IS IT TRUE at last nights City Council meeting Evansville City Councilman Justin Elpers  requested that someone from VenureWorks appear before Council on April 24, 20117 to explain and update them about the financial activities of the Evansville Thunderbolts and Ford Center?  …we commend Mr. Elpers for requesting this long overdue financial review and update of the Thunderbolts and the Ford Center?  …we wonder why City Council Finance Chairman Dan McGinn didn’t request to be done long ago?  ,,,,we can’t wait to find out if the Ford Center made an honorable profit or lost around $1 million to $1 1/2 million dollars this year (not in included in this projection is the annual $8 million bond note payment on the Ford Center)?  …we also look forward in hearing if the Thunderbolts lost any money during the home games and if so who are covering these losses?
IS IT TRUE that the inspection of the Soldiers and Sailors Coliseum in downtown Evansville was supposedly completed by a person who is trained to inspect houses?…while some things about a Coliseum and a house may be similar like wood and concrete, the structural issues and failure mechanisms are not so similar?…it looks like someone made a poor choice to hire a home inspector and paid him over $6,000 for him to do this task? Â …. that the President of the Vanderburgh County Commission has asked the Evansville/Vanderburgh Building Inspectors office to do a walk through inspection of the Soldiers and Sailors Coliseum? … this seems like the same approach taken by former Evansville Mayor Wienzapfel with the Roberts Stadium building in order to declare it unsafe for public events?
IS IT TRUE that it has often been said that “you can’t make a good deal with a bad personâ€?…this is particularly true when that person is a head of state that has no reason whatsoever to do one any favors?…now that the Trump Administration has pushed the button on an airstrike on a Syrian air base in retaliation for the Syrian government’s use of chemical weapons on its own people, people are questioning why this took so long for the United States to do?…President Obama did indeed draw a line in the sand and warn Bashir Assad that use of chemical weapons would result in American retaliation, but did nothing when Assad used the weapons?…former Secretary of State and 2004 democrat nominee for President John Kerry was quite proud of making a deal with the Russians and the Syrians to never use chemical weapons?…Kerry made deals with bad people so he should not be surprised that they didn’t do what they said they would?…we don’t know if the air strikes will change anything, but we do know that when you draw a line in the sand and do not follow through, the message received by your adversary is that you are weak and inconclusive?…it looks like those days are over for the United States for the time being?
IS IT TRUE we find it interesting that Senator Donnelly is trying to appease the GOP leadership by backing some of their nominees in order to convince them that he is nonpartisan?  …the real truth is that GOP leadership considers Senator Donnelly to be extremely vulnerable when re-election times comes around?  …Mr. Donnelly may also be  extremely venerable because his local field staff seemly lack the follow through needed to launch a successful re-election campaign on his behalf?

Â …whomever takes on Mr. Bucshon in the primary and/or in the general elections better have one hell of a campaign staff and a political war chest?

Solar Energy Bill Passes the Indiana Senate
A bill reducing reimbursement rates for rooftop solar uses passed in the General Assembly Monday. Senate Bill 309 was passed with a 37 to 11 vote.
Solar panel owners are currently paying utility companies more for the power they generate than they would pay their primary power generators.
Utility companies fear solar energy will eventually cut into their profits with its popularity.
The measure now goes to Governor Holcomb for a final decision.

A company that sued over Indiana’s unconstitutional vaping and e-cigarette licensing law will get an Indiana permit to manufacture e-liquids, and taxpayers will pick up the company’s legal fees for its trouble, a judge ordered Monday.
Judge Richard Young’s order was the latest defeat for a state law that a federal circuit court struck down and lawmakers this session scrambled to fix over concerns it created a virtual monopoly. The Indiana House last week passed a bill that would remove those provisions.
Young on Monday ruled portions of the law still on the books violate the dormant Commerce Clause, extending the 7th Circuit’s prior ruling to a separate case that challenged the law.
GoodCat LLC was among e-liquid makers shut out of doing business by Indiana’s restrictive law that limited participation in the market to a handful of companies. GoodCat sued and was granted summary judgment.
The state is barred from enforcing its vaping statute as applied to GoodCat, Young wrote. “The court also orders defendants to issue an e-liquid manufacturing permit to GoodCat forthwith.
“GoodCat shall file any petition for an award of attorneys’ fees … within 14 days of the date of this Order,†Young ruled in GoodCat’s suit against the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission and others.
Several other e-liquid makers who intervened in the suit attempted to moot the case, arguing that when the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Indiana’s vaping statute, the ruling entitled them, and GoodCat, to participate in the market. Young noted, though, that GoodCat had previously received only a preliminary injunction against the state, and that the ATC could potentially revoke GoodCat’s permit if a final order wasn’t issued in the case.

