Creating a ranking of any kind usually sparks passions and debates. For years, historians have debated on ranking the presidents. While many historians agree on a few of the usual suspects, many have disagreed on the order and who belongs at the top of this iconic lists. For some, their personal political leanings influence who makes the top of their list. At any rate, ranking the presidents are always interesting. Personally, every president leaves being 1 or 2 legacies whether they be good or bad. Some presidents have had the fortunes (or misfortunes) of events that occurred during their time in office while others cemented their legacies themselves.Without further ado, here is a list we feel are the top 10 best presidents. We based this on their lasting legacies, accomplishments, and popularity during their times in office. Call this ranking the presidents 2.0.
1. Abraham Lincoln-With the nation only being about 85 years old, his leadership saved the union from permanent separation. You can credit him for being the reason we are the United States from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. By pardoning the Confederacy, Lincoln was able to bring the country together like no one could imagine after a brutal civil war.
2. Theodore Roosevelt-You might be surprised to see him this high on the list; even before his second cousin (see #3). But during his time as president, Americans saw the building of the Panama Canal and breaking of the trusts. The reason why we have so many national parks and forests that still exists today is because of his efforts to preserve them.
3. Franklin Roosevelt-FDR came into office at the worse economic crisis in the countries history. Of course, I’m referring to The Great Depression. Out of this came FDR’s New Deal, which at the time helped people get jobs and it created the social security system we still have today. FDR showed great leadership during the second war as well. He will forever be the only president elected 4 times to the office.
4. George Washington-Being labeled “The Father Of Our Country” will get you some points. But during his time in office, he was more than a figurehead. Jay’s Treaty was a huge accomplishment as it kept the young nation out of war and resolved past issues between the United States and Britain. Washington also set the precedent of only serving two terms. A precedent that held for over 130 years.
5. Harry Truman-He dropped the bomb. But he did much more than that during his time in office. He also signed into law The Marshall Plan which greatly aided in rebuilding Europe after World War 2.
6. James Polk-Dark horse on the list. In his 1 terms as POTUS, Polk gained the Oregon territory by threatening to go to war with Britain. Britain didn’t want war, but a compromise was made so the U.S. present-day Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. He did go to war with Mexico in which the states of Texas, New Mexico, and California were gained as a result of that war.
7. Ronald Reagan-Call him the father of modern conservatism. During Reagan’s time, the country saw a period of prosperity. He will still be best know for ending the Cold War by bringing the Soviets to its knees and basically bankrupting them. He was so well-liked that he carried 49 states when he won re-election.
8. Woodrow Wilson-You don’t like paying income taxes? This is the guy to blame. No matter how unpopular, the income tax still exists. Wilson also had the idea of The League of Nations. While it never panned out, it would be considered a prelude to The United Nations. Wilson also showed leadership when the country was brought into World War 1.
9. Dwight Eisenhower-Sure glad we have the interstates. “Ike” was the one who brought this idea to America. Also, NASA was created under his administration. Both of these accomplishments remain in use today.
10. James Monroe-President during “The Era of Good Feeling.” Monroe is best known for having a doctrine named after him. The Monroe Doctrine basically told Europe there will be no more colonization in the Western Hemisphere. Florida was also acquired by the U.S under his administration. Monroe was so popular during his day he didn’t even have an opponent when he ran for a second term.
Trump Seeks Pause In Legal Fight With Revised Travel Ban

The Trump administration said in court documents on Thursday it wants a pause in the legal fight over its ban on travelers from seven predominantly Muslim nations, so it can issue a replacement ban as it strives to protect the nation from terrorism.
Details of the new proposal were not provided in the filing or at a wide-ranging news conference by President Donald Trump. But lawyers for the administration said in the filing that a ban that focuses solely on foreigners who have never entered the U.S. — instead of green card holders already in the U.S. or who have traveled abroad and want to return — would pose no legal difficulties.
