Jaylon Brown Ready For Professional Career

Aces great signs contract to play in Macedoni

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – In his four years with the University of Evansville men’s basketball, Jaylon Brown improved each and every season.  He became the first player in Missouri Valley Conference history to be named to the league’s Most Improved Team on two occasions and the excellence that he displayed while at UE will now be taken to the next level as Brown has signed a professional contract with KK Karpos Sokoli in Skopje, Macedonia.

“It is exciting to take my game to the next level,” Brown said.  “I am excited to visit a new country and have the chance to play in the top league in Macedonia.”

His team plays in the Macedonian First League and advanced to the championship series for the first time in 2017, losing to 6-time defending champion MZT Skopje Aerodrom by a 3-2 margin in the 5-game series. His team was established in 1996 and made a large stride last season by being promoted to the ABA League (Adriatic League) last year.

“It means a lot to play professionally and shows that hard work will pay off,” he said.  “It is a good opportunity to play pro and take on the best players in Europe.”

Brown will leave the United States in the middle of August to start preseason preparations for his new squad before starting the season in late September.  Play can run into May depending on how the playoffs shape up for his squad.  He is hoping to return to the USA over the Christmas break.

Throughout his basketball career, Brown has enjoyed great support from his father and family.  They made the trip to the majority of Brown’s games through his college career and they look to continue their support.

“My dad is definitely going to fly out a few times and stay for as long as he can.  Others in my family will also be traveling to Europe when they have a chance.”

Since wrapping up his career with the Purple Aces in March, Brown has been hard at work finishing up his academics at UE on his way to graduation while also staying in shape with a trainer near his home in the Indianapolis area.

As he prepares for the next step in his career, JB reflected on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

“Not being in the same state or country as my family will definitely be a challenge, but that is what college is for.  It gets you used to being away from your family; it will not be too big of an adjustment, but will definitely be different not being able to drive home,” Brown explained.

“On the other side, I am looking forward to being in a new surrounding and understanding a new culture.  The time difference there may throw me off a little bit, but I will get used to it.  I am good at adapting!”

Bitzy is a 7-year-old male black cat! Does he look familiar? It’s because he’s been in the paper several times and is still waiting on a home! He is affectionate and enjoys the company of people. He also plays nice with the 39 other cats who live with him in the Cageless Cat Lounge! Bitzy came to the VHS front-declawed, which makes him an ideal pet for someone who lives in a strict apartment complex, who is elderly, or who may have autoimmune issues. He’s neutered & vaccinated, ready to go home today for $30! Contact the Vanderburgh Humane Society at (812) 426-2563 or adoptions@vhslifesaver.org for details!

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Indiana University alum Cody Miller placed fifth overall in the men’s 100 breaststroke on Monday at the 2017 FINA Swimming World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Miller, the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics bronze medalist in the event, just missed out on a podium finish on Monday, touching the wall in a time of 59.11 – 0.06 seconds behind bronze medalist Kirill Prigoda of Russia.

In the women’s 200 breaststroke, reigning gold medalist from the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics Lilly King will be the No. 2 seed for Tuesday’s championship final after touching the wall with a personal-best and IU school record time of 1:04.53.

With her time, King just missed the American record (1:04.45), became the second-fastest American and the fourth-fastest performer in the event all-time.

In the men’s 200 freestyle, IU’s Blake Pieroni, fresh off winning a gold medal with Team USA on Sunday in the 4x100m freestyle relay, placed 13th in the world in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.08.

IU alum Marwan Elkamash placed 16th overall in the event with a time of 1:47.41. Earlier in prelims, Elkamash set the Egyptian record with his mark of 1:47.40. Elkamash also set the Egyptian record in the 400 freestyle on Sunday, placing ninth with a time of 3:46.36.

Reps. Bacon, Sullivan Respond To INSPECT Announcement At Deaconess

0

Below are statements from State Reps. Ron Bacon (R-Chandler) and Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville) on the integration of the INSPECT program at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

“I am glad to see Deaconess upgrading to the INSPECT system to more easily keep track of the health and wellness of its patients,” said State Rep. Ron Bacon (R-Chandler). “This year, I sponsored a new law expanding access and compliance with the use of INSPECT and allowing for more helpful information to be included on INSPECT reports. Doctors need to know what prescriptions their patients are taking and the dosage in real time in order to properly treat them. INSPECT will provide physicians with this information to help keep Hoosiers healthy while also tracking prescription drug intake.”

“The INSPECT program will give doctors data to help them provide the best care possible for their patients by monitoring their opioid prescriptions,” said State Rep. Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville). “I am encouraged to see staff at Deaconess working with us to curb prescription drug abuse. Together we can help curb the opioid epidemic facing our state and keep Hoosiers healthy.”
