The American Sewing Guild Meeting
The American Sewing Guild will meet Tuesday October 24 at Bernina of Evansville, 4844 Plaza East Blvd. Please note this is a change of location for our regular Chapter meeting.  The door will open at 5:00 p,m. Bernina will provide a light supper before the meeting.
The program, conducted by Joann Bunys will share ideas for making Christmas items for gifts.
We would also like to help our swing friends that have been devastated by hurricanes this summer.  If you can, bring notions such as seam rippers, tape measures, needles, marking pens etc. and we will send them to the Houston chapter for their Sewing Shower.

Eb is a 6-month-old male kitten. He is very sweet and tolerant of Halloween costumes! J He has a sister available named Lisa. They have been at VHS since they were very young and deserve a loving home as they grow up. Ivy Tech to Host Go Ivy Day
Evansville, Ind.-Go Ivy Day is planned at Ivy Tech Community College for individuals interested in learning more about Ivy Tech and becoming a student. The free event is planned for Wednesday, October 27, from 9 a.m -1 p.m., at Ivy Tech Community College, 3501 First Avenue.
At the event students will have the opportunity to:
- Learn more about admissions requirements
- Explore campus
- Meet with faculty from your academic area of interest
- Get the facts on financial aid
- Connect with current and other prospective students.

EVSC Schedules 5K Run & Walk
To help promote the health and well-being of our students, families and staff, the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation is once again hosting its very own 5K Run & Walk, scheduled for Sunday, October 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Central High School.
The event will include a 5K Run & Walk around Central High School, a 1-Mile Walk and a Kids’ Dash for children 5 and under. The event serves as a fundraiser for EVSC schools with the proceeds divided among each EVSC high school district. The district with the highest percentage of participants will receive a larger portion of the proceeds.
The cost for the 5K and the 1-Mile Walk is $25 for adults and $10 for students. The price includes a T-shirt, while supplies last. The Kids’ Dash is free and includes a complimentary T-shirt.

DUI Checkpoint this Weekend
- The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership will conduct a sobriety checkpoint this Friday, October 20, 2017 from 11:00 pm until 2:00 am.
Law enforcement officers from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and the Evansville Police Department will join together to conduct this checkpoint. The location for Friday’s checkpoint was chosen based on local traffic collision data. Analysis of data captured in October of 2016 indicated that several geographical areas within Vanderburgh County accounted for a disproportionately high number of reported hit and run crashes. The upcoming checkpoint will be located within one of those areas. Hit and run crashes are often the result of impaired drivers who try to avoid arrest by fleeing the scene.
The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Traffic Safety Partnership conducts sobriety checkpoints in an effort to detect and deter impaired drivers (thereby reducing the occurrence of alcohol and drug related traffic crashes). Funding for local sobriety checkpoint operations is provided by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) through a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
