Investigation under way following officer involved shooting near the entry to the Federal Courthouse

0

An investigation is underway after a man armed with a baseball bat was shot by law enforcement officers during an encounter with a Federal Court Security Officer and a uniformed Evansville Police Department Officer.
The incident began at 11:18am when a man approached the main entry to Federal Courthouse at 101 NW Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. The man was armed armed with a bat. The federal officer working the main entrance area recognized the man from an incident in the building on Monday. During the Monday incident, the man was escorted out of the building by federal authorities.
At this time, it is known that the man used the bat to break out multiple door windows at the main entrance to the building. The federal officer was injured by flying glass while trying to prevent the man from entering the building. As the incident continued, an Evansville Officer arrived to assist.
During the encounter, the man’s aggressive behavior escalated. Because he wa s still armed with the bat and acting aggressively towards them, an officer attempted to stop his actions by deploying a Controlled Electronic Weapon, commonly referred to as a TASER. The TASER deployment was ineffective and the man continued his aggression towards the officers.
Believing the man’s continued violent behavior posed an immediate threat of serious bodily injury or death, the officers discharged their firearms to protect themselves.
Investigators have spoken with several witnesses, but are asking anyone who may have seen any or all of the incident to call Evansville Police at 812-436-7979.
The name of the deceased will be released by the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office. The names of the officers will be released per departmental policies.

Local FOP Lodge Starting A Fund Raising Campaign To Help Members Of The Houston Police Department

0

At yesterdays FOP National Conference held in Nashville Tennessee delegates were told because many hurricane “Harvey” people stayed behind are now being rescued by Houston police department. According to local FOP President Chuck Knoll “Officer’s from the Houston Police Department have not eaten a warm meal in over 24 hours.”  He also added “that members of our local FOP are attempting to send food trucks to help the Houston Police Department to help take care of the officers basic needs because they have been overwhelmed with rescue efforts.”  About $10,000s dollars was raised on the FOP National Convention conference floor yesterday in order to help with the relief efforts for members of the Houston Police Department and surrounding agencies?

Members of the local FOP Lodge have starting a fund raising campaign to help members of the Houston Police Department to help take care of the officers basic needs?

Members of the Evansville Police Department who are spearheading the effort of gathering items to donate to the Houston police officers are: Police Chief Billy Bolin, FOP President, Chuck Knoll, Officers-John Montgomery, Lenny Reed, Sergent Mark Saltzman, Ryan Winters and Paul Jacobs. On Friday members of the EPD will head to Houston this weekend to hand out the collections to the Police Officers of the Houston area?.

If you would like to help please bring food and rescues supplies to the Evansville FOP Lodge, 801 Court Street, Evansville, Ind?  …any cash donations can also be taken to FOP at 801 Court street?

IS IT TRUE AUGUST 29, 2017

IS IT TRUE that the word in the street is that a close associate of Rick Davis is thinking about running for the chairmanship of the local Democrat party? … if elected to this position, Zachary Heronemus must have a strong Executive Committee to help him rebuild what is considered as a “crumbled mess” of a party? … that Zachary Heronemus saw first hand the Democrat Leadership back a Republican for Mayor instead of Mayoral candidate Rick Davis.  …we hear this Mr. Heronemus has many friends from all the factions within the local Democratic party? … If he can finds someone to help him raise big money for the party, he might just pull this off?

IS IT TRUE that Hurricane Harvey came ashore in Texas and dumped an incredibly large amount of rain on the Gulf Coast?…as much as 50 inches of rain fell in some places and in the megalopolis of Houston there are another 18 inches is expected in the next few days?…it is a good thing that Evansville is not on the Gulf Coast because that much rain would overload decrepit combined sewer system that has been under EPA mandate for a billion dollar upgrade would really turn havoc loose on the population?…all things considered, the low number of fatalities and missing people is testament to living in a developed place?…it could have been worse, but this storm is estimated to have caused $40B in damage? …the “First Responders” in the Houston area are doing one hell of a job in protecting the masses?

IS IT TRUE that Evansville is about to have its first hydroplane races since 2009?…the upcoming hydrofest is still charging only $10 each for a wrist band that is good for the entire weekend?…the cost to produce this event excluding any pay for volunteer workers is on the order of $400,000?…that means there is a need for about 40,000 people to buy the wristbands to assure that this event has a chance at being sustainable?…the City County Observer hopes to see the Hydrofest succeed and become an Evansville tradition so get out there and buy a ticket?
