EVSC Names New Athletic Director

The EVSC has named Andy Owen to serve as the director of athletics and physical activities. Owen was most recently athletic director at Central High School. Owen also is the head football coach at Central, a role he will continue throughout the 2017 season.

In his new role, Owen will oversee all athletics in the corporation as well as physical education. He also will oversee the integration of the district’s physical education curriculum within the EVSC’s GAIN framework. In addition, Owen will work with closely with the Office of Development on various fundraising initiatives and projects. His duties as district athletic director will commence at the conclusion of the Central High School football season. He will begin his other responsibilities immediately.

Owen, who graduated from Central High School, has a B.S. degree in K-12 physical education from the University of Indianapolis and an M.A. in teaching from Oakland City University.

Serving as head football coach since 2007, Owen has coached during the school’s longest regular season winning streak in school history and has won both a sectional and SIAC championship. He was named Region 9 Coach of the Week by the Indianapolis Colts four times and was named Coach of the Year by the University of Indianapolis. He also was elected to both the board of the Indiana Football Coaches Association and the Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, serving as director in both associations.

MVC Announces 2016-17 Academic Honors

Aces Well-Represented On The List

ST. LOUIS – Seventy-four student-athletes highlight more than 1,500 who earned selection to the 2016-17 Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll, as announced by the league office.  Those 74 student-athletes earned the league’s highest academic achievement by capturing the Missouri Valley Conference President’s Council Academic Excellence Award

The President’s Council Academic Excellence Award requires a minimum 3.8 cumulative grade point average (through Spring 2017 semester), participation in athletics a minimum of two years, and the student-athlete must be within 18 hours of graduation.  Also, hundreds of student-athletes received the league’s Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award, which requires a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for the previous two semesters, a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average, and participation in athletics.

In addition, the Missouri Valley Conference has announced its 2016-17 Honor Roll, which recognizes academic achievement of student-athletes.  To qualify for the Valley Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have recorded a minimum 3.2 grade point average for a specified term (Fall 2016/Spring 2017), must have been a member of an athletics team, and must have a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment during the fall or spring semesters.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is still accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff until Friday, July 21, 2017.

Preliminary applications for the 2017 – 2019 Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sheriff candidate pool are available online. Anyone meeting our hiring requirements and who is interested in a career as a deputy sheriff for the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is invited to complete a pre-application.

Applications must be completed, printed and returned to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office no later than Friday, July 21, 2017. All necessary information for prospective candidates is included with the downloadable pre-application package, which is available by clicking here.
