The Real Scandal

Obama “Colluded” with Russians:

The Real Scandal

By Richard Moss MD

We have heard unceasingly of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign as the Democrats seek to undermine the President and create a perpetual cloud over his presidency.  It is unfortunate that Democrat snowflakes, the media (I repeat myself), and the left in general, have not yet come to grips with their unexpected election loss.  Lacking any evidence to support their absurd contention despite an ongoing investigation of nearly a year, they ignore the far greater concern of the police state tactics of the Obama administration against political enemies including President Trump and his administration.  The unmasking of American citizens, the dispersal of that information throughout the government and the leaking of that material to the media and Democrat House and Senate members is felonious at several levels and disruptive of government function.

Indeed the Obama administration has a long track record of illicit surveillance and intimidation of the media including against James Rosen, Cheryl Atkinson, and the Associated Press, and against organizations such as Tea Party groups, Jewish and non-Jewish bodies opposed to the Iran Nuclear Deal, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli Ambassador, to name a few.  When it came to “meddling” in elections, Russia has nothing on Obama and his operatives who intervened in elections in Israel, the Ukraine, Macedonia, and elsewhere.

But it is the matter of collusion that appeals to the media and Democrats, our Reds (the Democrats) suddenly obsessed with the nefarious Russians (the old Reds), whom they previously worshipped and defended, Reds helping Reds, ideologic twins, sharing, as they do, a common Marxist DNA.  If it is Russian “collusion” that interests Democrats today, they are wasting time going after Trump.  They need look no further than the prior Democrat administration under Barack Obama for reams of evidence that suggest “collusion.”

We begin, for example, with the infamous “Reset” gaffe of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding US-Russian relations.  Obama scrapped plans to deploy missile defense shields to NATO allies Poland and Czechoslovakia, a gift to Putin.  When Russia annexed Crimea, an independent state, in defiance of international law, Obama made not a peep.  Russia invaded and effectively annexed eastern Ukraine, also in defiance of international law and the Budapest Memorandum signed by the US and others in 1994. Obama’s response was to send blankets and tents to Ukrainian defenders. Nor can we forget the hot mic fiasco in 2012 when Obama told Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to assure Vladimir Putin that after his election “I would have more flexibility.”  Obama also handed the Middle East to Russia on a silver platter making Russia the dominant world power in the region, a position we fought for and held for decades.  Russia, under Obama, acquired and vastly expanded a major naval base on the Mediterranean in Syria, now rivaling our presence in the region.  Obama aided Iran with his nuclear deal, releasing $150 billion to the leading state sponsor of terrorism, and a key Russian ally.  He also delivered Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon over to Iran, again augmenting Russia’s position in the Middle East.  Former President Clinton received $500,000 for a speech by a Russian corporation, while his wife Hillary was Secretary of State under Obama.  The Clinton Foundation received more than a $100 million in contributions from Russia while Hillary approved the sale of 20% of US uranium stores.  The “evidence” of alleged Trump collusion pales in comparison with the Obama record.

The media/Democrat party Soviet-style witch-hunt against Trump over collusion with Russia is soaked in irony on multiple levels, all of them, needless to say, lost on its perpetrators.  The whole notion that Trump or surrogates would seek Russian assistance in defeating Hillary is ridiculous on its face.  Surely after nearly a year of investigation any evidence in support of the mindless allegation would have been unearthed and eagerly reported.  None has been forthcoming.  Rather, we have a farcical scheme concocted by the hysterical left to destroy the Trump Presidency, a silent coup.

There is far more circumstantial evidence to implicate the Obama administration of colluding with Russia than the non-existent complicity of Trump.  This is the real conspiracy that cries out for investigation.  The other piece of the looming scandal is that while Russia and others did meddle in our election, which no one doubts, only not through the Trump campaign, but through hacking and other ways at the state and federal level and through the Democrat National Committee, Obama and his team did nothing.  Why?  They expected Hillary to win and wanted nothing to tarnish her victory.  They also like the Reds (Russians) and always have.  So, they willingly allowed it.  This is the scandal that demands a full inquiry replete with witnesses, hearings, the FBI and special counsel – not the empty Communist show trail against Trump.

