Air Quality Forecast

Air quality forecasts for Evansville and Vanderburgh County are provided as a public service.  They are best estimates of predicted pollution levels that can be used as a guide so people can modify their activities and reduce their exposure to air quality conditions that may affect their health.  The forecasts are routinely made available at least a day in advance, and are posted by 10:30 AM Evansville time on Monday (for Tuesday through Thursday) and Thursday (for Friday through Monday).  When atmospheric conditions are uncertain or favor pollution levels above the National Ambient Air Quality Standards, forecasts are made on a daily basis.

Ozone forecasts are available from mid-April through September 30th.  Fine particulate (PM2.5) forecasts are available year round.

Air Quality Action Days

Ozone Alerts are issued by the Evansville EPA when maximum ozone readings averaged over a period of eight hours are forecasted to reach 71 parts per billion (ppb), or unhealthy for sensitive groups on the USEPA Air Quality Index scale.

Particulate Alerts are issued by the Evansville EPA when PM2.5 readings averaged over the period of midnight to midnight are forecasted to reach 35 micrograms per meter cubed (µg/m3).

Current conditions of OZONE and FINE PARTICULATE MATTER are available in near real-time on the Indiana Department of Environment Management’s website.

National and regional maps of current conditions are available through USEPA AIRNow.

Women’s Tennis Earns Two Wins In Florida

Aces off to nice start on road trip

 ORLANDO, Fla. – A perfect opening day of action saw the University of Evansville women’s tennis team earn a pair of victories to open their trip to Orlando on Sunday.  The Purple Aces picked up a 7-0 win over Florida A&M before finishing up with another 7-0 shutout against Marian.

“Our focus was very good today. I was very pleased with the fact that we swept both teams in singles and doubles despite using some different line up combinations that we haven’t used much to this point,” Aces head coach Jayson Wiseman said.  “Chieko and Diana were dominant at the top of the lineup, Nicoli and Daria were both very efficient in the middle and Andrea, Andjela and Theda did a great job of dictating play at the bottom. This was definitely our most complete back-to-back performance of the season.”

Evansville did not suffer a loss in either match at double or singles while Chieko Yamada, Diana Tkachenko and Andjela Brguljan each earned a pair of 6-0 shutouts in singles action against Marian.

Full results from both matches are below.  The Aces continue play in Orlando with matches on Tuesday against Creighton and Norfolk State.  UE remains in the city on Thursday where they will take on South Dakota and Furman.

In September, came For the Good Times: A Tribute to Ray Price, an album of newly recorded interpretations of 12 Ray Price songs. Worth, TX department store. In April 2017, Nelson releases God’s Problem Child, his latest studio album with 13 new songs. These sweet girls are the unlikeliest friends! They are a bonded pair of females who MUST go home together. Bessie (the poodle) is 7 years old, and Tinkerbell (Dachshund) is 11. They lived with a cat in their previous home and did just fine. The adoption fee is $195 for both (a $25 discount for adopting two at the same time!) BREAKING NEWS: Eagles Receive At-Large Bid to NCAA II Regionals

The 12th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men’s basketball team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament and will play in the Midwest Regional, which is scheduled for March 11-14 in Louisville, Kentucky. The regional is being hosted by fourth-ranked and top-seeded Bellarmine University. Ticket prices and information will be released on Monday.

The Screaming Eagles (25-4) return to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time since 2014 and are making their 20th regional appearance in the last 25 seasons. USI, the 1995 NCAA II National Champion, has appeared in the NCAA II Tournament 25 times in the history of the program and has a record of 31-27 in tournament play.

The Eagles are the third seed in the regional and start national tournament action Saturday at 1:30 p.m. (CST) when they take on sixth-seeded University of Findlay (23-6). USI has played Findley in the NCAA II Midwest Regional twice in the history of the program, going 1-1 (win in 2003-04, 75-67; loss in 2008-09, 81-59). The Eagles are 2-1 all-time against Findlay.

In addition to the USI-Findlay match-up, the top half of the bracket features second-seeded Ferris State University (27-4) against seventh-seeded Truman State University (22-9) with an 11 a.m. (CST) tip off Saturday.

The bottom half of the regional bracket includes Bellarmine (28-3) hosting eighth-seeded University of Wisconsin-Parkside (22-7) at 5 p.m. (CST). The final first round game has with seventh-ranked and fourth-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan College (28-2) playing fifth-seeded Quincy University (24-6) at 7:30 p.m. (CST).

The semifinals will be played Sunday (March 12) at 4 p.m. (CDT) and 6:30 p.m. (CDT), while the regional championship game is scheduled for March 14 at 6 p.m. (CDT).

Eagles rally past Ashland to forge Day 2 split of TSG

University of Southern Indiana Softball rallied from a three-run deficit to earn a 5-4, nine-inning win over Midwest Region foe Ashland University Sunday evening. The win gave the No. 13 Screaming Eagles a split to the second day of The Spring Games after USI suffered a 1-0 setback to the University of Minnesota-Duluth in its opener.

