton said, adding with a laugh, “My son is kind of like, ‘It’s a horse. I’ll play on the iPad.’ And that’s OK. He’s more into sports, into baseball.”
Von Hemel reflects on Clever Trevor
Not surprisingly for a horse that ran at 16 different racetracks, there’s an Ellis Park angle to Clever Trevor, the millionaire Oklahoma-bred gelding who helped launch trainer Donnie K. Von Hemel into national prominence. Clever Trevor died recently at age 31, spending his retirement at Von Hemel’s farm in Oklahoma. Among his 15 victories out of 30 starts was Ellis’ $50,000 Governor’s Handicap in 1992.
“It was my first trip to Ellis,” Von Hemel said as he prepared to run two horses Sunday at the track. “It was a fun day. If I remember right, he was up on the lead and had a couple of horses run at him and he held them off. At the time you didn’t know it was going to be his last win.”
Clever Trevor ran twice more, finishing second by a nose in what proved his career finale in Arlington’s Washington Park Handicap. The plan was to try him on turf, but Clever Trevor developed some front-foot issues and the decision was made to retire him. He finished with a 15-5-2 mark and earnings of $1,388,841 spread over five seasons while taking on all comers. That included finishing second in Saratoga’s 1989 Travers to Hall of Famer Easy Goer and second and third behind two-time champion Housebuster in top East Coast sprint stakes.
“His last couple of races they were still 110-type Beyer (speed figure) races,” Von Hemel said. “He was just a high-quality animal, even after knee surgeries after his 3-year-old year, his 4-year-old year and 5-year-old year. Chips in both knees. He ran into some tough ones, but he never disappointed — always came to run.
“… He was the first really national horse I had, and at a point in my career when Remington Park (near Oklahoma City) had just started. It really helped me get going, not only at Remington but across the nation. Just great people who owned him, the McNeill family. Just members you’ll cherish the rest of your life.”
Making of a racehorse: Let’s Get Started!
Did you know?: That racehorses breaking from the starting gate aren’t reacting to the bell you hear, but rather are taught to react to the movement of the front doors to their stall in the gate.
The public can learn that and more at the free July 30 fan event “Making of a racehorses: Let’s Get Started!” presented by Ellis Park and the Kentucky division of the Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association. The event begins at 7:30 AM CT in Ellis’ southern most parking lot by the schooling gate, near the Ohio River levee. After Scott Jordan, the Ellis and Churchill Downs starter, discusses the process of teaching young horses to break from the starting gate, fans will go to third-generation Ellis Park trainer John Hancock’s barn. Also talking with fans with be 2015 Ellis riding champion Didiel Osorio, who will give out signed goggles, and his agent, Jose Santos Jr., son of the Hall of Fame jockey who won the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness on Funny Cide.
Jordan will explain the horsemanship involved in working on the starting gate and how his crew must read horses as individuals, both for schooling and the races.
“All the guys have come up in the horse world,” he said. “They didn’t come off the street and learn to work the gate. They all have horse backgrounds whether it’s galloping, riding, training, even grooming. And they’ve all learned to read a horse along the way.
“When a horse comes to the gate, you can look at their eyes, look at their ears, see if they’re nervous. I don’t have to tell those guys, ‘Let’s slow down.’ They are all horsemen and do it on their own. They know what to do.”
Corey countdown: Jockey Corey Lanerie came into Sunday’s races with 3,996 victories. He has five scheduled mounts today: the third, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth.
