IS IT TRUE JANUARY 23, 2017
IS IT TRUE another bar has applied for a permit on West Franklin Street that has turned into the de facto entertainment district in the City of Evansville?…that if having multiple bars and restaurants all within walking distance of each other is the criteria to define an entertainment district then West Franklin has a 30 year lead,on downtown Evansville?…the issue with the new bar is that the ownership is running into obstructions?…it is widely alleged and has been reported that the obstructions with getting plans and permits approved is rooted in a competitor who would prefer not to have to deal with another bar on West Franklin?…we are sure that things will eventually work out for yet another bar on West Franklin but are disappointed at someone trying to appeal to the “good old boy” network to oppress competition?
IS IT TRUE President Donald Trump is expected to start off with a series of executive, actions with respect to eliminating executive actions of his predecessor Barack Obama?…it will be interesting to see if President Trump will learn to choose his battles and ignore nitwittery like attendance comparisons with past inaugurations?…President Obama set the record for a century with the estimated 1.8 Million people who saw him sworn in for the first time?…in the big picture of running the country it really doesn’t matter and we hope that President Trump will stop getting adversarial with a press that isn’t about to start liking him?
IS IT TRUE the singer/actor Madonna who once insulted the City of Evansville as looking like a communist run city when she was here filming “A League of Their Own” in the late 90s, has shown her backside one time too many?…Madonna went on a rant at the women’s march where she uttered the words “Blow up the White House” when discussing the newly installed President of the United States?…we expect the material girl will be receiving a visit from some big guys in a black SUV for her indiscretion?…she deserves it for allowing herself to blurt out such an idiotic statement?…she along with fellow entertainer Ashley Judd reinforced the belief that singers and actors do not have sufficient self control to be taken seriously?…we expect Ms. Judd will hear the BOOOOO BIRDS of Rupp Arena someday for her profanity laced rant?
IS IT TRUE on the bright side of the women’s march, a reported 3-4 Million American women peacefully exerted their right to free speech and assembly?…we should all be proud of the women who assembled to make their hopes and demands for the future known?…with very few exceptions the women’s march was a model for future protests?…we thank and congratulate all who participated?
IS IT TRUE medical marijuana is beginning to attract some support in the State of Indiana from some unexpected places?…even local Republican Senator Jim Tomes is seeing the light when it comes to marijuana extracts for use with some diseases?..this is an encouraging situation for patients who can benefit from the effects of the plant?…the biggest problem drugs in Indiana have long been legal ones like Oxycodone and other painkillers that have a distribution system that starts with a prescription and ends at a pharmacy?…the recent crackdown on these legal drugs has driven addicts to the streets where they have rediscovered heroin?…marijuana is now legalized at the state level for roughly half of all Americans?…in those places it doesn’t seem to be transforming nice places into drug dens?…the reality is quite to the contrary as taxes have increased and the populations are growing?
FOOTNOTE: Todays “Readers Poll” question is: Â Do you feel that the Zoning Appeals Board should approve another bar in the entertainment district on West Franklin street?

ACLU Takes Legal Action Against The Trump Administration
ACLU Takes First Legal Action Against The Trump Administration.
Why? Donald J. Trump is poised to become the 45th President of the United States without fully answering questions about his looming conflicts of interest. His ethical and financial conflicts threaten to undermine the public’s confidence in fair government – and even our national security.
The ACLU is demanding access to key documents concerning Trump’s conflicts of interest. The public has a right to know – and we need your help to make sure we get the full story.
On behalf of the American public, the ACLU filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the Office of Government Ethics and three other government offices. FOIA is a crucial tool for ordinary Americans to provide checks and balances on elected officials – this won’t be our last one.
Don’t forget: the American president is accountable to us – and it’s our job to hold him accountable. Obtaining information on Trump’s actual or potential conflicts of interest is critical for a functioning democracy – and insisting on this kind of oversight is how we keep presidential power in check.
This demand is just a first step to keep President Trump’s administration transparent and accountable. Let’s make it clear that we need answers now.
Add your name and insist on the public’s right to see these documents.
Thanks for doing your civic duty,
Anthony for the ACLU Action team

EVANSVILLE HYDROFEST TO ROAR ON THE RIVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND
A new event will be staged on the Ohio Riverfront in Downtown Evansville, Indiana USA over the Labor Day weekend in 2017. Evansville HydroFestTM will host the American Power Boat Association’s North American Championships for 14 classes of Inboard Boats during the 3-day event, Friday September 1st, Saturday September 2nd, and Sunday September 3rd, 2017.
All 14 classes of eligible APBA boats use inboard powerplants, as opposed to outboard motors, in a variety of hull designs, including flat bottom, V bottom, and hydroplanes. The classes are grouped by hull type, length, weight, and size and type of engine. Each class is distinguished by letters, such as Y, NMH, and GP.
As of this date, a total of 33 teams have committed to compete in Evansville in 3 classes, including 1 Litre Y Hydroplanes, National Modified Hydroplanes NMH, and Grand Prix Hydroplanes GP. More classes are expected to compete.
The GP’s are the loudest, fastest, and largest of the APBA Inboard Classes, using 468 cubic inch supercharged/fuel injected V8 engines running on methanol and producing upwards of 1500 horsepower. The current world straightaway record was set in Fall 2016 by GP15, driven by Jerry Hopp at 170.620 mph.
The Grand Prix’s are organized and presented by Grand Prix Worldwide (GPW), a group of teams primarily from America’s west coast. The Executive Director is Mr. Sam Cole, a longtime organizer of hydroplane racing.
Evansville HydroFest is presented by Evansville Events, Inc., a 501c3 non- profit entity of the Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau. Mr. Bob Warren is the Executive Director. Serving on the Executive Organizing Committee are Mr. Vernon Stevens, President of Southern Business Machines and Mr. Randy Lientz, President of AXIOM. All members reside in Evansville.
Bob Warren emphasized: “We are presenting Evansville HydroFest because our residents and visitors have asked for a new form of boatracing on our beautiful Ohio River. They want more boats, closer competition, less downtime, cooler temperatures, and MORE ROAR! And we will deliver. We chose Labor Day weekend because high temperatures will be around 85 degrees. As for action, as soon as one race is completed, the next heat will begin.
Admission cost for Evansville HydroFest is $10 total for all 3 days. 12 and under are free. The wristbands will go on sale June 14th in a variety of Evansville and Tri-state locations, as well as online at www.evansvillehydrofest.com.
