IS IT TRUE JULY 9, 2017
IS IT TRUE that the malaise of brick and mortar retail has gone to extreme levels in the past week?…the last K Mart in Owensboro was on the casualty list of the latest hit list of the Sears organization?…this is the second round of closings for the two legacy brands that helped define the shopping habits of Americans for 50 years in 2017?…anyone who thinks the brick and mortar retail carnage is over is kidding themselves as the online craze is really just getting started?
IS IT TRUE the large legacy New York City chain Macy’s is now selling on the stock market for less than one third of the appraised value of their free and clear real estate?…one would think that Macy’s stock would be a no brainer given that statistic?…the trouble with real estate is that banks will, loan against it and that is the biggest concern with buying Macy’s stock?…the management of Macy’s may not get it yet and could leverage the real estate with debt to hold on to a dying business?…if they mortgage their real estate to prop up brick and mortar retail they will squander the last vestige of value that the Macy’s brand has to offer?
IS IT TRUE that the former consumer electronics giant HH Gregg that operated a retail store on Evansville’s east side after Circuit City went under just announced they have sold all of their intellectual property?…that includes the name HH Gregg, all patents, brands, trademarks, slogans, advertising materials, and banners?…the total sale price was reported to be only $400,000 for everything of value that remains of a once mighty brand?…that is less than a medium sized family home in Lake Ridge Crossing in Newburgh and a fraction of some private homes in McCutcheonville?
IS IT TRUE the 20 most popular stores in America are: 20) Best Buy, 19) Rite Aid, 18) Dollar General, 17) United States Postal Service, 16) Dunkin Donuts, 15) 7 Eleven, 14) Lowe’s, 13) Wendy’s, 12) Shell Gas Stations, 11) The Home Depot, 10) Burger King, 9) Taco Bell, 8) Dollar Tree, 7) CVS PHARMACY, 6) Target, 5) Walgreens Pharmacy, 4) Starbucks Coffee, 3)Subway, 2) McDonalds and number one (1) Walmart?
IS IT TRUE the 5 restaurant chains that are taking over America are: 5) Click-Fil-A. 4) Wingstop. 3) Marco Pizza, 2) Jersey Mike’s Subs and number one (1) is Raising Cane’s chicken fingers?

2017 Cops Cycling for Survivors Bicycle Ride around Indiana
Monday, July 10, 2017, will mark the start of the 16th annual Cops Cycling for Survivors bicycle ride around Indiana. A departure ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. EDT at the Police and Fire Fighters Memorial on the capital grounds in downtown Indianapolis. The cyclists will depart shortly after comments by Governor Eric Holcomb and Howard County Sheriff, Steve Rogers. After the 9:00 a.m. departure from the memorial, the cyclists will head north to Kokomo where they will meet with Deputy Carl Koontz’s family, friends, and co-workers to honor and remember his ultimate sacrifice for Hoosiers on March 20, 2016. The cyclists’ journey will last 13 days and cover nearly 1,000 miles bicycling the perimeter of Indiana honoring fallen police officers and their families.
Cops Cycling for Survivors Foundation, Inc. annual bike ride consists of active and retired police officers, law enforcement survivors, law enforcement family members and friends of law enforcement riding their bicycles around the perimeter of Indiana to raise funds and awareness of the sacrifices made by Hoosier law enforcement families across Indiana. Funds raised from this event are used to perpetuate the memories of officers killed in the line-of-duty and to aid surviving family members and co-workers of officers killed in the line-of-duty. Previously raised funds have been directly donated to foundations, scholarships and camps that have been started in memory of fallen officers or by Indiana survivors in honor of their fallen heroes. In addition, Project Blue Light at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy has been supported.
The ride is scheduled to conclude the afternoon of Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Crown Hill Cemetery, Heroes of Public Safety Section. The closing ceremony will begin at 2:00pm EDT. Cops Cycling for Survivors President, Rich Crawford, will provide the closing message.  All are welcome to attend.
There will also be a stationary ride fundraising event on Monument Circle in front of Emmis Communication on Friday, July 7, 2017, from 7:00 am to 3:00pm.  Come out and meet some of the cyclists, sign the support truck, buy some Cycling for Survivors swag, donate, or just hang out.

Senior Day at the Fair
UNITY ON WEST FRANKLIN STREET
UNITY is an interactive public art project created by Vessence Corporation CEO, Nancy Bellmont, that examines how labels both help and hinder our ability to build unity as a nation and as a human race. Labels can create excuses for violence. Albion is bringing the global movement, UNITY, to Evansville to change the tone of our conversation to a renewed spirit of optimism, camaraderie, and respectfulness in order to prevent violence in our community.
Albion is hosting the 1st UNITY on Franklin on July 22, 2017 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Franklin Street Bazaar to unite our community, to celebrate our uniqueness, and to strengthen our ties to each other. UNITY is a circular arrangement of 32 poles in a large field. Each pole is labeled with an identifier. Participants tie yarn to each pole with which they identify. A canopy of interconnectedness forms as more people participate. In the end, participants see that they are all connected by something. Participants of all ages will have the opportunity to tie colorful yarn to posts that reflect their identities. As a result, their yarn intertwines with others’ to create a web of interconnectedness. For more information about UNITY Project, visit www.unityproject.net.