Profile Of Patrick A. Shoulders Candidate For IU Alumni Trustee

It has been my honor to serve as your alumni Trustee for many years. We have accomplished much together, but much remains to be done as we plan for IU’s 200th Anniversary in 2019-2020.

As a member of the last generation to remember the living Herman Wells (his final letter to me hangs in my office), I am forever guided by his vision: We must strive for excellence in ALL that we do and provide a world class education to deserving students from Indiana (first) and those qualified for admission.

We have preserved our great traditions by revitalizing the Old Crescent. Likewise, we have kept an IU education cutting edge, with International Studies Programs, Informatics initiatives and new Engineering and Architecture Degrees.

I will remain a strong and independent voice on the Board. Believing in maintaining the beauty of our campuses, I fought off privatization of our parking facilities. Sadly, I was unable to convince the Board that we should not turn our back on the Ft. Wayne campus – I don’t win them all! But I am proud that the Bloomington paper has written that I have sounded like “the conscience of the University.”

If you give me your vote, I will continue working to ensure that IU is accountable, affordable and accessible. We have the lowest average net cost in the Big Ten. Gift aid has increased 83% since 2007. I will always insist that we recruit qualified under-represented minority students, that we concentrate efforts on retention and persistence towards degree completion, and that we pay faculty and staff competitively. Each campus is critical to our role as Indiana’s University.

A few years back, President McRobbie announced the establishment of a New Academic Directions Committee. The President charged the committee with strengthening IU’s academic core. As Chair of the Board’s Academic Affairs Committee for many years, I have been honored to work at the Board level with our Provost and other administrators toward the President’s charge: “To improve the overall quality of academic offerings, the efficiency with which we educate our students, and our responsiveness to the trends and challenges that are transforming higher education today.”

The diligent work of our Board, Administration and Faculty has led to many major accomplishments.

We have overseen and approved the creation of new schools that will ensure that IU’s education and research programs will flourish for decades to come. Some highlights of this transformative work include:

  • Creation of the nation’s first school of philanthropy – the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI.
  • Creation of the School of Global and International Studies at IU Bloomington, bringing together our more than 70 language programs and renowned international area studies centers.
  • Creation of the School of Informatics and Computing which merged informatics and library and information science offering an extensive range of programs in information technology.
  • Creation of the Media School at IU Bloomington which merged our excellence in journalism and telecommunications providing our students a pre-eminent national center for education and research on modern media.
  • Creation of Schools of Public Health at IUB and IUPUI which promotes health and supports disease prevention for all of Indiana.
  • Creation of an Engineering Program at IUB making IU a part of the “building and machine” culture.
  • Creation of a new School of Art and Design with a Masters of Architecture Degree.

As we approach IU’s 200th anniversary, I hope you will allow me to continue more than 30 years of work toward her success. My wife Lisa and I also understand the importance of our friends and alumni’s financial support of IU and are life members of our Alumni Association as well as proud members of the President’s Circle and the Hoosier Hundred.

If re-elected, I will continue to be your independent voice on the Board. I will also work to find additional support for our outstanding faculty and staff whose work brings IU national recognition and honor almost daily and who remain vital to the educational and economic aspirations of every Indiana region.

I have worked hard for each of our campuses and am proud to have received IUPUI’s Hine Medal and IU Southeast’s Chancellor’s Medallion for my efforts. Our dream of an IU campus in southwest Indiana is also becoming a reality with the construction of a medical education building in downtown Evansville.

With your help, my family of IU graduates (Lisa, BA ’75, daughter and son-in-law Samantha and David, BA ’00, son Andy, BA ’04) and I will continue working hard AT LEAST until our triplet granddaughters become members of the Class of ’28!

Dr. Bucshon’s Statement on Anthem, MDwise Exiting Obamacare Exchange

2
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) –  Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. released the following statement regarding announcements made by Anthem and MDwise that the insurers plan to exit the 2018 Obamacare exchange in Indiana:

“Obamacare is in a death spiral. Across the country, the exchanges are collapsing around the country leaving patients without affordable health care options – if they have options at all,”said Bucshon. “In Indiana, premiums have skyrocketed an average of 74 percent and now some patients won’t have access to a single insurer on the exchanges in 2018. It’s clear that without action, Obamacare will continue to implode, putting even more Americans at risk until the exchanges collapse entirely.  We can’t delay taking action any longer. We have to get our bill that repeals and replaces this failed law to President Trump to rescue Americans who have nowhere to turn.”

