FIRST RESPONDERS TURN THIER BACKS ON MAYOR AT PARADE

FIRST RESPONDERS TURN THIER BACKS ON MAYOR  AND HIS WIFE AT PARADE

We were just informed that a large group (around 100 people) of Evansville “First Responders” and members of their families turned their backs on Mayor Winnecke and his wife Carol McClintock in a peaceful protest during the Westside Nut Club Fall Festival parade this afternoon.

We are told the reason why members of Evansville Police and Fire departments and members of their families  turned their backs on the Mayor during the parade was because they feel that he turned his back on them concerning the proposed 2017 City Employee Healthcare program adjustments during the current budget hearings.

Members of the Police and Fire Departments also told us they aren’t going to allow Financial Chairman and 1st Ward Councilman Dan McGinn (R) and 2nd Ward Council President Missy Mosby (D) to stop them from speaking at this coming City Council meeting on Monday.

They predict that Mondays nights Council meeting will be jam packed disgruntled Police and Fire members and supporters demanding that City Council leadership allow them to speak their minds concerning the problems of the proposed 2017 City Employee Healthcare program adjustments

This is a developing story.

A REPOSTED LETTER TO THE CCO EDITOR FROM GAIL RIECKEN OF MAY 16, 2015

1

EDITORS NOTE:  We were looking back in our achieves looking for old articles concerning city finances and came across this most interesting letter that Mayoral candidate Gail Riecken sent us.  We find this letter to be extremely appropriate in todays discussion concerning the 2017 City Budget short falls because of the poor spending decisions and practices of our current Mayor and  City Council.

We look forward to an open and lively discussion concerning Ms. Riecken  (visionary) concerns published on May 16, 2015 concerning the future Ivy Tech’s exclusion from the IU Medical  Center project and the city’s dependency on Riverboat revenue.

ATTACHED BELOW IS GAIL RECKONS MAY 16, 2016 LETTER TO THE EDITORL

Dear Voters

Because I continue to be genuinely grateful for the show of support from the Democrat voters on Primary Election Day, allow me to extend yet another heartfelt “thank you.” Your reaction to my candidacy continues to motivate me and underscore my commitment to serve this great city.

I am not alone in failing to understand Ivy Tech’s exclusion from the IU Med Center project. I am hearing from an increasing number of residents who find this decision to be illogical. The bigger question is, “How does spending $80 million to serve 400 students make sense?”

Discussion at the City Council meeting this past Monday was both substantive and enlightening. Allowing for a timely and open discussion of fund balances and transfer of funds between accounts can only help both city leaders and the public have a “hard time” understanding of the city’s true financial picture. It goes without saying that moving funds among accounts has been done by prior administrations.

However, recent State Board of Accounts audit reports and the lack of clarity over the city’s financial situation have served to shake the public’s trust. Public discussion of the reasons behind the need to move money between accounts and the timeframe will give taxpayers a better understanding and greater confidence.

My administration will be centered on transparency and openness, especially in the critical area of public finance.

The discussion Monday also served to underscore the city’s dependency on riverboat revenue, a scenario Democrat Mayor Frank McDonald warned against when he steered the city through the passage of the state’s riverboat legislation, the referendum and subsequent selection of the company to establish Indiana’s first riverboat casino business in Evansville.

We must look back to the admonishments made by responsible city leaders who feared a time when the casino could float away, leaving dwindling municipal accounts that had been bolstered by gaming revenue. With our riverboat casino now able to move to land, we need to review Mayor McDonald’s well-stated commitment to avoid reliance on riverboat money for operational expenses, even though the possibility of “floating away” is now ending.

As always, thanks to my volunteer team, which continues to work diligently. Their work in the field, on the phone and in planning for the many upcoming events is greatly appreciated. Neil Woods is a valuable asset and a great friend who is ensuring that my campaign will be represented at all Neighborhood Associatoin Meetings..

