Dr. Bucshon’s Statement on Meeting with President Trump

Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. released the following statement after President Donald Trump huddled with House Republicans to urge passage of the American Health Care Act.

 

“President Trump made it clear this morning that the plan we have put forward fulfills the promise he made – and members of Congress made – to repeal and replace Obamacare,” said Bucshon. “The American Health Care Act, which is on the House floor this week, is the first and necessary step in that process. I’m happy to have the full support of the President; and look forward to working with his administration, the Department of Health and Human Services, and my colleagues in Congress as we work to bring families relief from the Obamacare disaster.”

 

President Trump’s meeting with the House Republican Conference comes on the heels of his speech in Louisville last night where told supporters the American Health Care Act, “…is our long-awaited chance to finally get rid of Obamacare.”

Taylor played in CBL this season 

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Former University of Evansville men’s basketball player Troy Taylor has completed a stellar year at the next level as a member of the Canadian Basketball League.

The 2016 CBL Defensive Player of the Year averaged 17.4 points per game and 8.0 rebounds for Hamilton United.  In much the same fashion he did as a Purple Aces, Taylor was a beast on the boards as his 8 per game was third in the league and tops among guards.  The next guard on the rankings notched 6.2 per game.

Taylor’s stellar output in all facets of the game saw him finish second in Most Valuable Player voting.  His offensive game was working well as his 17.4 PPG was 7th on the leaderboard while his shooting – 53.6% – was also near the top.

On February 4, Taylor had his best professional game, notching 30 against Scarborough.  He also totaled 28 just a week earlier against Wellington.  On top of his scoring and rebounding, the Anderson, Ind. Native notched 6.9 assists and 2.6 steals over the course of the 14-game season.

Things are looking bright for the league as attendance was solid and it recently earned a television contract.

Sullivan Helps Raise $14K For College Scholarships

State Rep. Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville) announced today that POWER, Indiana’s women’s caucus, raised more than $14,000 for a scholarship program.

According to Sullivan, president of the organization, the money raised will be dedicated to the group’s scholarship program helping non-traditional female students attend college. Applications and disbursement will take place in 2018.

“I’m pleased to announce we raised $14,400 to be used for the scholarship fund,” Sullivan said. “A big thank you goes out to all of those who donated and bid on items during the auctions. This is a collaborative effort of all women in the House and Senate, Democrats and Republicans – working together for all women in our state.”

Many of the auction items involved activities with state lawmakers. For instance, participants bid on an opportunity to have dinner with state legislators including Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne), while State Rep. David Ober (R-Albion) was included in a package with an escape room excursion and meal.

POWER is a group of primarily female legislators who are interested in improving the quality of life for women and all citizens of Indiana.

Internationally recognized, four-time Grammy Award-winning singer, actress, and breast cancer “thriver” Olivia Newton-John to perform live in concert at the Victory Theatre, on Friday May 19, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

With a career spanning over five decades with more than 100 million albums sold, Olivia’s successes include four Grammys, numerous Country Music, American Music, Billboard and People’s Choice Awards, an Emmy Award, ten #1 hits and more than 15 top 10 singles. Conexus Indiana Endorses UE’s Logistics and Supply Chain Management Program

The University of Evansville Schroeder School of Business’s new logistics and supply chain management program (LSCM) has been endorsed by Conexus Indiana Logistics Council. UE plans to launch the program in the fall of 2018.

Conexus Indiana is a forum of Indiana executives and thought leaders representing air, infrastructure, rail trucking, warehouse/distribution, waterborne, and advanced manufacturing and service firms. The Schroeder School is the first private AACSB business school in Indiana to receive its endorsement.

UE Schroeder Family School of Business Dean Greg Rawski said the endorsement “continues the forward momentum we’ve created which connects our students to top Indiana logistics executives. It creates exciting opportunities. There is a 6:1 demand-to-supply ratio for new college graduates in the supply chain field, and our LSCM program will prepare students with the knowledge and skills desired by those employers.”

In addition to rigorous study, students in the program will participate in high level experiential learning opportunities. The Schroeder School of Business will create the center for logistics and supply chain management which will house experiential student programs and connect LSCM students to corporations. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 12-to-1, students will benefit from close faculty mentorship. Students will also attend a speaker series where they can learn from individuals with logistics and supply chain management experience.

In 2016, a UE student team took third place among 17 Indiana colleges in the Conexus Logistics Case Competition. These colleges, some with established LSCM programs, vied to develop the best solution to a logistics-related issue.

Yolanda Obaze, UE assistant professor of supply chain management, noted that the team’s placement was impressive considering their limited exposure to the field of logistics and supply chain management. The achievement, she said, is a good indication of future successes when UE’s new LSCM program is implemented.

Kayla Katterhenry ties for second in Tennessee

Aces place fifth in tournament

 Senior Kayla Katterhenry finished just one shot off of the lead as the University of Evansville women’s golf team earned a 5th place finish at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club.

A 3-over 74 on Tuesday saw Katterhenry finish one stroke behind medalist Elizabeth England of Carson-Newman.  Katterhenry’s efforts in the tournament saw her post a 3-round tally of 220.

Giulia Mallmann was second for the Purple Aces.  She carded an 84 in the final round and completed the tournament with a 246 to finish in 28th.  One behind her was Maggie Camp.  The senior registered an 83 to total 247 strokes in the tournament, good for a 29th-place tie.

Madison Chaney and Lexie Sollman completed the top five.  Chaney had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, scoring an 81 to tie for 32nd with a 250.  Sollman posted an 85 on her way to a 257.  She placed 38th.

Lee University took the team championship by 11 strokes over Tennessee Tech.  Lee posted an 895 while TTU finished at 906.  Belmont took third with a 916 while Carson-Newman (932) and UE (961) rounded out the top five.