“In so doing, the president will clear the way for immediately protecting the country rather than pursuing further, potentially time-consuming litigation,” the filing said.
Trump said at the news conference that a new order would come next week.
“I will not back down from defending our country. I got elected on defense of our country,” he said.
Legal experts said a new order focusing only on residents of the seven countries who had never entered the U.S. would still face legal hurdles over possible religious discrimination.
Jessica Levinson, a professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, believes Trump would eliminate some major problems with the new focus.
“But I think that it will definitely still end up in court,” she said.
Stephen Vladeck, who teaches at the University of Texas School of Law, said the states challenging the current ban — Washington and Minnesota — would likely change their lawsuit to focus on any revised order.
“It will surely be a mess — and perhaps a repeat of some of the chaos we saw the first weekend of the original order,” Vladeck wrote in an email.
The administration asked the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hold off on making any more decisions related to the lawsuit until the new order is issued, and then toss out last week’s decision by a three-judge 9th Circuit panel that kept the ban on hold.
The 9th Circuit said late Thursday it will hold off on deciding whether to have a larger panel of judges reconsider that ruling.
The appeals court had asked the Trump administration and Washington and Minnesota to file arguments on whether a larger panel should rehear the case.
Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson said the federal government was “conceding defeat” by saying it does not want a larger appellate panel to review last week’s ruling. The three judges who issued that decision rejected the Trump administration’s claim of presidential authority and questioned its motives in ordering the ban.
The administration attacked the decision in Thursday’s court filing, saying the panel wrongly suggested some foreigners may be entitled to constitutional protections. The filing also rejected the judges’ determination that courts could consider Trump’s statements about shutting down Muslim immigration.
The lawsuit says the ban unconstitutionally blocks entry to the U.S. on the basis of religion and harms residents, universities and sales tax revenue in the two states. Eighteen other states, including California and New York, have supported the challenge.
In his filing with the 9th Circuit Thursday, Washington state Solicitor General Noah Purcell said the ruling by the three-judge panel was consistent with previous U.S. Supreme Court decisions, so there was no basis for a review.
Purcell said Trump had campaigned on the promise to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. and one week into office issued the order that “radically changed immigration policy” and “unleashed chaos around the world.”
The three-judge panel said the states had raised “serious” allegations that the ban targets Muslims, and it rejected the federal government’s argument that courts do not have the authority to review the president’s immigration and national security decisions.
The three judges said the Trump administration presented no evidence that any foreigner from the seven countries — Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen — was responsible for a terrorist attack in the U.S.
In Thursday’s filing, the administration said the ban was intended to prevent potential attacks from “nationals of seven countries that were previously found to present uniquely high risks of terrorism.”
The ban does not discriminate on the basis of religion because it affects only a fraction of the world’s Muslim population and also applies to non-Muslims in those countries, the administration said.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Consumer Protection Division (CPD) of the Office of the Indiana Attorney General continues to receive complaints about phone calls from unknown numbers in which the caller asks, “Can you hear me?.†The calls come from scammers attempting to get the recipient to simply say “yes.†Since Feb. 6, the CPD has received 50 complaints about these phone calls. The scam is an effort to confirm working phone numbers answered by live persons. Numbers answered by humans are then targeted at later dates and added to lists of phone numbers resold to other scammers. In recent weeks, authorities have become concerned that scammers might use recorded “yes†answers fraudulently – claiming they are verifications or agreements that can be used as a premise for billing people for goods or services they did not actually order. Thus far, the CPD does not have any reports of persons being scammed out of money as a direct result of these calls. The scam has become so prevalent that the CPD twice this week received this identical “Can you hear me?†phone call. The CPD and Attorney General Curtis Hill are reminding all Hoosiers: If you don’t know the number, don’t answer the phone. However, in the event you answer a phone call from an unknown number and the caller asks, “Can you hear me?,†then simply hang up immediately. Additionally, consumers who receive these calls should report them to our office at 1-800-382-5516. Make a note of the number from which you were called and report it to our office. When we receive reports of scam phone calls, we add the reported numbers to a blacklist database. If you have fallen victim to this — or any other scam phone calls — and you feel your personal identity or sensitive information has been compromised, you can also fill out an Identity Theft Complaint Form. ROOKIES IN THE WHITE HOUSE

Major League Baseball has an annual training season in Florida.
