AN EVENING WITH OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN LIVE IN CONCERT AT THE VICTORY THEATRE IN EVANSVILLE

Internationally recognized, four-time Grammy Award-winning singer, actress, and breast cancer “thriver” Olivia Newton-John to perform live in concert at the Victory Theatre, on Friday May 19, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

With a career spanning over five decades with more than 100 million albums sold, Olivia’s successes include four Grammys, numerous Country Music, American Music, Billboard and People’s Choice Awards, an Emmy Award, ten #1 hits and more than 15 top 10 singles. She recently scored another #1 hit, this time on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart with her daughter Chloe Lattanzi – becoming the first mother/daughter duo to top this chart. In 1978, her co-starring role with John Travolta in “Grease” catapulted Olivia into super- stardom and to date remains the most successful movie musical of all time.

Throughout her career, the much-loved star has held many humanitarian and environmental causes close to her heart. Olivia served as Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations Environment Programme, was the co- founder of Children’s Health Environmental Coalition (now Healthy Child, Healthy World) and, in 1992 she created National Tree Day in Australia, which is responsible for planting more than 10 million trees since its beginning. Most recently she co-founded One Tree Per Child, an international school initiative with the goal of having every child under the age of ten plant at least one tree.

Olivia also is a very proud co-owner of the award winning Gaia Retreat & Spa in the Hinterlands of New South Wales, Australia. Gaia recently celebrated its’10th anniversary and added 12 new international awards to their ever-growing list of accolades– including “Best Boutique Hotel” and the “World’s Best Day Spa” at the World Spa Awards (GaiaRetreat.com).

In 1992, Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her personal triumph against cancer led her to announce her partnership with Austin Health and the creation of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJCWRC) in her hometown of Melbourne, Australia. The ONJCWRC opened its doors in 2012 and provides a comprehensive range of services and facilities for cancer treatment, education, training and research as well as a dedicated wellness center (ONJCancerCentre.org).

Olivia’s appeal seems to be timeless. She recently finished her three-year Las Vegas residency “Summer Nights” at the Flamingo and was thrilled that a portion of every ticket sold to her concert benefited the Wellness Programs at the ONJCWRC.

Conexus Indiana Endorses UE’s Logistics and Supply Chain Management Program

The University of Evansville Schroeder School of Business’s new logistics and supply chain management program (LSCM) has been endorsed by Conexus Indiana Logistics Council. UE plans to launch the program in the fall of 2018.

Conexus Indiana is a forum of Indiana executives and thought leaders representing air, infrastructure, rail trucking, warehouse/distribution, waterborne, and advanced manufacturing and service firms. The Schroeder School is the first private AACSB business school in Indiana to receive its endorsement.

UE Schroeder Family School of Business Dean Greg Rawski said the endorsement “continues the forward momentum we’ve created which connects our students to top Indiana logistics executives. It creates exciting opportunities. There is a 6:1 demand-to-supply ratio for new college graduates in the supply chain field, and our LSCM program will prepare students with the knowledge and skills desired by those employers.”

In addition to rigorous study, students in the program will participate in high level experiential learning opportunities. The Schroeder School of Business will create the center for logistics and supply chain management which will house experiential student programs and connect LSCM students to corporations. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 12-to-1, students will benefit from close faculty mentorship. Students will also attend a speaker series where they can learn from individuals with logistics and supply chain management experience.

In 2016, a UE student team took third place among 17 Indiana colleges in the Conexus Logistics Case Competition. These colleges, some with established LSCM programs, vied to develop the best solution to a logistics-related issue.

Yolanda Obaze, UE assistant professor of supply chain management, noted that the team’s placement was impressive considering their limited exposure to the field of logistics and supply chain management. The achievement, she said, is a good indication of future successes when UE’s new LSCM program is implemented.

Kayla Katterhenry ties for second in Tennessee

Aces place fifth in tournament

 Senior Kayla Katterhenry finished just one shot off of the lead as the University of Evansville women’s golf team earned a 5th place finish at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club.

A 3-over 74 on Tuesday saw Katterhenry finish one stroke behind medalist Elizabeth England of Carson-Newman.  Katterhenry’s efforts in the tournament saw her post a 3-round tally of 220.

Giulia Mallmann was second for the Purple Aces.  She carded an 84 in the final round and completed the tournament with a 246 to finish in 28th.  One behind her was Maggie Camp.  The senior registered an 83 to total 247 strokes in the tournament, good for a 29th-place tie.

Madison Chaney and Lexie Sollman completed the top five.  Chaney had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, scoring an 81 to tie for 32nd with a 250.  Sollman posted an 85 on her way to a 257.  She placed 38th.

Lee University took the team championship by 11 strokes over Tennessee Tech.  Lee posted an 895 while TTU finished at 906.  Belmont took third with a 916 while Carson-Newman (932) and UE (961) rounded out the top five.

Gray and Pahud earn top ten finishes for Aces men

UE ties for third place

  A successful three rounds of play saw two University of Evansville men’s golfers earn top ten finishes while the Purple Aces earn a tie for third as a team at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate and Sevierville Golf Club.

Tyler Gray had another round under par on Tuesday, carding a 2-under 70 to finish the event with a 210.  The 70 comes on the heels of a 4-under 68 in Monday’s second round.

Wil Pahud also recorded a top ten as his final tally of 216 was good for a 9th place tie.  He posted an even 72 on Tuesday.  Third on the team was Jon Pick.  A solid round of 75 in the final tour of the course saw him finish the event with a score of 225 on his way to a tie for 24th place.

