| The American Association of Police Polygraphist recently held their annual conference in Houston, Texas. A highlight of the conference was the awards ceremony. Five year AAPP member, Indiana State Police First Sergeant Paul Hansard, was presented the Region II Richard O. Arthur Directors Award for his significant contribution in a 2016 Spencer, IN murder case.
In March, 2016 Indiana State Police polygraph examiner, F/Sgt. Paul Hansard was contacted to conduct a specific issue polygraph examination on a suspect to determine his truthfulness as to whether or not the suspect caused a female to go missing. During the course of the investigation F/Sgt. Hansard determined the suspect was deceptive to the main issue. A second polygraph examination was utilized to determine the female’s location. The suspect displayed strong reactions to one particular area and during the interview concerning these deceptive results the suspect told F/Sgt. where the female’s body was located. The information gained from the polygraph examination and post-test interview led investigators to the female’s body. “The information gleaned from the suspect in our case by First Sergeant Hansard proved to be instrumental in securing a conviction,†stated Owen County Prosecutor Donald R. Evansville Rescue Mission To Hold 14th Annual Golf Scramble Today (5/8) To Benefit ERM’s Free Summer Camp Program at Camp Reveal
Here are some important details for twelfth annual Evansville Rescue Mission Golf Scramble:Â

- Start Time: Noon with complimentary lunch taking place between 10:30 and 11:45 p.m.Â
Hundreds of Tri-State children will be given the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and participate in a variety of fun, unique activities by attending the ERM’s Summer Camp program this June and July. This is possible through the Tri-State’s support of the Evansville Rescue Mission’s annual golf scramble where $30,000 is projected to be raised through monetary support and in-kind donations.

Biology Students Provide Benches to United Caring Shelters

United Caring Shelters, 324 NW 6th St., Evansville
Biology students from Ivy Tech Community College have worked for several years to collect enough bottle caps to make benches for a variety of places, but especially for the United Caring Shelters, who had expressed a need, through Ivy Tech alumna Phyllis Ogburn. Today two benches will be delivered. Each bench takes 40,000 caps, and weighs about 400 pounds each. The benches are the culmination of work of about 75 students.

Aces set for MVC Championship
WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State scored five runs in the first inning and held on from that point to take a 5-0 win over the University of Evansville softball team on Sunday afternoon.
The Purple Aces (20-32, 11-15 MVC) will be the #5 seed for this week’s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in Normal, Ill. Wichita State finishes the season at 31-19 and 16-9 in the league.
Danielle Cassidy made the start for UE, giving up the five runs over two innings of work. Emily Lockhart had another nice outing in relief, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing three hits.
Brittany Hay, Chandra Parr and Susan Norris picked up the Aces’ three hits on the day.
Wichita did all of its scoring in the first as Madison Perrigan started it off with an RBI double. Another big hit came off of McKenzie Adams’ bat as she plated two runs with a double as the Shockers took a 5-0 advantage.
That would be the scoring for the day as WSU took the 5-0 win. They recorded eight hits on the day while UE finished with three.
In a nice gesture prior to the contest, the Shockers honored UE’s nine seniors and presented each with a rose as they took the field for their final regular-season contest.

Kayakers Rescued at Patoka River (Dubois County)
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating three men who were stranded while kayaking in the Patoka River. (Dubois County)
On Sunday, May 7, at approximately 5:20 pmÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ, Brandon M. Jochim, 18, of Jasper, Nicholas C. Day, 18, of Jasper, and Seth L. Hill, 18, of Jasper, were kayaking in the Patoka River downstream of County Road 300 North in Dubois County. Â One of the kayaks overturned upon hitting a low lying limb at water level.
The individual who overturned his kayak advised it was his first time kayaking. The area of the Patoka River that the men were in was flooded with a strong current. All three individuals became stranded in the water with only two kayaks left for them to hold on to. The third kayak drifted downstream in the current. The boys were stranded in the water for approximately 1.5 hours, and were not wearing life jackets.  Conservation Officers Kyle Hembree, Jonathan Watkins, Logan Hodges, and Tony Mann were able to rescue the boys from the water by jon boat. They were met with an ambulance and transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital.  There were no major injuries sustained from the incident.
Responding agencies included Indiana Conservation Officers, Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, Jasper Police Department, Jasper Fire Department, and Life Flight of Evansville.
Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage the use of life jackets while enjoying any activity out on the water.

IS IT TRUE that the question about just what does it take for a hockey team to make money at the Ford Center while paying enough rent for the Ford Center to pay its bills?…the City County Observer has attempted to show how the Evansville Thunderbolts have lost on and off the ice while seemly bleeding the Ford Center dry with subsidies?…it is common knowledge that the Evansville Icemen lost on the order of $600,000 per year paying market rate rent ($10,000 for each home game) and drawing much larger crowds than the Evansville Thunderdolts?…it’s obvious that even with the Evansville Iceman paying market rent did not make the Ford Center break even?…it seems as though there is not much of a chance for success and ice hockey to coexist in Evansville?…we want to forewarn our readers that an editorial on what it will take to make hockey work is in the works?…someday this week this work will be published?
IS IT TRUE that the City is paying for half of the utilities costs at the FORD CENTER and VenueWork is paying the other half? Â …one entity is paying for electric and the other is paying for gas? Â …we have no idea who is paying for water? Â …we are told that we will be shocked when we find out what the annual costs for utilities for FORD CENTER are?
IS IT TRUE that another retail chain is closing all of their stores?…this time it is long time sports retailer Gander Mountain that has elected to close all 150+ of its stores nationwide?…Gander Mountain joins Sports Authority in getting out of the brick and mortar retail distribution business?…Dicks has been struggling for a couple of years as well?…the only big box sports retailer that is not admitting to any problems is the Bass Pro Shops which cater to a demographic that is less prone to online purchasing?…two things that are wallowing in denial these days are mall owners and cities that depend on sales tax revenue for existence? IS IT TRUE that Evansville has showed up on some national weather maps this week among the parts of the country that have gotten over ten inches of rain in a week?…we all know what that means for the south side of Evansville in terms of raw sewage making its way into the streets and being discharged directly into the Ohio River?…it was pathetic to start learning about the level of neglect that has lead to an EPA mandate to spend a billion dollars to correct for an antiquated combined sewer system?…at that time many felt sorry for  the administration that had to deal with this legacy of neglect and the scourge of disease?…now that it is clear that the powers that be are only concerned about downtown fun and games projects while dedicated to kicking the can of neglect down the road, it has become a joke and a badge of shame?…at some point this $#|+ has got to be fixed?

Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office welcomes 11 new confinement officers. The group had to complete a 40-hour course to earn the title. The jail officers course is mandatory for all new hires in their first year. Confinement officers learned a…
