Roberts Earns Second GLVC Weekly Honor of 2016

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women’s Cross Country junior Emily Roberts (Fredericktown, Ohio, Michigan) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Runner of the Week after a 21st-place finish at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic.

Roberts finished the 5k Gold Race with a time of 17 minutes, 20.60 seconds to help the Screaming Eagles to a 16th-place finish overall and a second-place finish among NCAA Division II schools.

Senior Jessica Reeves (Midland, Michigan) was the last Eagle to win the weekly GLVC award after her third place finish at the Spartan Invite.

In the first week of the season, Roberts was awarded the weekly accolade after taking the top spot at the Gabby Reuveni Early Bird in St. Louis, Missouri.

Both USI cross country programs return to action Saturday, October 8 at the Conference Crossover hosted by Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. The women’s 6k will begin at 10 a.m., while the men’s 8k follows at 10:45 a.m.

Gray shoots 1-under 69 in final round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Tyler Gray shot a 1-under 69 on Tuesday to earn the win at the Butler Fall Invitational as the University of Evansville men’s golf team took second place in the event at  Highland Country Club.

Gray’s round of a 1-under 69 was his lowest round of the event and gave him a 210 over the course of the tournament.  He defeated UIndy’s Evan Stoker by one stroke.  Gray opened the event with rounds of 71 and 70 on Monday.

All five Purple Aces finished in the top 21 as the team took second place on the team side.  Evansville posted an 855 over the three rounds while the University of Indianapolis notched an 854.  Both teams had strong efforts in the final rounds as Indianapolis notched a 284 with Evansville carding a 287.  Those were the lowest team rounds of the day.

Second for UE was Wil Pahud.  His 72 on Tuesday gave him a 213 for the event, tying him for sixth place.  Sophomore Zac Turi had another solid round of play.  After shooting a career-low 69 in the opening round, Turi recorded a 74 to finish with a 218.  He tied for 13th.

One shot behind Turi was Noah Reese.  A 75 in the final round saw Reese post a 219 for the tournament, tying for 16th.  Rounding out the team was Matthew Ladd, who had his best round of the weekend.  He shot a 72 to tie for 21st place with a 222.

Cameron Weyer led the individuals for the Purple Aces.  A 2-under 68 on Tuesday saw Weyer rocket up the leaderboard to tie for 6th with a score of 213.  Jon Pick also brought home a stellar finish.  His final round of 75 gave him a total of 217, good for a 12th place finish.

Austin Carmack fired off a 76 on the final day to tie for 27th with a 226 while Robert Waggoner took 48th place with a 241.

A busy stretch continues for the Aces as they travel to Morganton, N.C. next Monday and Tuesday for the Don

Aces Improve in Final Day at MVC Preview

Katterhenry tops the squad

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Kayla Katterhenry was the low shooter of the day as the University of Evansville women’s golf team completed the MVC Preview on Tuesday at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Katterhenry shot a 75 in Tuesday’s final round to finish in a tie for 22nd with a final score of 228.  Her rounds on Monday checked in at 77 and 76.  Maggie Camp was second for the Purple Aces.  Scores of 77 in the last two rounds saw her finish the event with a 238, good for a 49th place finish.

Third on the squad was Madison Chaney.  She tied for 62nd with a final score of 243.  Her top round of the event was in the second trip around the course where she registered a 77.  Giulia Mallmann carded an 86 on Tuesday to finish with a 256 while Maria Pickens completed the event with a 268.

As a team, Evansville moved up to 12th place with a 965.  Taking top honors on the team side was Murray State with an 871.  Their dominant effort continued as they defeated UMKC by 13 shots.  Taryn Torgerson of Wichita State was the medalist.  Her final of 213 gave her the championship by one str

A red-hot University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team comes home this weekend on a program-best seven-game winning streak, ranked 19th in the NSCAA Top 25 poll, and with the opportunity to play the NCAA Division II number one ranked team. USI (9-1-0, 7-1-0 GLVC) starts the home weekend by hosting William Jewell College (2-8-0, 2-6-0 GLVC) Friday at 7:30 p.m. before welcoming number one ranked and GLVC-leading Rockhurst University (9-0-1, 7-0-1 GLVC) Sunday at noon.

Week 6 Eagle Notes: 
USI enters the top 25 poll; For the first time since 1990, the Eagles are ranked in the NSCAA Division II Top 25 poll, entering the poll at number 19. USI finished the 1990 season 19th nationally and were ranked as high as 18th during that fall.