 The Shoulders Family Commons Lecture Series will present “From Obama to Trump: What Happened, Why & What does it Mean for Us,†a lecture by Author and Professor Marjorie Hershey. The lecture will take place on Sunday, April 23, at 2 p.m. in the Shoulders Family Commons at Harrison High School.
 Hershey is currently a professor of political science at Indiana University and specializes in the study of American political parties, campaigns and media coverage of elections. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin and a B.A. from the University of Michigan. She is the author of four books and several dozen articles for professional journals and book chapters. Her most recent publication, “The Elections of 2016,†was just released last month.
 As part of her curriculum at IU, Hershey teaches about political parties, interest groups, environmental policy and how to teach for her graduate students. She has received 16 teaching awards at IU and nationally.

Headed into storm season, Vectren is launching a new feature that allows customers to report their power outage by texting the word OUT to 83212. Customers can easily save this number to their phone contacts to ensure quick reporting by visiting www.vectren.com/text from a smartphone to access and save the contact information.
If the mobile phone number being used to report the outage is already associated with the customer’s account, it will prompt the user to choose the address on file or report for a different location. If the phone number is not recognized by Vectren, customers will be prompted to provide the phone number associated with the account in Vectren’s billing system, which is likely a landline phone number, or they can enter the property address or Vectren account number.
“Enhancing our customer’s experience by providing another option to report a power outage via smartphone was a top priority given the number of customers who own these devices and utilize them for similar tasks,†said Brad Ellsworth, president of Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana-South. “Outage texting makes reporting even easier and provides customers with an additional self-service option, so we are urging customers to ensure we have their mobile number on file for a more streamlined reporting processâ€
Customers who want to provide Vectren their mobile number to ensure its on file can do so by creating and/or logging in to their Vectren.com online account and selecting the My Profile tab, or they may use the Live Chat feature on Vectren.com.
In addition to the new text feature, customers can still report their power outages on a smartphone via Vectren’s website and mobile application. Customers are also encouraged to follow @VectrenStorm on Twitter for real-time outage updates.

Kayla Katterhenry wins at Indiana State

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – In her regular-season finale as a member of the University of Evansville women’s golf team, senior Kayla Katterhenry took top honors at the Indiana State Spring Invitational at the Country Club of Terre Haute on Monday.
Katterhenry shot a 2-under 70 in Monday’s final round to finish with a score of 145, four ahead of her nearest competition. The victory came in a competitive field that featured four other Missouri Valley Conference programs. It is also a nice finish to the spring regular season slate as the conference championship is up next from Sunday through next Tuesday.
Second on the squad was Maggie Camp. She made a nice jump from her opening round tally, improving by eight strokes. After notching an 82 on Sunday, Camp carded a 74 on Monday to tally a 156 for the event, tying for 13th.
Next up was Giulia Mallmann. Her final-round score of 85 gave her a score of 165, tying her for 43rd. Madison Chaney was two behind Mallmann, finishing with a 167. She carded an 86 in the last round. Maria Pickens saw a 5-stroke improvement in day two, posting an 84 on her way to a 173.
Lexie Sollmann posted a 2-round total of 162 as an individual, coming home in a tie for 33rd. Her rounds checked in at 82 and 80. Carly Waggoner was UE’s other individual, posting a 181.
Evansville took 6th place in the tournament with a tally of 631, just three behind 5th-place Drake. Indiana State took top team honors in a dominating way, registering a 286 in the last round. It was the only team score in either day to check in under a 307. They won by eight shots over Western Illinois.
