Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry is inviting the community to join in celebrating the City of Evansville on 812 Day next week!
The City of Evansville, alongside the Evansville Flag Group and numerous local businesses, will celebrate 812 Day on Monday, August 12 (8/12) with a series of events focused on community pride. Festivities will begin at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Civic Center (1 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.), where Mayor Terry will join the Evansville Flag Group in raising the new City of Evansville flag for the first time.
The flag was adopted by City Council earlier this year, after holding a contest to design a new city flag.
After the flag raising, Mayor Terry and officials and employees from across numerous city departments will move to Jacobsville to launch a new Block-by-Block initiative, which will include elements of social service, code enforcement, and community policing. Beginning at 10:00, city officials – along with any community volunteers who wish to join – will meet at Hope City Church, then will walk several blocks of Jacobsville. They will go door-to-door, offering information on government services and how to access them; community police officers with the Evansville Police Department will connect with residents, helping establish and build relationships. And all present will clean trash, cut grass, conduct minor tree trimming, and otherwise clean up the neighborhood.
“Neighborhoods are the heart of our community, and we know that, over the years, some of them have fallen behind,” Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry said. “So we thought it was appropriate that we launch this Block-by-Block cleanup effort on 812 Day – a day when we celebrate community pride and build up our city, but also reach out to people in these neighborhoods to ensure that they are aware of and can access community resources; that they know their community police officers; and that they see that we are here to help.
“We’ve spent the past couple of weeks knocking on doors in the neighborhood, talking to people about how we can help, and I’m excited to get out there next week and get to work.”
The goal is to make this the first in a series of Block-by-Block cleanups in Evansville. Future events will be announced later this month.
In addition to these events, Mayor Terry is encouraging residents to celebrate 812 Day by shopping in local businesses, visiting (and/or donating to) our city parks, eating in local restaurants, or simply performing acts of kindness for others.
“812 Day is an opportunity to celebrate our community in any way you can think of,” Mayor Terry said. “That might mean joining us in the Block-by-Block cleanup; it might supporting local shops and restaurants, or offering a donation to ensure that our city is able to provide safe, beautiful parks for all of its residents.
“We just ask that everyone take a moment on Monday to celebrate the community we all share, and be part of helping us move it forward together.”
Participants also are encouraged to post photos of their 812 Day celebrations with the hashtag #812DayEVV.
13 USI Softball student-athletes recognized with NFCA scholar-athlete honors
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Softball had 13 student-athletes recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) for their academic success in 2023-24.
The Easton/NFCA Academic All-America Scholar-Athletes from Southern Indiana included outfielder Mackenzie Bedrick (Brownsburg, Indiana), infielder Caitlyn Boteler (Bloomington, Indiana), first baseman Lexi Fair (Greenwood, Indiana), pitcher Raegan Gibson (Louisville, Indiana), infielder Hailey Gotshall (Lucerne, Indiana), outfielder Olivia Howard (Fishers, Indiana), pitcher Whitley Hunter (Nashville, Illinois), infielder Hannah Long (Haubstadt, Indiana), infielder Sydney Long (Haubstadt, Indiana), outfielder Kennedy Nalley (Huntingburg, Indiana), pitcher Josie Newman (Indianapolis, Indiana), outfielder Caroline Stapleton (Shirley, Indiana), and infielder Shelby Stivers (Louisville, Kentucky).
The student-athletes were among the 8,054 collegiate student-athletes honored in all divisions. Member head coaches submit team GPAs and scholar-athletes. The award goes to those who earned at least a 3.5 grade point average.
USI Softball recorded a 3.57 GPA collectively as a team during the 2023-24 academic year.
USI was 25-22 overall and 16-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference regular season. Both win totals surpassed USI’s marks in 2023. The Screaming Eagles captured their second consecutive OVC Tournament berth and came within a game of making an appearance in the championship round.