A List Of $27 Million Dollars Of “Honorariums” That Hillary Clinton Received For Speeches Given During 2013-2015

123

POSTED BELOW IS A LIST OF  $27 Million Dollars Worth Of “HONORARIUMS”  THAT HILLARY CLINTON RECEIVED FROM SPEECHES OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS

LAST SATURDAYS OUOTES FROM THE WASHINGTON POST ARTICLE

Last Saturday the Washington Post run an article on this issue stating the following; “Clinton, for instance, described her free-trade ambitions during a 2013 appearance before an Italian banking group. Records show the group, Itaú BBA USA Securities, paid her $225,000”.

“Clinton, who was paid more than $20 million for speeches between 2013 and 2015, had said she would “look into” releasing the transcripts — but she never has indicated any plans to do so. While Clinton has attacked Trump for refusing to release his tax returns, some critics have pointed to the speeches by Clinton as evidence that she, too, has not been fully transparent with voters.“My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders,” she said, according to an email first reported by BuzzFeed.

Over the last several weeks  a local TV station have been running an ad claiming that Hillary Clinton has received about $22 Million Dollars in “Honorariums” for speeches she given over the last several years.

The national main stream media is seemly going nuts that Hillary Clinton took three big paychecks for speeches giving to a gathering at Goldman Sachs.At $225,000 a pop.

It looks like the television ads placed in the local TV station may be accurate.  It looks like that Hillary Clinton have been extremely busy raking in millions of dollars in “Honorariums”  for speeches given since she left her post as Secretary of State.

When asked about the“Honorariums” by the media she received for speeches he made during the last several years her responses extremely interesting.  It varies from “It’s what they offered me” to the hilarious “I happen to think we need more conversations about what’s going on in the world.”Pricey “conversations” indeed?
Attached is a list of speeches for pay that HILLARY CLINTON has given during the past several years. The Grand Total is  $21.7 Million Dollars.

Law Professor Calls For Selby To Be Confirmed To 7th Circuit

Law Professor Calls For Selby To Be Confirmed To 7th Circuit

Marilyn Odendahl for www.theindianalawyer.com

With the U.S. Senate adjourned until after the presidential election and the chances for judicial confirmations dwindling, an article just published by a Virginia law professor calls for former Indiana Supreme Court Justice Myra Selby to be appointed to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

University of Richmond School of Law professor Carl Tobias described Selby as an “exceptional consensus nominee” who has “resolved diverse, pressing matters with nuanced solutions,” in his article, “Confirm Myra Selby for the Seventh Circuit.” The piece appears in volume 92 of the Indiana Law Journal published by the Indiana University Maurer School of Law.

Selby was nominated by President Barack Obama in January 2016 to fill Indiana’s 7th Circuit seat which has been vacant since Judge John Tinder retired in February 2015. Since then, her nomination has stalled as Senate Republicans have slammed the brakes on judicial confirmation process.

The Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, has not held a hearing to elicit her testimony and consider her qualifications. Primarily the delay is traced to Indiana Republican Sen. Dan Coats not supporting her candidacy. Instead, Coats has advocated for the creation of an Indiana Federal Nominating Commissions to review and recommend individuals for the 7th Circuit vacancy.

Glenn Sugameli, attorney and founder of the group Judging the Environment, believes the nominees for the circuit courts who have passed through the committee could still get a vote by the full Senate before the end of the year.

However, floor votes for circuit nominees have slowed to a trickle in the upper chamber. In 2015, the Senate confirmed only Kara Farnandez Stoll for the Federal Circuit and thus far in 2016, only L. Felipe Restrepo has been elevated to the 3rd Circuit.

Tobias, in his article, maintains there is still time to get Selby through. He writes if Indiana Democratic Sen. Joe Donnelly can persuade Coats to support the former Indiana justice, the committee, working quickly, could get the nomination to the Senate floor. If Coats does not reconsider, a review panel, like the Indiana Republican wants, could possibly be established and still complete its task with enough time for the Senate to vote.