Maybe President Trump should have gone somewhere outside of Washington to hold tryouts for a month to see who on his team was ready to play in the big leagues.
At least he should have picked some veteran coaches who know how the professional Washington game is played, are loyal to him and who know how to make the White House work smoothly.
All incoming presidents, even veteran politicians, have trouble with their White House advisers and underlings at first.
But as a political outsider and a disrupter, Trump is facing more trouble than most of his predecessors.
The Democrats, their hysterical pals in the media and the permanent Washington bureaucracy are doing their best to slow him up or bring him down. But so far Trump – the rookie manager in chief – has been his own worst enemy.
He assembled a White House team made up of third-round draft picks and minor leaguers and put them on the field before he knew whether they could hit a curve or field a hard grounder.
What we’re seeing in the White House – “Leakville,†as I refer to it now – is a bunch of rookies trying to run the most important government operation in the world.
It should never have gotten to this level of ineptitude, President Trump is responsible for it, and only he can fix it. A large part of his problem is that he doesn’t have a chief of staff in the White House — he has two of them, Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon.
Anyone who’s ever managed a Starbucks knows when two or more people are “in charge,†no one is really in charge.  And when two or three people are in charge, then no one is ultimately responsible for anything that happens and chaos and confusion run amok.  The bumbled and hasty rollout of the executive order temporarily banning immigrants from seven Muslim countries was a textbook example of what happens when no single person is in charge of the White House staff  The case of Michael Flynn, Trump’s starting
National Security Adviser, was another “rookie mistake†by a staffer that should never have happened.Flynn should have known better. He wasn’t called up from the Class D Leagues. He had 30 years of exemplary military experience and had worked in the Obama administration.
What was he thinking? What made him believe he had the right to lie to the vice president – if that’s what he really did?
Flynn’s been cut from the team and he’ll be a source of bad PR for Trump for months.
I’d hate to be Sean Spicer, who has to go in front of the Washington press corps and deal with the latest twists in the Flynn case or explain the White House’s bungle of the day.
President Trump is doing fine by holding all those meetings with business executives and foreign leaders and issuing executive orders.
It’s his rookie squad that’s holding him back. They seem more interested in serving their own interests, not his.
It’s now up to the president to find a way to plug up the leaks and put together a competent, loyal and trusted White House staff.
He has to work fast. The regular season is almost a month old and he still doesn’t have a coaching staff or a starting lineup.
And as Manager Trump has already found out the hard way, there are no exhibition games played in the White House.

Men’s Tennis wins 3rd Straight, Sweeps Quincy
The University of Southern Indiana men’s tennis team picked up its third consecutive victory Saturday afternoon when they defeated Quincy University 9-0 at Reservoir Park in Quincy, Illinois.
Freshman Denis Davydov (Chorvatsky Grob, Slovakia) grabbed another win at number one singles, winning 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore James Hardiman (Backwell Bristol, United Kingdom) picked up the win a number two singles, 6-1, 6-1.
The Screaming Eagles (4-3) had clean sweeps at number five and six singles by sophomore Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) and sophomore Andrew Dones (Georgetown, Indiana), respectively. Also notching wins for USI in singles were junior Samuel Kiladejo (London, England) at number three and senior Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) at number four.
In doubles, Hardiman and Davydov had little trouble in their match at number two, picking up the 8-1 win. The duo of Barris and Kiladejo battled at number one before taking an 8-5 victory. At number three, Dones and Karelin went back and forth, ultimately coming away with a 9-7 win.
USI will be on the road again next week, when they face Bluefield State College at 2 p.m. (CST) Thursday in Bluefield, West Virginia.
