Dr. Bucshon Participates in Legislative Hearing on Obamacare Repeal and Replace Bill

1

Starting now, Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. participates in a Congressional hearing on legislation introduced this week to repeal Obamacare and replace it with patient-centered reforms that drive down costs and expand access to care.

The American Health Care Act was introduced in the House of Representatives this week and will be debated today in hearings held by the Energy and Commerce Committee, which Dr. Bucshon is a member of, and the Ways and Means Committee.

“Obamacare is failing by just about every measure. Out-of-pocket costs are skyrocketing for families and choices are being limited as insurers continue to drop out.  If we don’t act now, the law will almost certainly collapse and leave patients across the country with nowhere to go. As a physician who spent my career caring for patients, I firmly believe that inaction would be irresponsible and immoral. So we’re on a rescue mission,” said Bucshon.

“This week, we introduced our legislation, the American Health Care Act, to deliver relief to millions of Americans struggling under the Obamacare disaster. Our legislation helps drive down costs, expand access to quality, affordable care, and upholds critical patient protections like coverage for preexisting conditions. It ensures that no one will have the rug pulled out from under them, but also doesn’t send the IRS after patients who make the choice to not buy insurance.

“Today’s hearing is a step forward in this open, transparent process to get a final bill to President Trump’s desk. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House, the Senate, and the Trump Administration to deliver on our promise to repeal and replace Obamacare.”

The hearing, which kicked off shortly after 10:30am ET, can be viewed live here:https://goo.gl/qOAvTv.

The full text of the bill can be accessed at www.readthebill.gop and a fact sheet can be accessed by clicking here.

Winter Rules Expire March 15; Vectren Customers Urged To Evaluate Billing And Payment Options

0

Evansville, Ind. – As the end of the winter heating season approaches, Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana (Vectren) wants to remind customers that the regulatory moratorium, which prevents energy companies from disconnecting customers who meet low-income guidelines and have received federal and state utility heating assistance, will expire on Wednesday, March 15.

Customers who have received a disconnect notice or need bill payment assistance are urged to contact Vectren online at Vectren.com using the Live Chat feature or call 1-800-227-1376 to make payment arrangements and avoid potential disconnection.

“The heating season thus far – November through February – has been more than 20% warmer than normal and has helped minimize spikes in energy bills this winter,” said Brad Ellsworth, president of Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana – South. “Regardless, we know some customers may still be experiencing financial hardship or have found themselves behind on bill payments, and we want to remind them of the programs, resources and payment options in place to help manage costs.”

Choose from the following free Vectren billing and payment options as well as energy efficiency programs:

Payment Arrangement: Customers who are having difficulty paying bills in full can request a payment arrangement to fulfill the obligation in smaller increments over a set period of time. Eligible customers can request a payment arrangement by calling 1-800-227-1376.

  • Energy Assistance Program (EAP):  State and federal utility assistance dollars are still available for income-eligible customers. Those that fall below 150 percent of federal poverty guidelines (about $36,450 for a family of four), should visit their local community action agency to sign up for EAP. Visit www.incap.org or call 1-800-382-9895 to locate the local community action agency.
  • Universal Service Program: Natural gas customers who qualify for EAP will be automatically enrolled in the Universal Service Program (USP). The USP provides a discount on natural gas bills of eligible low-income customers from December through May, although discounts are not applied retroactively.
  • Energy Efficiency Resources: Vectren has a wide offering of energy efficiency programs for customers, which can be found at www.vectren.com/saveenergy. Customers are also encouraged to apply for all residential (home ownership or rental) weatherization programs, including programs available through community action agencies.

Budget Bill customers are also reminded to review their bill statements for the actual balance.  Because the late summer and fall months of 2016 were warmer than normal, electric air conditioning was used more, and that placed some Budget Bill customers behind.  Vectren South Budget Bills are re-calculated in May 2017, and any outstanding balance will be included in the re-calculation.  Please contact Vectren if you have any concerns about your actual balance and how that may affect your Budget Bill re-calculation this spring.

Rucker To Retire From Supreme Court May 12

IL for www.theindianalawyer.com

Indiana Justice Robert Rucker used the occasion of an oral argument Thursday at his high school alma mater to announce he will retire from the Indiana Supreme Court on May 12, the court announced.

Rucker made the announcement after arguments at Theodore Roosevelt College and Career Academy, formerly known as Gary Roosevelt High School. The court traveled to Lake County to hear Danny Sims v. Andrew Pappas and Melissa Pappas, 45S03-1701-CT-26. The question for justices in that case is whether evidence of decades-old crimes can be considered in a civil negligence suit.