Warrant for Former Firefighter After Lengthy Investigatio
In April the Evansville Fire Department administration contacted the Evansville Police Department in response to discrepancies found during internal equipment and financial audits. EFD administration found records of equipment that was unaccounted for and questionable transactions that had been made with the EFD and the Evansville Fire Department Foundation financial accounts. The purchases and transactions were made by (now retired) Paul H. Anslinger while he was employed by the Evansville Fire Department.
This afternoon, August 6th, an arrest warrant for Anslinger was obtained by the Evansville Police Department Financial Crimes Unit.
As a result of this lengthy investigation Anslinger has been charged with three counts of theft and one count of official misconduct.
Otters, Crushers series opener postponed
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Due to inclement weather and high winds in Avon Tuesday, the Evansville Otters’ series opener at Lake Erie has been postponed.
The two sides will now play a pair of seven-inning games in a doubleheader on Wednesday, August 7th. Game one will begin at 4:05pm CT. Game two will begin shortly following the conclusion of game one.

Keymontai K. Madison was arrested this evening for his active warrant for murder.
Madison turned himself in to the Evansville Police Department. Madison has been booked into
the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center.
Previous Update
The victim has been identified by the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s office as 23-year-
old Kevion K. Mann. An autopsy was conducted on today’s date and concluded that Mann died
from a gunshot wound to the head.
25-year-old Mark A. Dow III was arrested this afternoon and was charged with assisting
a criminal. Dow has been booked into the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center.
A warrant for murder has been obtained for 22-year-old Keymontai K. Madison. Madison
is approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.
Anyone who has information on the possible location of Keymontai Madison is asked to
please call 911 or the EPD Tip Line at (812) 435-6194.
Original Summary
On August 4th at 3:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Southeast Martin
Luther King Boulevard in reference to shots fired. On scene officers located an adult male
victim with what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a
local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name and cause of
death.
At this time, no arrests have been made and this is an active investigation. Anyone who

Terry Collins set to begin final week of legendary UE career
Collins has been the Athletic Trainer at UE since 1987
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Since 1987, Terry Collins has served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the University of Evansville Athletics. He recently announced his retirement and his final day with the Purple Aces is set for August 12.
The University of Evansville will hold a reception honoring Collins on Wednesday, August 7 from 4-6 p.m. Accelerated Growth Capital, located at 508 Main Street, Suite A in Evansville will host the event.
“Terry’s leadership has led to Sports Medicine at UE being one of our greatest strengths. Terry has made a difference in the lives of so many. This includes thousands of student-athletes. He has impacted so many aspiring Certified Athletic Trainers who have gone on to have impactful careers,” UE Director of Athletics Dr. Ziggy Siegfried exclaimed. “On behalf of all Purple Aces, I want to thank Terry for his servant leadership and dedication for 37+ years.”
In culmination with the retirement celebration, UE has announced the creation of the Terry Collins Sports Medicine Excellence Fund. The fund will be a permanent way to honor Collins for his service to the university and will assist the Athletic Training staff in multiple ways including:
- Ongoing completion of CEUs for certified athletic trainers assigned to the Purple Aces 17 intercollegiate sports
- Commitment to engaging in new methods for injury prevention and rehabilitation from injury
- Assurance of the quality of care provided to UE’s 250+ student-athletes for all aspects of sports medicine
Collins graduated from UE in 1982 where he was a pitcher for the Aces baseball team. After receiving his master’s degree from Indiana State University, Collins spent three seasons as the head trainer at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.
He returned to his alma mater in 1987 and has been the head athletic trainer since that time. Collins directs the Athletic Training Staff in injury prevention, care of injuries and rehabilitation. Aside from that, he has worked as a Clinical Preceptor and instructor in the Athletic Training Education Program in UE’s Department of Exercise Science.
Close to 200 former athletic training students at UE have become Certified Athletic Trainers after working and studying with Collins and his staff. Collins was the recipient of the Jim Byers Award at the 2024 ACESPYs. The award is presented annually to the staff member who exemplifies the characteristics of former UE Athletics Director Jim Byers.

