Purple Aces Club To Hold Cookout On April 29

On Saturday April 29, the Purple Aces Club will hold a free Ballpark Cookout in conjunction with the University of Evansville baseball and softball home games that day.

The cookout will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will feature hot dogs, brats, chips and soft drinks while supplies last.  It is free to fans wearing their Purple Aces gear and will take place between Braun Stadium and Cooper Stadium on the UE campus.

That day will see plenty of great Aces action with softball getting things started versus Illinois State.  Evansville faces the Redbirds in a doubleheader that begins at noon with game two starting at approximately 2 p.m.

Baseball will also be home as they take on Missouri State.  The Bears currently stand at 6-0, giving Aces fans the opportunity to see their squad face the best that the Missouri Valley Conference has to offer.

Tennis makes trip to Iowa to finish regular season Aces take on Drake and UNI this weekend

Regular-season play will finish up this weekend for the University of Evansville women’s tennis team as they make a trek to the state of Iowa to face Drake and UNI.

 

Play begins on Saturday as the Purple Aces take on the Bulldogs in Des Moines at 1 p.m. before the finish the weekend and the regular season on Sunday in Cedar Falls with a 10 a.m. match against UNI.

 

Last weekend, UE finished its home slate on a high notes, earning a 7-0 win over Missouri State.  Evansville got off to a nice start in doubles, taking all three match-ups to earn the first point of the day.  From there, the squad continued to win in singles as Chieko Yamada and Diana Tkachenko took flights 1 and 2, respectively.

 

Nicoli Pereira battled from an early hole to take an exciting win at #3 singles in three sets.  Flights 4-6 featured wins by Daria Pentsova, Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga and Andjela Brguljan each in two sets as the Aces won by the final of 7-0 on Brguljan’s Senior Day.

 

Drake sits at 10-8 overall and 2-3 in league play while the Panthers start the weekend with a 1-4 Valley mark, but are 8-8 on the season.

 

Hambrock named to women’s tennis All-GLVC team

University of Southern Indiana Women’s Tennis freshman Lauren Hambrock (Terre Haute, Indiana) has been named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team, the conference announced Thursday evening after a vote by the league’s head coaches. Hambrock is the first USI women’s tennis player to make the All-GLVC team since Michelle Girgenti in 2011.

Hambrock finished the season 10-14 in singles play, going 10-9 in dual matches. She split her time playing at number one, two and three singles, with her best mark of 7-4 at number one. She was 3-3 in GLVC matches.

In doubles, Hambrock was 14-10 overall. She went 13-6 at number two, playing primarily with senior Kymberly Brannon (Louisville, Kentucky), where they went 8-5, the best mark of any pair.

The Screaming Eagles finished the season 10-11 overall, 2-4 GLVC.

First Security Bank has hired three employees to grow its ability to better serve its clients in its credit and loan support teams.

Abby Bridges is a Credit Analyst with experience in accounting, finance and customer service. Bridges is currently attending the University of Southern Indiana, where she is will earn a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Accounting and Professional Services, as well as, a Bachelor of Science in Finance this May.

Lesha Molt joins as a Loan Processing Specialist, with experience in loan processing of new consumer, commercial and mortgage loans. Most recently with Field & Main Bank she spent the last several years as a Loan Operations Specialist reviewing consumer and commercial loans in compliance.  Molt completed Paralegal Studies at College of Lake County, IL and holds numerous Paralegal Certifications.

Janet Helfert comes to the bank as a Core System Management and Reporting Specialist, with more than 20 years’ experience in the banking industry. Throughout her banking career, Janet has gained experience in loan verification and maintenance, escrow analysis, flood and many other operational areas.

Shoulders Lecture Series Presents Marjorie Hershey

The Shoulders Family Commons Lecture Series will present “From Obama to Trump: What Happened, Why & What does it Mean for Us,” a lecture by Author and Professor Marjorie Hershey. The lecture will take place on Sunday, April 23, at 2 p.m. in the Shoulders Family Commons at Harrison High School.

 

Hershey is currently a professor of political science at Indiana University and specializes in the study of American political parties, campaigns and media coverage of elections. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin and a B.A. from the University of Michigan. She is the author of four books and several dozen articles for professional journals and book chapters. Her most recent publication, “The Elections of 2016,” was just released last month.

 

As part of her curriculum at IU, Hershey teaches about political parties, interest groups, environmental policy and how to teach for her graduate students. She has received 16 teaching awards at IU and nationally.

 

Barris named to men’s tennis All-GLVC team

University of Southern Indiana Men’s Tennis senior Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) was named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team Thursday night, in an announcement by the conference after a vote by the league’s head coaches.

Barris is 17-11 in singles play this year, including 13-6 at number four along with a pair of wins at number three. He went 3-2 in GLVC matches.

In doubles, Barris teamed up with junior Samuel Kiladejo (London, England), where they are an impressive 17-5, 3-0 GLVC. The duo, which is on a six-game winning streak, went 5-2 at number one and 12-3 at number two.

Barris, who is 21-8 overall in doubles and 5-0 in the GLVC, combined with sophomore James Hardiman (Backwell Bristol, United Kingdom) to break the school record with 18-straight doubes wins earlier in the season.

The Screaming Eagles finished the regular season 16-9, 4-2 GLVC, and will take on Rockhurst University in the GLVC Championship quarterfinals at the Washington University Tao Tennis Center Friday at noon in St. Louis, Missouri, pending changes due to weather.

UPDATE: The match Friday vs Rockhurst has been postponed until 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chesterfield Athletic Club due to weather.