After Rucker announced he would retire sometime this spring, 21 people applied to succeed him. The Judicial Nominating Commission Wednesday announced the schedule to interview 20 eligible applicantslater this month.

Hoosiers Qualify Four Divers for NCAA Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University men’s and women’s diving teams had a great first day at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind.

In the men’s 1-meter, Michael Hixon was incredibly impressive, leading almost the entire way to earn his spot in the event at the NCAA Championships with a score of 831.80. Also earning a spot in the 1-meter dive at NCAA’s was James Connor, who placed fourth overall with a total of 797.10.

Cody Coldren placed 11th overall in the 1-meter final with a total score of 617.45. By finishing in the top-12, Coldren is eligible to dive in the event at the NCAA Championships if he finishes in the top-seven in either the 3-meter dive or platform dive.

Only the top-five finishers on Thursday earned an auto-bid to the event at NCAA Championships. Once a diver posts an auto-qualifying finish in an event, he or she only has to be among the top 12 to earn the NCAA Championships berth in the other events.

In the women’s 3-meter dive, both Jessica Parratto and Michal Bower earned places in the event at the NCAA Championships next week by finishing in the top-nine. Parratto took second place with a score of 713.05, while Bower finished third overall with a total of 649.80.

With both Parratto and Bower earning auto-qualifier spots in the 3-meter, each just needs to finish in the top-12 of the 1-meter and platform dives to earn a place in those events at the NCAA Championships.

The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships will continue on Friday with the women’s 1-meter and the men’s 3-meter dives. The action gets underway at 1:00 p.m. ET at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind.

Men’s 1-Meter Dive

  1. Michael Hixon – 831.80 (Auto-Qualifier to NCAA Championships)
  2. James Connor – 797.10 (Auto-Qualifier to NCAA Championships)
  3. Cody Coldren – 617.45

Women’s 3-Meter Dive

  1. Jessica Parratto – 713.05 (Auto-Qualifier to NCAA Championships)
  2. Michal Bower – 649.80 (Auto-Qualifier to NCAA Championships)

Aces to play in final weekend tournament

Just one more non-conference tournament is on the schedule for the University of Evansville softball team as they head to Lexington, Ky. this weekend for the John Cropp Classic.

Evansville, who starts the weekend with a record of 5-10, open up on Friday at 10 a.m. versus #19 Kentucky.  Later in the day, the Purple Aces face off against 8-7 Dayton at noon.  Saturday’s action begins with a matchup versus 17th-ranked Michigan at 10 a.m. before taking on Kent State at 2 p.m.  The Golden Flashes are 7-7.  The event wraps up on Sunday against Drexel, who is 2-0 coming into the tournament.

Last week, the Aces played at the Courtyard Marriott Classic in Norman, Okla. before facing Oklahoma State in a single game on Tuesday.  UE went 1-5 on the trip, earning an 8-7 win on Sunday against Northwestern State.  The tenacious UE squad played well, especially against #9 Oklahoma as they scored 7 of the 8 runs allowed by the Sooners over the weekend.

Hayli Scott batted .625 with 5 hits in 8 trips to the plate at the weekend tournament in Oklahoma and finished the week at .600. She had a home run and 5 RBI on the weekend and got it started with a pinch hit RBI on Friday versus WKU. Saturday against Northwestern State, she had another big pinch hit, knocking in 2 runs. The Saturday finale saw her come through late with another pinch hit – a 2-run homer as UE rallied against Oklahoma. Scott went 2-3 on Sunday versus NSU.  For the season, Scott leads the squad with a .375 average.

Chandra Parr batted .250 in six games last week, but added two home runs to her tally as she stands at 28 in her career.  The 2-time All-MVC First Team player is just two away from tying the program mark of 30, which was set by Krista Price.  Price played for the Purple Aces from 2007 through 2010.

Sophomore Morgan Florey has thrown a team-high 42.0 innings this season and leads the squad with a 2.83 ERA.  She has struck out 45 batters while earning three wins on the season.  At the plate, she continues to be a force, checking in with a .325 average as she leads the team with 10 RBIs.  Florey hit a pair of home runs last weekend, both coming against the host Sooners.

Junior Brittany Hay batted .364 with two home runs at the Courtyard Marriott Tournament.  Hay had 4 hits in 11 at-bats.  She recorded a hit on Friday against the #9 Sooners before hitting a pinch hit homer on Saturday versus Northwestern State.  She finished off the weekend in style against NSU going 2-3 with a walk-off solo home run to lead the inning off and clinch the win.