The Evansville Regional Economic Partnership (E-REP) is passionate about building a stronger Evansville Region. The River Vision Advancement Director is a key member of the economic development team and will be a central part of positioning the Ohio River Vision and Strategic Plan and regional riverfront development to be an impactful enabler of population growth and talent attraction. An activated Ohio Riverfront has been called for in public input for almost a century in the Evansville Region, and this person will be the key to seeing it to fruition. The position will exert material authority over the development of strategies, funding, and outcomes for the comprehensive riverfront strategy, a critical component of E-REP’s ongoing strategy.
A successful River Vision Advancement Director will have strong personal accountability for results, strong commitment to teamwork in support of E-REP’s mission, adherence to ethical best practices, and comfort operating in a fast-paced environment with an ability to prioritize and drive actions towards positive community impact. This position is responsible for driving regional riverfront planning and real estate projects and will keep the vision of building a thriving and active riverfront at the forefront of what they do, anticipating the opportunities and steps needed to get there.
The River Vision Advancement Director’s every day actions will exemplify the guiding principles of E-REP. The position operates regionally, commits to equitable prosperity, keeps small business front and center, leverages the unique value of both the public and private sectors in delivering success, and advances regional prosperity and global relevance.
Scope of Work
The role and responsibilities of the position will include but not be limited to the following:
- Serve as the community champion for regional riverfront development, utilizing all appropriate opportunities to galvanize stakeholders towards the ultimate vision for a transformational riverfront destination.
- Create multi-faceted, multi-phase strategy to drive development outcomes at the Ohio Riverfront in coordination with the Ohio River Vision and Strategic Plan.
- Provide project management direction and oversight to Sasaki and external team of consultants on riverfront work and serve as main point of contact for E-REP staff on riverfront projects including overall supervision, budget monitoring, goal setting, strategy development, and outcomes.
- Lead development efforts along the riverfront, serving as the key link between consultants, elected officials, anchor institutions, government employees, philanthropists, developers, contractors, and the business community.
- Be an expert relationship builder, with the ability to understand how the internal structures of businesses, funders, government entities, and external stakeholders operate to effectively navigate organizational processes, obstacles, and systems.
- Communicate, interact, and develop beneficial relationships with business leaders, potential/secured investors, contractors, architects, funders, financial institutions, and other project anchor organizations along the riverfront to ensure open lines of communication and strategic alignment with riverfront goals. Exhibit the ability to present complex topics and projects into clear, concise, easily understandable communication with clear calls to action.
- Assist with negotiation and the management of professional service contracts, land acquisition and development, and regional riverfront development-oriented negotiations, as applicable.
- Serve as a liaison with various local, state, and federal agencies, coordinating projects with agencies as necessary and appropriate.
- Develop and maintain project tracking and management systems to keep assigned projects on schedule, ensure compliance with any applicable regulations and support successful outcomes.
- Have a working knowledge of real estate development process and available financial incentives.
- Display excellent written and oral communication skills; present the vision for the riverfront often to Board of Directors, government entities, funders, broader community, and other external stakeholders.
- Develop requests for proposals (RFPs) and recruit developers to respond to RFPs for future real estate development along the riverfront.
- Analyze project schedules to ensure progress is being made to meet critical paths identified.
- Assist in developing materials for project communication, presentations, and updates for the public.
- Manage & organize multiple iterations of electronic project files.
- Assume full responsibility for specialty projects.
- Engage in public policy efforts along other E-REP leaders, advocating for the importance of continued quality of place incentives.
- Maintain and reconcile project budget(s) against actual expenses and costs incurred. Coordinate directly with Accounting/Finance. Keep impeccable records.
- Collaborate with Program Manager on READI and/or CDC-related riverfront tasks or projects, and with the Grants Administrator on appropriate grant opportunities for the riverfront to advance investment opportunities.
- Collaborate with E-REP management, clearly communicating when their resources or influence are needed to advance the riverfront development vision.
- Support E-REP’s strategic goals to meet objectives and increase economic development opportunities.
- Attend evening meetings and weekend events as required.
- This position performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of E-REP and the execution of regional riverfront development.