Zac Turi was the fourth member of the squad on the leaderboard.  Turi tied for 32nd as his Tuesday score of 76 gave him a 228.  Matthew Ladd tied for 40th place as he notched his best round of the event, a 74, finishing with a 230.  Noah Reese tied for 32nd as an individual, coming in with 228 strokes.

Carson-Newman extended its lead for the team win.  Their 3-round total of 847 was 25 ahead of runner-up Lincoln Memorial.  Evansville and Austin Peay tied for third with scores of 877.  Jake Headrick of Carson-Newman shot the low round of the tournament on Tuesday – a 6-under 66 – to edge teammate Tom Forester, 205-207.

On April 1, the Aces will be bacon on course at the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington.

 

Taylor earns a pair of All-America awards

University of Southern Indiana senior guard/forward Jeril Taylor (Louisville, Kentucky) was named All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and Basketball Times in releases today. The All-America awards are the first for Taylor, who becomes the 22nd Screaming Eagle in USI men’s basketball history to earn the honor.

Taylor, who also was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year and first-team All-GLVC this season, shined for the Eagles in 2016-17. He led the team for the second-straight season in scoring and rebounding, averaging 19.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest. The senior also set a USI single-game record for scoring with 50 points in the road win at Truman State University and became the 19thUSI player to reach 1,000 career points.

In addition to the post-season conference awards, Taylor was named All-Midwest Region by the NABC and the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association; the Division II Bulletin Player of the Month (January); the GLVC Player of the Week four times; and the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic Most Valuable Player.

USI finished the 2016-17 campaign with a 25-5 overall record and ranked 16th nationally after bowing out of the NCAA Division II Tournament in the Midwest Regional. The Eagles also finished second in the GLVC East Division with a 15-3 conference mark.

IS IT TRUE the latest Evansville bout with patronage human resources policies is drawing the ire of nearly everyone in town with enough sense to see what has been proposed by our Vanderburgh County Commissioners?…firing a capable and educated young professional who chose Evansville over other opportunities in other places spits in the face of growing the young and educated part of the local workforce?…it is entirely possible that some elected officials have been indoctrinated from birth in the culture of patronage that they don’t even know it is the path to permanent mediocrity?…this action will be memorialized on future Google searches as a reason for educated professionals to avoid Evansville like a cat avoids a bath?

IS IT TRUE we can’t wait to hear what the President of the Vanderburgh County Commission has to say about the firing of the current Director of Burdette Park without cause?

IS IT TRUE  the State Board of Accounts audited financial statement for the City of Evansville reveals some shocking information?  …that the Post Employment benefits healthcare plan funding status as of January 1, 2015,  was zero (0) percent funded. by the City of Evansville?  ….The actuarial accrued liability for retired city employees benefits was $281,495,540 and the actuarial value of assets for this fund was zero (0) funded, resulting in an unfunded actuarial accrued liability (UAAL) of $281,495,540.?

IS IT TRUE we have on good authority that today’s County Commissioners meeting should be extremely interesting?  …we been informed by Vanderburgh County Veterans Commander Mark Acker that members of the Vanderburgh County Commission are trying to force the Vanderburgh County Veterans Council to leave the Veterans Memorial Coliseum?  …Mr. Acker also alleges that he believes the Mayor would like to demolish the Veterans Memorial Coliseum because it stands in the way of his future downtown revitalization. plans?  ….Commander Acker also states  “that the Vets are fed up with the way members of County Commission have been mistreating them and have retained legal counsel to represent them ? …this a developing story?

IS IT TRUE that bad news struck the West Franklin Street entertainment district Sunday afternoon when a patron of the restaurant was told “there is no tea”?…the reason given for a tea shortage was that the Tin Man Restaurant will be shutting down and the only things available for sale are whatever is on the shelf in the back?…the last day of operation was communicated from a waiter to a customer as Sunday March, 19, 2017?… The future of the Tin Man Brewery is not known at this time?…the legacy of the Tin Man started about a decade ago when someone won enough lottery money to set themselves up for life and used part of it to start among other things a brewery and a restaurant in Evansville?…with the depth of the pockets backing the Tin Man it must have been facing some insurmountable financial issues for the white flag of surrender to have been hoisted?…this business failure will most certainly cause other aspiring entrepreneurs in the Evansville entertainment market to think twice and bankers to think five times before making loans against such assets?

IS IT TRUE there is about to be another startup business down at Marina Point which has seen its share of challenges to entrepreneurial success?…the list of failed entertainment venues is a long one and we hope that trend ends with the soon to be launched business?…the owner of this new business at Marina Point is the owner of K C TIMEOUT Bar located at the Washington Square Mall on Green River Road?  …we predict that KC Marine Point Bar will be a smashing success because the owner knows his stuff?

IS IT TRUE a 35 year old mother from Henderson is in trouble for supplying alcohol to her own teenager and at least one other teenager?…beer and other alcohol consumption has been an accepted tradition in the Tri-State for at least a century but that does not make it legal or right?…let this Henderson mom be an example to others of how not to raise children?…terrible parenting is likely to be one of the fundamental reasons that there are places like Iceland where people are 15 times less likely to commit murder than Evansvillians are?…multiply that by eleven for St. Louis?…America had better get its act together in the parenting department or we may well be headed to attaining third world status among nations?
