Newburgh, Indiana – Warrick Humane Society is inviting the community to participate in a special Foster-to-Adopt Event from Thursday, July 10 through Tuesday, July 15, giving families the opportunity to find their new best friend while giving dogs a much-needed break from the shelter.
During this event, any dog or puppy over 4 months old (who is up to date on veterinary care) is eligible for a foster-to-adopt trial. This short-term foster allows potential adopters to bring a dog home for a few days to see if they’re a good fit before committing to adoption. If they choose to adopt by July 15, they’ll receive 50% off the adoption fee.
How It Works:
• Fill out an adoption application in person or online at warrickhumanesociety.org/adoption
• Bring home a foster dog starting July 10
• WHS can help provide any necessary care items
• Decide by July 15 whether to adopt or return
• Adopt and receive 50% off the adoption fee
Shelter Hours:
• Wednesday–Thursday: 12 PM – 7 PM
• Friday–Sunday: 12 PM – 4 PM
This event gives dogs a chance to rest, recharge, and show their personalities outside the shelter setting—and
Washington quickly got the scoring going in the first with a three-run home run. Braden Scott, the starter for the night, worked around it and ended the inning strong with a strikeout.
With the score at 3-0 in the top of the second, the Otters responded. Logan Brown put down a perfect bunt up the right side of the infield to score a run and reach for an RBI single.
Scott worked great on the other end of the ball as well. He pitched a scoreless second and third and got up to three strikeouts on the day.
In the home half of the fourth, Washington scored twice thanks to a solo home run and an error to extend their lead 5-1. Scott shook off that inning and worked through the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, Evansville would score for the second time. Again, it was L. Brown with a single, this time up the middle to collect his second RBI of the night, making the score 5-2.
Scott’s night on the mound concluded after seven innings, picking up eight strikeouts and four earned runs allowed.
The Wild Things were able to close it out and finish the game by a score of 5-2.
L. Brown finished 2-for-4 with two RBI singles.
The Otters are back home tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m CT against the long-time rival Gateway Grizzlies for Pirate Night, sponsored by Ascension and CAPE.
Fraudsters impersonating local police are calling would-be victims to demand payment of supposed “fines,” according to Attorney General Todd Rokita, and they are threatening arrest if the supposed fines are not paid immediately. Further, these perpetrators are tricking caller ID into displaying phone numbers actually associated with local law enforcement.
“Scammers are always getting increasingly more sophisticated in their techniques,” Attorney General Rokita said. “They might use the names of actual officers or police departments in their attempts to make you think they’re in law enforcement, but it’s all a ruse. Just remember that real officers wouldn’t call you on the phone and threaten to arrest you if you hang up without paying.”
This scam is occurring not just in Indiana but nationwide. Advancements in technology allow scammers inside and outside of the country to target essentially anyone. That is why staying vigilant is so important.
As the Federal Trade Commission recently noted, some of these scam callers say they’ve confiscated a package with your name on it. They might say it’s filled with money, illegal drugs or weapons. To avoid being arrested, they might say, you must send cash, deposit money at a Bitcoin ATM, buy gift cards and give them the numbers, or send money over a payment app like Zelle, Cash App, or Venmo.
When would-be victims pause long enough to think about the oddity of such demands, they realize that real law enforcement officers would not operate in this manner. Sometimes, though, panic and manufactured pressure overrides rational thought.
Anyone receiving these kinds of calls should simply hang up.
If you can’t help wondering whether the call is legitimate, then contact the local police agency using a website or phone number you know belongs to them.

INDIANAPOLIS – Governor Mike Braun today released a report on his administration’s progress to replace the divisive DEI political ideology with the level playing field of MEI — Merit, Excellence, and Innovation. This report is the fulfillment of the Governor’s directive in his January 14, 2025, executive order.
DEI mandates are divisive and often lead to inefficiency by focusing decisions on a political goal rather than on the goal of achieving the best outcomes for Hoosier taxpayers.