With the departure of Anthem and MDwise, patients in 60 of Indiana’s 92 counties will have access to only one insurer on the Obamacare exchange. In the Eighth Congressional District, two counties (Warrick and Posey) will be left with no options at all.

Court Impermissibly Entered Convictions On 3 Resisting Law Enforcement Counts

Court Impermissibly Entered Convictions On 3 Resisting Law Enforcement

 by Counts Covington for www.theindianalawyer.com

An Indiana trial court should not have entered convictions against a man on three counts of resisting law enforcement stemming from a single incident, the Indiana Court of Appeals ruled in a Wednesday opinion instructing the trial court to change the man’s convictions and resentence him accordingly.

In February 2016, Brian Paquette, who was high on methamphetamine at the time, drove northbound in the southbound lanes of I-69 near Petersburg, crossed the median when police officers tried to stop him, and collided with two vehicles holding a total of four passengers. Three of the passengers died, while the fourth was seriously injured.

Paquette was charged with three crimes relating to each of his three victims who died: Level 3 felony resisting law enforcement by fleeing in a vehicle causing death, Level 4 felony operating a vehicle with meth in his blood causing death and Level 5 felony reckless homicide. Additionally, he was charged with Level 6 felony operating a vehicle with meth in his blood causing serious bodily injury and Level 6 felony possession of meth.

Paquette agreed to plead guilty as charged, but reserved the right to ask the court to enter only one conviction and sentence on the charge of resisting law enforcement because he engaged in only one act of resisting. The court ultimately entered convictions on all three counts of resisting law enforcement, as well as his Level 6 felony conviction of operating a vehicle with meth in his blood causing serious bodily injury. The remaining counts were merged into those four counts, and Paquette was sentenced to an aggregate of 50 ½ years.

Paquette appealed in Brian L. Paquette v. State of Indiana, 63A04-1612-CR-2891, arguing Indiana Code 35-44.1-3-1 allows only one conviction of resisting law enforcement under the facts of his case. The Indiana Court of Appeals agreed, with Chief Judge Nancy Vaidik writing Wednesday that in the case of Armstead v. State, 549 N.E.2d 400 (Ind. Ct. App. 1990), the appellate court held “unless more than one incident occurs, there may be only one charge” of resisting law enforcement.

The court has reached the same conclusion in numerous cases since Armstead, Vaidik said. Though the Legislature has amended the state’s operating-while-intoxicated and arson statutes to allow for multiple convictions where the defendant caused multiple death or injuries, the General Assembly “has thus far decided not to add such a provision to the resisting statute.”

Paquette acknowledged that two of the three convictions and sentences for resisting can be replaced by two convictions and sentences for operating a vehicle with meth in his blood causing death as a Level 4 felony as to two the victims, and that is what the appellate court ordered the trial court to enter on remand. The COA also ordered Paquette to be sentenced accordingly.

Judge L. Mark Bailey concurred in result without a separate opinion.

UE Men’s Basketball Signs Dainius Chatkevicius

Native Of Lithuania Played At Vincennes

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Another native of Lithuania has joined the University of Evansville men’s basketball program as Purple Aces head coach Marty Simmons has announced the signing of Dainius Chatkevicius to a Grant-in-aid to begin playing at UE this season.

“Dainius is a big, athletic forward that we are excited to add to our team,” Simmons said.  “He is a strong, physical player who will give us some good depth inside.”

Chatkevicius, a 6-8 forward from Klaipeda, Lithuania, spent the last two seasons playing at Vincennes University.  In two years, he helped the Trailblazers to a 58-11 record, including a 32-3 mark last season.

A force on the boards, Chatkevicius set his career mark with 13 caroms in a win over John A. Logan on February 13 of this year.  Vincennes advanced to the final eight in the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, falling by just two points in the quarterfinals to South Plains.

Prior to his time at Vincennes, Chatkevicius played at the prestigious West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Florida.