“Many reasons demonstrate why Selby ought to have a prompt floor debate and ballot,” Tobias writes. “The Majority Leader (Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky) should implement the regular order that he constantly praises and honor distinctly relevant 2008 precedent. If McConnell, nonetheless, refuses to arrange Selby’s debate and vote, the nominee’s proponents must aggressively pursue cloture.”

In September, Marion County Bar Association president Roxana Bell and board member Noell Allen traveled to Washington, D.C., to take part in a press conference on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court. The event was sponsored by the We Need Nine campaign, which is pushing to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court left by the sudden death of Justice Anton Scalia.

Bell and Allen drew attention to the growing number of empty seats across the federal bench. Currently, the judiciary has 98 total vacancies and 59 pending nominees. Returning to Indianapolis, Allen noted that Selby has been waiting longer than U.S. Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland for a confirmation vote.

In addition, Allen questioned the reason for the delay in considering Selby. Coats has said the reason to convene a review commission is because the 7th Circuit vacancy has not been deemed a judicial emergency.

“Why are we waiting for an emergency to happen,” Allen asked, noting the seat remains open and Selby is ready, willing and able to serve.

Currently, three nominees for the circuit courts are awaiting floor votes including Donald Schott, who was nominated for the Wisconsin vacancy on the 7th Circuit. The other candidates are Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl for the 8th Circuit, and Lucy Koh for the 9th Circuit.

Schott was nominated for the circuit court on the same day as Selby. Both Wisconsin senators, Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat Tammy Baldwin, support Schott. The judiciary committee approved his nomination in a 13-7 bipartisan vote June 16, 2016.

Sugameli said Schott could be a floor vote after the presidential election. But he is more confident that Winfield Ong will be confirmed for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Ong was nominated in January 2016 to fill the seat of Judge Sarah Evans Barker, who took senior status in June 2014. The judiciary committee unanimously approved Ong’s nomination in June 2016.

Coats is supporting Ong’s nomination because the Southern District vacancy has been labeled a judicial emergency.

“I’m still optimistic,” Sugameli said of the potential for judicial nominees to be confirmed. “There is such a need to fill long-term vacancies, many of which have been declared judicial emergencies, and so many home state Republican senators pushing for (the nominees), I think there will be a critical mass to push for action.”

HELPING TRUMP ISN’T EASY

Making Sense by Michael Reagan

Donald Trump actually looked like a statesman in Mexico City Wednesday afternoon.

It didn’t matter what he and the president of Mexico talked about.

It didn’t even matter if they made a secret handshake deal to split the cost of building the great Wall of Trump.

For the first time in his long campaign, Trump actually looked presidential. The visual gravitas didn’t last long, though.

Six hours later in Arizona the old Trump was back, reading a speech from the teleprompter and throwing big slabs of U.S. Prime red meat to his hardcore fan base.

He erased all thoughts that he was headed to a kinder, gentler place on immigration, which, unfortunately, remains the signature issue of his campaign.

Not only did he promise to build his wall taller and deeper and stronger, and make Mexico pay for it, but he also promised to get tougher on illegal immigrants in every way.

That’s great. But Trump —- and his campaign —- still don’t get it.

He’s still pounding away at immigration when he should be talking about the economy, Obamacare and making the country safe.

His tough stand on immigration is what won him the Republican primary. It’s what keeps his hardcore base applauding and cheering for him at his rallies.

But he doesn’t have to pander to that base anymore.

He also doesn’t need to be boosting Fox’s ratings every night by appearing with his soulmates Greta, Bill and Sean.

He doesn’t need to please the conservative Fox audience anymore, either, who tune in to see everyone beat up on Hillary. They’re already in his bag of votes.

How hard is this? Trump needs to address all those people out there who are not part of his base —- people who aren’t Republicans but who dislike Hillary enough to vote for him because of issues like the economy or trust.

Speaking to a black audience this weekend and pointing out how the Democrat Party has failed blacks for 50 years is the right idea.

He has to do more of that. Next, I’d like to see him shaking hands at a corner taco stand in L.A. After that, he should show up on CNN and even PBS, if they’ll have him.