“Indiana has replaced the divisive, politically-charged DEI ideology with Merit, Excellence, and Innovation: a level playing field where every single Hoosier has the chance to get ahead with hard work.” – Governor Mike Braun
The executive order directed executive state agencies to review their DEI positions, departments, activities, procedures, and programs for compliance with the decision in Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. President and Fellows of Harvard College, a landmark Supreme Court case regarding race-based admissions and an update on how those programs have been revised or eliminated to comply with the executive order.
Governor Braun is releasing that report today, which outlines:

INDIANAPOLIS (July 9, 2025) – The Office of Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs today announced 142 addresses across 27 counties will gain access to high-speed broadband as a result of $628,906 awarded in the 14th round of the Indiana Connectivity Program.
The Indiana Connectivity Program helps Hoosier residents and business owners, often in rural areas, obtain access to reliable broadband by assisting internet providers with the expense of extending its services to unserved and underserved locations of Indiana. “Reliable high-speed internet helps our kids do homework, allows families see their doctors online, and gives small businesses the boost they need,” Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith said. “These state grants and matching funds from our providers allow us to give additional access to homes and businesses across 27 counties. This brings opportunity and growth right to every Hoosier’s doorstep.” Of the 142 addresses funded in the Indiana Connectivity Program’s 14th round, 136 are households and six are businesses. Internet providers carrying out the projects are matching $1,424,490 for a total investment of $2,053,369. To find a list of providers granted funding, visit in.gov/ocra/broadband/icp. “The Indiana Connectivity Program continues to pave the way for underserved homes to gain access to reliable broadband,” OCRA Executive Director Fred Glynn said. “Where some families and business-owners are forced to consider relocating to a better served area, these Hoosiers will have the ability to stay in their homes or businesses thanks to this program.” The program accepts addresses on a rolling basis. Hoosiers and business owners lacking internet connectivity can communicate their interest by entering their address and information into the Next Level Connections portal at in.gov/ocra/broadband. Submitting location information into the portal does not guarantee extension of service. |
CenterPoint recognizes the vital role that electric utility workers play in delivering safe, reliable and resilient energy for customers and communities year-round
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — July 10, 2025 — Every year, the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and utilities across the country join together to observe National Lineworker Appreciation Day on July 10. This annual observance honors the life and work of Henry Miller, the first IBEW president, and our nation’s frontline electric workers. These dedicated workers serve their communities year-round during the hottest summers and coldest winters by helping deliver safe and reliable electric service to customers every day. These same lineworkers also answer the call for mutual assistance from neighboring utilities in other states by responding to wildfires, tornadoes, winter storms and other extreme weather events and natural disasters.
“We celebrate this day annually to recognize our highly skilled and highly trained workforce. Whether answering calls to install new service or restoring electric service following an extreme weather event, lineworkers serve as the first responders of our industry,” said Darin Carroll, CenterPoint’s Senior Vice President, Electric Business. “I want to thank our local Indiana CenterPoint linemen for the commitment and sacrifices made by both them and their families every day. A lineworker’s job is not an easy one, but on both blue-sky days and after major weather events, our team shows up, works hard, and delivers this critical service to our customers.”
CenterPoint’s Indiana electric lineworkers serve more than 150,000 metered customers in southwestern Indiana, maintaining approximately 1,000 circuit miles of transmission lines and approximately 7,300 miles of distribution lines. In addition to installing, maintaining and repairing electric infrastructure such as transmission towers, distribution poles, substations, transformers and wires, these lineworkers also educate the public on electric wire safety and adhere to rigorous safety standards to protect themselves and the communities CenterPoint serves.
Advancing workforce development to meet evolving regional needs
As part of the company’s commitment to hardening and strengthening the grid in southwestern Indiana, CenterPoint Energy is advancing workforce development through community relations programs and STEM-based educational opportunities. These efforts help cultivate the next generation of skilled electric lineworkers to support the evolving needs of customers and communities in southwestern Indiana.
