University of Southern Indiana Women’s Golf Concluded It’s Season Today

University of Southern Indiana Women’s Golf concluded it’s season Wednesday afternoon at the NCAA II East Super Regional at Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio. The Screaming Eagles placed ninth out of 12 teams.

Junior Taylor Howerton (Evansville, Indiana) narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA Championships as an individual, finishing just one stroke behind the final qualifier. In the third round, she shot a three-under 33 the first nine holes. However, she shot a five-over 41 on the second nine, but still finished with her best round of the regional by way of a two-over 74.

In round one, she shot a four-over 76 and added a five-over 77 in round two to finish tied for ninth with an 11-over 227.

Senior Kori Jacobsen (Bedford, Indiana) was the second highest placing Eagle, finishing tied for 40^thwith a 29-over 245 (88-75-82).

The Eagles were ninth after shooting a three-day total of 994. USI carded a 338 in round one before bouncing back with a 322 in round two. They wrapped up with a 334 on day three to finish 130 strokes over par.

The University of Southern Indiana Alumni Association will host its third annual USI Party on The Quad from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 10 on the University’s Quad, located in the center of campus. The event is open to USI alumni, employees, retirees, friends and USI students age 21 and older. Tickets are $10, which includes live music, activities and a commemorative beverage glass.

This year, guests will enjoy food available for purchase from Evansville food trucks – The Duffy Shuffle, Spuds ‘n’ Stuff, Chino Taco and Jeanne’s Gelato & More, along with a cash bar. Both vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available as well.

Activities include a selfie photo booth, caricature portraits, cornhole tournament, photo-ops with Archie and tours of campus. The Campus Store also will be open to stock up on USI logo wear. The event is rain or shine. In the case of rain, the event will be held at USI’s Physical Activities Center.

“Party on The Quad is one of the Association’s best opportunities to reconnect with each other and our university family including faculty and staff that alumni knew as students,” said Janet Johnson, director of Alumni and Volunteer Services. “Each year our alumni are amazed when they come back and see the wonderful changes to campus. Party on the Quad is sure to be a great time. “

Featured music this year will be Calabash, a rock/jam band from Evansville, and Quinn DeVeaux, a blues/soul singer from Nashville. Calabash will play from 6 to 7 p.m., and DeVeaux will play from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

University of Southern Indiana Women’s Tennis has signed Lauryn Thompson (Evansville, Indiana) to a national letter of intent for the 2017-18 season. Thompson joins early signee Anna McDonald, who signed with the Screaming Eagles in the fall.

Thompson is currently a senior at Reitz High School in Evansville, Indiana, where she played both volleyball and tennis. She also is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Key Club, and Teen Power.

On the tennis court, she was named Rookie of the Year in 2013, Academic All-City in 2016 and First-Team All-SIAC in 2015.

“Lauryn’s best tennis is definitely yet to come. After completing her high school volleyball career in the fall, her tennis has improved dramatically the last six months,” Head Coach Keely Porter said. “I know she will make an immediate impact on my team.  She is working on aggressive strategies, strength & conditioning, and hopefully gaining doubles experience over the summer.”

Porter also had this to say about McDonald: “Anna comes from a strong tennis family. She works with her dad, a former UE tennis player, and her triplet brothers, while living in Florida.  I am very happy she still has relatives near Evansville, making her move back to the Midwest more comfortable.

“Anna is highly disciplined and eager to improve,” Porter continued. “Her tennis should thrive with the support and encouragement of my returning players.  Anna’s kind, well-mannered nature will be a wonderful addition to our team environment.”