He needs to eat away at Hillary’s base. And that means talking about the economy, jobs and lying Hillary’s personal failings, which are huge.

Trump’s campaign staff had a good week.

But calling Hillary a bigot because she takes the black vote for granted was a total waste of time. It’s not going to win Trump votes in November.

When I tried to tell the Trump team that in a tweet this week, the response I got from a campaign operative in Trump Tower was, “Oh, are you on the Hillary Clinton payroll?

That’s the common response from Trumpsters and the campaign’s brain trust. If you say anything critical they say, “You must be on Hillary’s payroll.”

They don’t want my advice, but everything I’ve said about Trump’s campaign has been proven to be true.

I told them not to hire Paul Manafort to run the campaign. But they did —- and then had to fire him.

I told them long ago Trump had to soften his approach to Latinos —- and eventually he did. I think.

I refuse to be a Trump enabler. I’ve decided to be a consultant to him via Twitter or my columns.

But when I criticize Trump’s campaign I get grief from his followers and his campaign people for being a Hillary lover.

When I told my father in 1980 to fire Paul Manafort and the rest of his campaign team because I could see they were losing the Iowa caucuses to George H.W. Bush, did that mean I was a supporter of Jimmy Carter?

No.

There are too many major differences between Trump and my father to count. But one difference is that my father had the sense to listen to me when I gave him good advice.

Scholarship Opportunity

0

Dear Friend,

The single most important factor in student success is an outstanding teacher in the classroom.

In order to attract more of Indiana’s best and brightest to the teaching profession, I supported a new law creating the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship for high school students who want to be educators.

[Click here to Tweet about this new scholarship]

Beginning Nov. 1, both incoming and current college students studying education can apply for the scholarship, which awards $7,500 per year toward college costs to those who commit to teaching in Indiana’s public or private schools for five years after graduating.

The scholarship is available to 200 students statewide each year who either graduate in the top 20 percent of their class or earn a score in the top 20th percentile on the SAT or ACT. While in college, students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and complete at least 30 credit hours per year to continue receiving the grant. Graduates must obtain their teaching license and teach in Indiana for five consecutive years.

Students interested in applying need to be nominated by a teacher and submit the nomination form to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Students are encouraged to complete the nomination form before the application opens.

Visit LearnMoreIndiana.org/NextTeacher for more information.

Hoosier students hold the keys to Indiana’s future, and we will continue to work together to strengthen our commitment to students, teachers and schools.

Sincerely,

State Rep. Wendy McNa

#19 Eagles Fall To #1 Hawks in OT Thriller

0

In one of the most hard fought and thrilling matches in program history, the 19th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team fell short in overtime to top-ranked Rockhurst University, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI watched its record fall to 10-2-0 overall and 8-2-0 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst goes to 11-0-1, 9-0-1 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles, who are off to the best start in program history, saw its school-record winning streak end at eight games.

The Hawks opened the scoring with a goal at 31:40 of the first half to lead 1-0 after it was the Eagles who had been the most dangerous offensively to begin the match. USI, which had the first three shots of the match, was robbed of a goal early when freshman forward Eric Ramirez (Vincennes, Indiana) had a shot cleared out of the goal by the Hawks defense after looping a shot over the goalkeeper.

After Rockhurst carried the 1-0 lead through the intermission, USI got onto the scoreboard at 64:54 when junior midfielder Kyle Richardville (Vincennes, Indiana) headed in the equalizer to tie the match, 1-1. Richardville was assisted on his seventh goal of the season by freshman defender Drew Albert (Eureka, Missouri).

Both squads would have chances late in the second half, but would come up short as the game went into overtime. Rockhurst wasted little getting the game-winner in the extra period, scoring the “sudden victory” goal a 92:15 off the head of Rockhurst forward Kaleb Jackson.

Following today’s match with Rockhurst, the Eagles hit the road for three-straight matches. USI will travel to Drury University October 14; Missouri University of Science & Technology October 16; and McKendree University October 21 on the longest road trip of the year.