Eagles off to best start: The Screaming Eagles are off the best start in program history with a red-hot 9-1-0 overall mark in 2016, 7-1-0 in the GLVC. They surpassed the start of the 1982 squad, which was the only USI men’s soccer team to advance to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 1982.

Winning Streak: USI extended its winning streak to seven matches last weekend, tying the team record set by the 1990 and 1991 teams.

Second consecutive road trip sweep:  The Eagles swept last weekend’s two-match road trip by defeating Saint Joseph’s College, 2-0, and the University of Indianapolis, 1-0. The last time USI has won four-straight road matches was 1988.

Zehme named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week after sweep: Junior goalkeeper Adam Zehme(Orland Park, Illinois) was named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week after posting a pair of road shutouts last weekend. The junior goalkeeper made 10 saves in winning his career-best eighth and ninth matches of the year. Zehme has recorded shutouts in four of the last five USI matches and is one away from tying his career-high of five set last season.

Giving the Assist: Junior midfielder Kyle Richardville (Vincennes, Indiana), freshman midfielder Sean Rickey (Columbia, Illinois), and freshman midfielder Adam Becker (Columbia, Illinois) have four assists apiece to lead the Eagles and tie for fifth in the GLVC.

Ramirez close to having best freshman year:  Freshman forward Eric Ramirez (Vincennes, Indiana) has eight goals through the first nine matches and is closing in on one of the best freshmen seasons in USI history. UE Women’s Golf Finishes Opening Day at MVC Preview

Aces in 13th place

 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – With two rounds in the books at the MVC Preview, the University of Evansville women’s golf team ranks in 13th place on the leaderboard at Dalhousie Country Club.

Evansville was led by Kayla Katterhenry, who ranks in a tie for 31st place.  She stands at a +9 153 following the first two rounds of play.  She began the day with a 77 before carding a 4-over 76 in the second round.

Next up was Madison Chaney.  Rounds of 80 and 77 have her in a tie for 50th with a 157.  She stands at 13 over par.  Third on the squad was Maggie Camp.  After posting an 84 in the first round, she improved her score by seven strokes to a 77.  Her score checks in at a 161.

Giulia Mallmann finished the opening day with rounds of 86 and 84.  Rounding out the squad were Lexie Sollman and Maria Pickens.  Sollman registered rounds of 91 and 86 to finish the day with a 177 while Pickens’ 94 and 86 have her sitting at a 180.

There is a 3-way tie atop the individual leaderboard as Taryn Torgerson (Wichita State), Cynthia Diaz (UMKC) and Beth Ann Compton (Arkansas State) each have scores of 141 entering Tuesday’s final round.

On the team side, Murray State completed the day with a 581, just five over par.  UMKC is six behind in second place while Arkansas State is in third place, 12 strokes off the lead.

Aces have 2-shot lead going into final round

 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Tyler Gray and Wil Pahud are tied for second place on the individual leaderboard as the University of Evansville men’s golf team leads the way at the Butler Invitational at Highland Country Club.

With two out of three rounds completed, the Purple Aces sit with 568 strokes, two ahead of UIndy and three in front of Butler.  In the opening round, UE shot a 278, the lowest round of the day for any team in the field.

Pacing the Aces were Tyler Gray and Wil Pahud.  Gray opened the tournament with a 1-over 71 before shooting an even par in the second round to stand with a 141.  Pahud began the day with an even 70 before firing off a 71 in the second round.

Standing in a tie for 11th place is the duo of Zac Turi and Noah Reese.  Turi had his best day of college play on Monday, shooting a 1-under 69 in the first round.  He followed that up with a 75 to stand with a 144.  Reese was even better in the first round.  He posted a 2-under 68 before notching a 76 to sit with a 144.

Freshman Matthew Ladd also had a solid day at the office.  Following a 76, Ladd carded a 74 in the second round to complete the day with a 150.  He is tied for 29th.

Evansville’s individuals also had stellar days.  Jon Pick is tied for sixth place.  His efforts of 70 and 72 gave him a 142 for the day.  Three behind him was Cameron Weyer, who notched rounds of 73 and 72 to stand at a 145.  Austin Carmack is tied for 29th place following rounds of 74 and 76 while Robert Waggoner finished the day with a 159 (79-80).

Patrick Allgeier of Butler is the top individual.  His rounds of 71 and 69 have him one ahead of Pahud and Gray with a 140.

One more round of action is set for Tuesday morning starting at 8:30 a.m. ET.