USI continues The Spring Games Monday when it takes on Wilmington University (Delaware) at 5 p.m. (CST) as well as another Midwest Region foe in No. 7 Grand Valley State University at 7:30 p.m.

Minnesota-Duluth (4-5) 1, Southern Indiana (9-3) 0

Minnesota-Duluth got a walk-off single from outfielder Jayme Langbehn in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand USI a 1-0 setback in its first game of the day.

The Eagles, who left eight runners on base, stranded runners at second and third in both the second inning and the fourth inning. They also left a runner at second base in the fifth and seventh frames.

Sophomore pitcher Courtney Atkisson (Bringhurst, Indiana) was charged with the loss after giving up one run off seven hits. Atkisson (3-2) struck out three batters, but a lead-off walk in the seventh frame eventually turned into the winning run.

Junior first baseman Marleah Fossett (Brownsburg, Indiana) led the Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and a single. She also was hit by a pitch.

Southern Indiana: 5, Ashland (2-4): 4

USI rallied from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 5-4, nine-inning victory over Midwest Region foe Ashland.

After spotting Ashland (2-4) three runs in the top of the second inning, the Screaming Eagles slowly chipped away at the Ashland Eagles’ advantage.

The Screaming Eagles got an RBI-groundout from senior catcher Haley Hodges (Portage, Indiana) to get on the scoreboard in the last half of the third inning. Junior third baseman Mena Fulton (Bloomington, Indiana) hit an RBI-double in the fifth inning to cut Ashland’s lead to just one run, while senior shortstop Lexi Reese (Lebanon, Indiana) tied the contest at 3-3 with an RBI-single in the sixth inning.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Ashland retook a one-run lead as it used the international tie-breaker rule—the batter who made the last out in the previous inning is placed on second base to begin the extra innings—to build a 4-3 lead.

USI responded in the bottom of the eighth as sophomore utility player Caitlyn Bradley (Forest, Indiana) pushed the tying run across the plate with a single.

After the Screaming Eagles held Ashland off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning, USI got a sacrifice bunt off the bat of Reese to push USI’s international tie-breaker runner—freshman pitcher Jennifer Leonhardt (Louisville, Kentucky)—to third base.

Fossett followed with a one-out, walk-off single to push Leonhardt across the plate and give the Screaming Eagles the 5-4 victory.

Leonhardt (4-1) earned the win after giving up four runs, just one earned, off five hits in nine innings of work. She also had 11 strikeouts, while going 2-of-4 from at the plate with a double.

IS IT TRUE that Mole #4 tells the City-County Observer that newly installed leader of the Vanderburgh County Democrat Party Scott Danks is starting his new job off with a decisive move?… Danks formed a posse and taken all of the things owned by the Democrats out of the Kunzel Building commando style on a Sunday afternoon?…the fact remains that the Vanderburgh County Democrats are leaving while owing roughly three years of rent for space? …It’s obvious that Mr. Danks realized why use something you can’t afford or don’t need? …we would like to congratulate Chairmen Danks for doing what others only talked about?

IS IT TRUE many CCO readers feel that the EVSC recent golf course purchase is the ultimate slap in the face to taxpayers? …we wonder where was the public discussion on this initiative? … it’s been alleged that the property in question change ownership immediately prior to the EVSC purchase? … we wonder why are the people of this community are so willing to roll over for this kind of highly questionable backroom deals without challenging them publicly?  …we predict that this golf course shall soon be used as a facility for area high school golf practices and tournaments?

IS IT TRUE the Evansville Sports Corporation proudly announce a while back that they had attracted the Great Lakes Valley Conference Basketball Tournament to the Ford Center for 2017?…the tournament was played last week and to the surprise of no one who understands human nature, the attendance was not up to snuff? …one semifinal session with USI playing drew 929 attendees while the other only drew 401?…USI typically draws a larger crowd than that at the on-campus gymnasium?…it seems as though USI fans like the PAC Center better than the beautiful downtown $127 Million Ford Center?

IS IT TRUE that the championship games of the GLVC tournaments drew a whopping total of 809 people to the Ford Center on Sunday?…there were two championship games, one for men and one for women and only 7% of the seats in Ford Center were occupied?…the tickets when bought in the overall ticket package were less than $2 per game and still the crowd was paltry?…given the declarations of last month about how the UE Lady Aces drawing 500 fans is not sufficient for Ford Center to break even, we assume that the GLVC tournaments didn’t generate a profit for the Ford Center?

IS IT TRUE we wonder if the new downtown Doubletree Hotel draws a quorum of basketball fans to downtown Evansville for the GLVCC Tournament as predicted by the Evansville Sports Corporation?

IS IT TRUE that the Evansville Thunderbolts lost for the second night in a row to Pensacola Florida 4 to 0?  …Pensacola outshot Evansville 47-25 in handing the Thunderbolts their seventh consecutive loss overall? …their season record is now 11-29-5 which puts them solidly in 10th place out of 10 teams?
